If it smells fishy, and it looks fishy, and it tastes fishy, and it feels fishy and scaly and slimy, then the chances are REALLY, REALLY good that it's a rotten fish you're eating.

The fish monger can keep telling you how it's a delicious piece of salmon, 100% approved by the FDA no less. But that doesn't change the fact that it's fishy.

All BB had to do was announce the hiring but then say that Joshy would be watching the Denver game from home.

AND: I predict that there will be a new rule in a year or two preventing this kind of post-season hiring. It'll be called "The McDaniels Rule".

I bet you smelled like fish at birth.... Sounds like you know a lot about rotten fish...didn't your mom feed you right?

Go home and cry into a Bronco's towel...

Tebow to Thomas looked pretty good Sunday night.

Yes, they did.

But that doesn't change the fact that the path to Tebow Street and Thomas Avenue was littered with countless bodies in the gutter: Cutler, Marshall, Hillis, and Scheffler among many others.

Or, as an homage to history they can call it the "Shanahan Rule".

Our current OC is a little distracted at the moment. Josh was going to help out regardless of who we were playing, which was planned before you won on Sunday night (you know, after he had already agreed to a multi-year deal).

I suppose you think your coach has an impaired sense of smell?

New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston
Denver coach John Fox, though, doesn’t seemed worried that McDaniels, who was hired by the Pats away from his post as offensive coordinator with St. Louis after the Rams fired head coach Steve Spagnuolo following the regular-season finale, will be able to provide New England with any Broncos secrets.

“We change players and coaches a lot in this league. I think this is a lot about nothing,” said Fox during Tuesday’s conference call with the New England media.

Fox, who took over the reins in Denver this year, elaborated a little on his comments.

“I know Josh a little bit. It’s always better to be employed as coaches than unemployed. He doesn’t even know our offense. Our offense is completely different,” said Fox.

First trip to the playoffs in six years and you guys are still complaining? To most of us it now looks like you gave up on Josh too quickly.

The Chiefs sent a request to the Rams asking to talk with him. Do you have any other nonsensical theories you'd like smashed in about 3 seconds?

I have a feeling they did this just to keep Cassel happy. Lots of times teams interview candidate they have no intention of hiring. I'm thinking in particular of the so-called Rooney Rule.

For all I know, the NFL has a new rule that teams need to interview self-inflated dictators as well...but I could be wrong.

Mods, is this just a really pathetic troll, or is this a dupe trying to string us along?

In all seriousness, he would probably *still* be our HC if not for the secondary video taping scandal after he became Denver's Commander In Chief.

Word on the street is that Bowlen was prepared to stick with McDumbDumb until the 2nd video taping scandal story broke. At that point, Bowlen had no choice but to fire him.

Frankly, most Bronco fans would like to take the camera guy (aka "fall guy") out to a nice steak dinner at one of Elway's restaurants.

I'm not trolling. I'm just making the argument that teams interview lots of candidates for open coaching position, but the reality is that out of 10 potential candidates, the short list of guys with a real shot at getting the job is quite small.

You're making an automatic assumption that McD would have been a serious candidate. Based on what? His 1.5 years in Denver? His year in St. Louis during which Bradford clearly regressed?

No, you're definitely trolling. You suck at it, but you're trolling. The only question is whether you're a legitimate troll or a mult here that's just yanking our chain.

Seriously, man: did you expect me to have an opinion other than the one I've been defending WRT the fishy re-hiring of Joshy?

Go to the Denver forums, and almost to a man everyone thinks that it was yet another sneaky move by BB.

And please define "legitimate troll" as opposed to, I guess, an "illegitimate troll"...

You're looking for a story that doesn't exist. The Patriots interviewed and agreed to hire McD when it was considered very unlikely the Patriots would be facing the Broncos (certainly less than 20%) as both Houston and Denver would have to win (and Denver was a serious underdog). As was already pointed out, KC with their new coach Romeo Crennel (a former Patriots defensive coordinator) had also asked to talk to McD (a former Patriots offensive coordinator) so clearly decisions needed to be made quickly by any team wanting to hire McD.

