Tired of the "Offense did enough to win this game and the defense blew it" spin

I love the 'no matter how bad the O played, they scored in the end and the D should be able to hold for the win' thought process. I love it based upon the disregard for the reality of this team. Just because you own a car does not mean you should expect it to go from 0 to 60 in 4 seconds. The Patriots are not, repeat not predicated on defensive strength. Their formula for victory is based on, like it or not, scoring A LOT. They are predicated on a highly regarded star QB, the leading WR, dynamic TE duo and a long tenured WR (Branch). They are predicated on a D that is lacking in talent (shutdown CBs? Monster, play making LBs? Pass rushing extraordinaires??) and is expected to slow down the opposition enough so they are unable to score as much as the Patriots. How anyone can look at this team and its personnel and come to a different conclusion is puzzling. With that said, the performance of the D against the Giants has got to equal a victory or the Patriots are in real trouble for the 2011 season. When the D can give the O the ball back that many times, that has GOT to equal scoring.

If you don't like what the Patriots are, well, I don't necessarily blame you ((though their demise for the 2011 season is FAR from at hand. I have hope that the D will improve and the O will get back to its high potency)). However, what is liked or disliked is not relevant to the realities of this team. The formula for the Patriots success is offense. They will either get back to scoring a lot or yesterday's results will be occurring with an uncomfortable frequency.

Offense stepped up when they had to.

Defense folded like a house of cards when they needed to play their best.

They both sucked. Why is that so hard to understand?

They also had a defense NOT ranked 32nd in multiple categories.

Let's not look at stats in a vacuum.

They also had an incredible year from a franchise-type RB with Clock-killin' Corey Dillon.

More importantly, is your point about the defense being able to hold opponents to 17-18 points per game on a regular basis. Those days appear to be long gone.

The New England Patriots were fourth in scoring offense in 2004. Or did you forget that fact?

That's because the New England Patriots keep drafting disappointments on defense year after year since 2006.

What?

I think your reading comprehension skills took a nose dive for a minute.
I'm not the individual responsible for drafting all the recent defensive disappointments for the New England Patriots who are cut prior to the expiration of their rookie contracts.
