Think Turnovers Matter?

Check out this juicy tidbit from Mike Silver's column this morning praising Brady -

When the Pats have fewer turnovers than their opponents since Brady took over as the starter in 2001, they are 101-4.

Wow. Is it really that easy?

And strangely enough, one of those 4 losses came this yr in this Pittsburgh game.

IIRC, the only turnover all day between either team was Guyton's pick of Roethlisberger inside the PIT 20 yard line. That set up the inital TD to Branch that cut the score to 10-7 and kept them in it after a horrible first quarter.

No one else had any TO's in the game, if I remember correctly.

I agree UNLESS a safety counts as a turnover. I don't believe it does. If you recall Paulamalu punched the ball through the back of the endzone in the game's final minute.

Hmmmm, I can't recall what the other losses would be.

Certainly a team that will capitalize on other teams' mistakes. Wonder what the Pats record is in that time when it's the other way around, when the Patriots have more turnovers than their opponents? I'd bet the Patriots are a bit more resilient.

According to PFR, it's 24-30 when the Pats lose the TO battle.

But to put it in perspective, over the same 11-year span, the JEST are 14-50. :singing:

2002 @ Broncos lost 24-16. Won turnover battle 2-0.
2009 @ Broncos lost 20-17. Won turnover battle 2-1.
2011 @ Steelers lost 25-16. Won turnover battle 1-0.

I couldn't find a 4th game. I think included the Bengals opening day of 2001 but Tom didn't start or play. They won the turnover battle 1-0 but lost the game 23-17.

17-8 (68%), 5th highest by %age; 25 is the 3rd lowest number of even-TO games (as noted above, the Pats have the most TO+ games since 2001).
