Haynesworth says time for the "sleeping giant" to awake - Extra Points - Boston.com

Albert Haynesworth said he is ready for the season opener against the Miami Dolphins, primarily because he is looking forward to getting back on the field.

"Oh yeah," Haynesworth said. "At least last year, I didn't think I was going to play because I was playing a lot of scout team. Now I'm in the system and I'm playing and practicing and stuff and I think it's time for me -- I guess, the sleeping giant -- to awake and go back out there on the field and play football again."

Haynesworth said "just to be able to have the chance again to play and show what I can do is awesome."

I've watched the Giants game twice and the biggest thing I noticed about Haynesworth is that he's slimmer than he was last year with the Redskins... Where as his belly used to clearly hide his belt, his belt was clearly visible..

One of the things that I've found about Haynesworth and Chad is that Kraft went out of his way to mention that neither player is how the media had portrayed them in the past. Now, that may just be both players kissing ass because they know this is it, but neither Albert nor Chad strike me as the ass kissing type.

I am looking forward to Monday's game. I'm hoping for one that is well-played with no injuries..

I cant wait for Fat Albert to get out there. I was at the exhib game against the Giants, and the first play he was on the field for, I watched him and he pushed the blocker about 4 yards straight back like a bulldozer. A small sample, I know, but I think he is going to have a great year. :rocker:

All good to hear, but Haynesworth can talk. He is a smooth talker. I want to hear this in week 17 with a season's sample to look at.
Don't think I don't like the guy as a Pats, but I don't like talk.

His stamina in 80+ degree heat and high humidity (even after 7PM) will be interesting to watch, and was one of the reasons I was most surprised to see Warren waived.

If ever there was a game calling for waves of rotation defenders in the trenches, it's a game at Miami in early September.

.

I thought something similar, but you have nailed down why I thought that. The best thing about Wilfork and Haynesworth for me is that teams are either going to need Pro Bowl Guards and Centres to run at them, or they will be hitting the B and C gaps and giving the D time to line up the RBs. That's my theory at least.

It is actually pretty cool down south this week, (well cool for us) the weather in Miami on Monday is supposed to be a high of 87 (low of 78) with a 30% chance of thunderstorms (which is what it is about everyday). Not exactly a sweatlodge.

You take a guy with tremendous talent, a nasty streak a mile wide, and put a giant chip on his shoulder and then let him loose on the AFC east, with a chance to get to the playoffs, yikes, I think Albert and Vince show will be this year Braodway sensation!

They still have plenty of DT. Wilfork, Haynesworth, Love, Wright, Pyor. That's a nice rotation.

No one has mentioned...In the Giants game, for every good Fat Albert play, a floppin on the ground play would follow. Reiss noticed this as well.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the guy. He does seem to get it. At least for now.

I think he will try this year because he has a money incentive to do it. He gets more money the more he produces and his future money depends on producing this year. Having his best friend being a barber in Worchester and Shaun Ellis being an old college teammate helps too.

Define "no one".

I think a lot of people pointed out he got gassed really quickly. There's no way he can play even 50% of the snaps at this point.

Hopefully our LBs will be playing well when that happens. I expect the rotation to help keep him fresh and hopefully, his conditioning will improve as the season wears on)

He need not play all the 3 downs but as long as he collapses the pocket along with Big Vince.. say.. 10-15 times, Mayo/Carter will do the QB sandwich.

Kid gloves is the name of the game

Which, fortunately, the Patriots have.

I think Haynesworth will be a beast in a couple months or so, but right now he looked extremely out of shape.

Just saying he's amped (my paraphrase) doesn't cut it for me, though of course it's nice to hear. What I want to see is this: four down linemen, all dominant when playing at their best, in fact playing at their best, all together:

LDE - Ellis
LDT - Haynesworth
RDT - Wilfork
RDE - Carter

I want to see opposing offenses try to contend with this foursome all playing at a high level. Now *that* will make me giddy.

LDE - Ellis
LDT - Haynesworth

RDE - Carter

Damn, that could be an absolutely brutal lineup. I just don't see Haynesworth getting to 3 down, or maybe even 2 down, playing shape. It's possible, but I was really disappointed with his progress in Game 4.
