Personally I think Andy Samberg and Kristen Wiig are as talented as any others they've ever had on SNL, but much of the rest of the cast is nowhere near as strong as these two. Seth Myers was never funny until he skewered Donald Trump, and maybe only one or two of the others has had a funny moment.

The complaints that SNL has gone downhill have been going strong since 1976. ("That Bill Murray guy is okay, but it's just not the same since Chevy Chase left.")

The reality is that the show has always gone in waves. They hit paydirt with one cast, those folks take off for Hollywood, the show founders for a year or two, then they find their next round of Eddie Murrays/Adam Sandlers/Will Farrells.

No cast has ever matched the NRFPTP for humor level and consistency. The show had a rebound in the 80's and a much smaller rebound in the 90's, but it's largely been garbage since the original cast left. Having a funny person or two is not the same as having a solid, funny cast that can put together consistently solid sketches.

True enough, and some of those performers like Jane Curtin are underappreciated. But even those early years of Land Sharks and Gidget's Disease, if you watch a full episode beginning to end, complete with ads and musical guests, don't live up to...themselves.

EDIT: And some of the sketches that were huge at the time, like Chevy Chase as Gerald Ford, don't stand up well at all.

Well of course not, he was falling down on purpose to parody Ford's clumsiness.

No offense to Deus... but you will never get a viewpoint from him that doesn't include how much better things were when he was younger.

They still have funny sketches?

Sometimes I think laugh tracks are used on that show because there is rarely a skit that makes me laugh....not since Farley and Sandler left has it been even remotely funny.

That's why I only DVR it if I think the host might be good. Then I can skip over all the nonsesnse. Personally I never liked Sandler and I'd say the cast has been talentless since Will Ferrell And Jimmy Fallon left. I never watch "Weekend Update". The guy who they have hosting it now is as talentless as they get. Much like CC's Daily Show it's mostly used just to push a left wing agenda anyway.

Last good part/episode of SNL I saw is the one where Natalie Portman did her gangsta rap. The rest of that show has been a mess, all they do is tell ridiculous, unfunny and inappropiate jokes about people's private parts, which equals to GARBAGE, sorta like these new comedies that's been coming out at the movie theaters these days.
