A Broncos fan's perspective on this Sunday's game

I'm kind of curious on how the Bronco's intend to cover Gronk. Bailey has good size and speed but I expect him to be looking for Welker. DJ Williams is probably the only LB who might cover Gronk.

I doubt if they use Miller and take him out of the pass rush.

Interested to see if they leave Bailey 1 on 1 with Welker. Welker has constantly beaten great CBs, he even got a 70 yard catch on Revis. I don't think Bailey can cover Welker alone.

I think the key to this game is that we have shown that we can solidify as a defense in the red zone, which is an area that Tebow and crew tend to struggle. Sure, we'll let Tebow throw a few long bombs like we let everyone, but once he gets in to the 20 that is where the game will be decided. His ability to improvise and scramble will be the main thing we need to watch in the red zone. Like the Jets showed us, you can't just give him a wide open lane to run or before you know it, he's gone 20 yards and is Tebowing on the sideline as Prater kicks an extra point.
Also if our Oline can keep Brady clean I don't think it will even be close.

I'm also not sure how we're going to attack that. Definitely won't match Bailey up with a tight end, not even Gronk. He may not even be on Welker the whole time, depending on where he's lined up. If they put a LB on him, you're right, it'll likely be DJ Williams. He's fast (probably only a tad slower than Gronk) and has enough experience to hopefully help him get through it. 1 on 1 though, DJ will get burned on occasion as any LB would with him, so I expect to see the safeties keep an eye on him as well.

Will it work? I'm not too confident...

No one in the NFL can cover gronk

would 6'3"-6'5" safeties to help cover the TE's and oversized WR's in the league have any merit? Gruden pointed out seattles 6'4" safety last night as a useful anomaly, made me wonder if there'd be a move towards this size player in the defensive backfield given the TE nightmares.

Normally, I would say that this is going to be a tough game for us. But, I believe Brady had a bad game last week (lots of bad throws) and he does not suck two weeks in a row. Combined with what you mentioned as Denver's bad secondary, I don't think Tebow keeps up with Brady. That's including Tebow looking really good against our magnificant secondary.

The one game Miller missed, we gave up 30+ to the Vikings. He impacts our defense that much, he's absolutely amazing.

Can we have one of those?

I think this game comes down to one simple thing. Who wins in our OLine vs your DLine. If we have a (relatively) healthy OLine with Vollmer and Connoly back. It will be up to Light, Mankins, Connoly, Waters, Vollmer, Gronk and Solder to keep Brady clean from a very solid front for Denver.

In my opinion if Brady has enough time we win this game. But if Miller and Dumerville get a roll on it will be a very close game.

I think offensively the broncs have been very lucky...more lucky than good. Tebow was abysmal through 3 quarters last week. it took an absolute meltdown by Chicago for them to get back in it never mind win it. Barber somehow diesnt just fall down and gets pushed OOB....and why do you run a fc'in sweep at that point anyways? Then Barber F's up again and fumbles on the 30...well within goulds range.....so again they got lucky like they have most of the games Tebow has played. Denvers D is very good. Dumervil is great. Someone had mentioned a comparison between 2001 Pats and 2011 broncs...disagree. Pats had a conservative O plan for Brady....but he was awesome running it and we had some good playmakers on that team....RB was steady...not great. The other thing is the Pats D in 2001 was imho a finely tuned machine that year. Jaworski still talks about that team as being one of the best ever to execute their schemes. Anyways....ecentually i believe Tim Tebow and their O's luck will run out. Especially as they play the better teams@....

Funny you mention that actually, there's been a few comparisons to the '01 Pats team. Hell, we were 80 to 1 underdogs to win our division after week 5! I've been in shock each of the past few weeks that we've managed to pull out miraculous wins at the end of the game. We've needed a 2 point conversion? We get it. Need a 60 yard field goal? Money. Need Tebow to suddenly put up over 30 points, he's done it. It's been so impractical and unexpected that like I said, nothing surprises me.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Tom Brady leads a 90 yard touchdown drive to take a 24-20 lead with 25 seconds left and a Tebow hail mary falls into Royal's hands for a game winning touchdown. The one advantage I left out is that we're playing at home, which always benefits us.

I don't expect to win, but the one thing this team has taught me is not to give up hope. Whether that ends this week or not, it's been fun.

What I don't get is that everyone dismisses Tebow and says he is abysmal but they do not finish telling the entire story (ever).

You just said :
"Tebow was abysmal through 3 quarters last week. it took an absolute meltdown by Chicago for them to get back in it"

Tebow went 18 for 24 for 191 yards and 1 TD in from midway through the 4th quarter / and about
5 minutes of OT (thats wild by ANY standard).

Yes Prater kicked field goals

yes Marion Barber is a bonehead

But Tebow still needed to take the Broncos (and it was him passing exclusively) up and down the field on THREE scoring drives to put prater in postion to tie and win the game (and thats after a 7/7 64 yard drive for a TD).

He did the same thing against the Vikings.

Also as far as dismissing him statistically, that is absurd. he leads the NFL in 4th quarter QBR with 7 minutes or less remaining (over Rodgers and Over brady and over brees) , he is second in the NFL in turnovers versus touches behind Rodgers AND since he was drafted in 2010 HE IS NUMBER 1 in
the NFL in Tds versus Touches.

I am not saying that Denver will win, I am simply saying that to some how think Tebow is all hype is ridicoulous.

Of course Brady is better, of course the Patriots are the better team but you dismiss Tebow and that Denver defense at your own peril.

The Patriots are incredibly overrated. They got a last minute scare by the Redskins led by Rex Grossman. Not to mention, that whole Redskins offense played fantastically against the Patriots defense. Gronkowski is good, but a lot of his plays in that game was due to HORRIBLE tackling, and leaving him wide open.

As long as we don't make stupid mistakes like dropping wide open passes, or commit costly turnovers and penalties, we have a great chance at winning.

I'm not worried about the Patriots at all. Actually, I GUARANTEE that we will beat New England. Based on what I've seen this season, I haven't really been all that impressed with them. They've been getting great individual play from Gronkowski and Brady for example, but that doesn't make up for their terrible defense.

All because of a few lucky games by tebow and they are ****y as ****...

"As for the Patriots... Brady and Peyton Manning have one thing in common. If you hit them and hit them hard..... they do not play well. Dont even need to sack them just hit them as often as hard as possible. I think the Pats Score 17 pts in Denver. I think the Broncos score ( Don't laugh ) 38. 10 or 14 of those due to turn overs. So D 37 NE 17.

My prediction for some stats .... Tebow less than 40 yds rushing. And 280+ yds passing. McGahee 140 yds rushing. Defense - 2 ints ( one a pick 6 ). 4 Sacks ...and 6 more knock downs.

Key to this game is turning Brady into a pinball ball early in the first Q. We may get burned for some early points but we need to knock him down and rattle him."

Good god..

"Not to mention he probably has the worst supporting cast as far as the team and coaching staff(hahaha at today) as a whole goes around him. I think we are 50x better top to bottom. It will just depend on if we can move the ball and score on offense. I expect it to be in the teens or 20s. No gigantic shootout here. Expect Brady to have a fumble and a pick."