All that being said, there still would have been absolutely nothing wrong for the Patriots to hire McD as their ongoing OC (since BOB is leaving) if they knew they were facing Denver. The Patriots are one of the few teams that almost always promote from within and groom people for their jobs; the opportunity to replace BOB with a former Patriot OC who left on very good terms was a great opportunity for both the Patriots and McD.

There's NO WAY Josh "QB Killer" McD would have received any offers from KC, Atlanta, or even the Barcelona Barnstormers.

The *ONLY* team he had any chance with was New England. As a talent evaluator and a coordinator, he's in his element. Even McStalin haters in Denver know that.

But put him in a position of real power, and the guy went nuts and imploded a competitive franchise is less than 2 years...in fact, he did it all in the pre-season leading up to his first year!

Scott Pioli is the General Manager for the Chiefs, and was with New England when McDaniels was here. Thomas Dimitroff is the General Manager for the Falcons, and was with New England when McDaniels was here. When McDaniels was in New England he was the offensive coordinator of a team that set several NFL records, including points scored. The idea that those two would not even consider hiring McDaniels is completely off base.

I am fully aware that Broncos fans don't care one bit for McDaniels, but it seems to be clouding your opinions - and you're also rewriting history a little bit. If McDaniels ruined the franchise in his first preseason, then how do you explain the Broncos starting the year with a 6-0 record?

Lastly, stop and consider how many head coaches and coordinators there are in the NFL at any given point in time who were previously fired by another team. The notion that if a coach is fired from one job then nobody else in the league will consider hiring him is absurdly untrue; the NFL is absolutely overrun with coaching retreads.

Broncos fans and media really make me laugh. Until about 7:30 p.m. on Sunday Josh McDaniels was the biggest incompetent they had ever seen (no credit to him for drafting the two guys who won the game for them on Sunday). A cheating lowlife who had no idea what he was doing that ruined their team and had to be run out of town after only two years.

At 7:31 p.m. he became a sneaky move by Bill Belichick designed to "cheat" and beat them in the playoffs. The second coming, right after their own Savior. Nice way to explain why you lost before you even take the field.

I hope you know how dumb you sound.

1 - If you want to make sure your HC doesn't end up on the coaching staff of a team you're playing in the playoffs don't fire him. Otherwise you're taking his chances - there's no reason he should have to turn down a job in a situation he prefers just because you don't like it. You're his ex-goddamn employer for Christ's sake.

2 - I might see the stuff about how this is 'sketchy' if he was being hired as some BS staff position that was just a transparent ploy to get him on board temporarily. But we're losing our OC and he is taking over as OC next year and possibly becoming our HC. Nobody did this because of the Broncos - hell I think when they hired him it was expected we'd be playing the Steelers.

3 - The whole 'advantage' here is blown way out of proportion. It's been a year + now, players grow and change and pick up new habits and shed old ones.

It's a stupid 'scandal'.

fishy re-hiring of Joshy?

By fishy you mean within the league rules and agreed before Denver won this weekend, right?

Was it fishy when Denver re-hired Shanahan or when Dallas hired a sacked Dolphins coordinator?

If McDaniels ruined the franchise in his first preseason, then how do you explain the Broncos starting the year with a 6-0 record?

My explanation for this is simple: after an eternity under Mike Shannyham, the team experienced a kind of rebound effect that had more to do with Shanny leaving than with McD arriving.

We see this all the time when very sick patients start taking mega-doses of antibiotics. There's an initial rebound effect, and after a few days, the sick patient starts thinking "Holy cow! I feel great!" But in reality, the patient is still sick.

This is the danger time, because if he stops taking his penicillin, he's screwed. That's why most penicillin regimens last for 10 to 14 days.

I think that after 67 years under Shannyham, the Broncos would have rebounded under just about anyone. Most Bronco fans look at what happened after the Honeymoon Rebound ended and the Broncos went 2-8 to finish out the season.

Okay, I can accept that.

However, I'll stand by my other response to your comment that nobody in the NFL, including Kansas City and Atlanta, would even consider hiring McDaniels. That's just taking your dislike of McDaniels to a level where your opinion loses validity in my opinion.

Fair enough. And you're right.

But with Denver fans and Josh "Stalin" McStalin, it's all about irrational emotions, and it will always be that way.

A wise man once said: "You can't reason with unreasonable people." He was right.
