Deion Branch obviously did the right thing by holding out.
He did the thing that got him more money, you mean. Not honoring your word is not exactly the right thing. He signed the contract willingly, and las April said he would honor the contract.

I liked Deion, but I think the Seahawks were foolish to give up a first round pick for him, and were foolish to pay him the money they did.

Deion has a house on Lake Washington, how kool is that!

What it comes down to is this: Would you rather have had Deion sit out until Game 11, play the rest of this season and walk or get a first round draft pick next year? I choose the latter. If Deion had sat until week 11, my guess is he'd be hurt by now.

He would have never been able to walk as they would have franchised him and then traded him for a #1.

The benefit is Seattle's pick could be in the teens. Chances are the #1 would have been for the follwoing year or somewhere between 25-32.

One of these times I'm waiting for the #1 pick they get in a trade to be in the top 10.

I hoped Buffalo's pick for Bledsoe would be bad but wasn't/.

Then I hoped the Ravens pick(where they picked Boeller) would be bad but it ended up being 21 for Wilfork which was good, but not a top 10.

and now Seattles....

I am waiting for the team that trades their #1 pick to be downright awful.

You are correct that they still would have gotten a pick, but don't ignore the distraction that Branch would have been. It was a painful seperation, but in the end it was the healthies way to go.
