Former Patriots LB Bruschi Says He'd Target Foster's Hamstring
By: Ian Logue

You have to love Tedy Bruschi's honesty. The ESPN analyst told ESPN Radio Thursday that he'd target Texans runningback Arian Foster's hamstring if he was still playing after Foster showed an MRI image of his injured hamstring recently....

Wow to be completely honest that article was completely classless! Bruschi is basically suggesting that he would cheapshot a guy because he was injured. Very dirty!!! And from one of my favorite Patriots, very disappointing!

Before I respond, since you used the words "to be completely honest" I'm going to assume you are not being sarcastic.

I don't know what you think happens in a professional football game, but I'm willing to guess that what you think does and does not occur does not remotely jibe with reality. In my opinion, if you're going to imply that no other teams or no other players would do the same thing, I think that's delusional.

I'm sure fans of other teams will use this as some sort of validation for hating the Pats and portraying them as evil, but so what; they're going to find some excuse to do that regardless.

To me there are two main things to take away from this: first, it's an excellent example of why Bill Belichick does not discuss injuries. Second, Bruschi should be applauded for his refreshing honesty. If networks are going to hire former players as analysts then actual insight such as this is what I want to hear; it's far preferential to the vanilla clichés all the other talking heads are going to parrot.

I'd target his hamstring too. Everything is fair game once the white line is crossed.

All Foster has done is prove he doesn't think before he does something. Lucky for him the Texans offense requires the same from it's running backs on game day.

This happens in every sport! When I played rugby, when I was playing my best, so I was 14-15, it was an automatic thing to target something that looked injured!

If a players hand were taped, you'd aim for them in a tackle, or try and give it a cheeky stamp! If a player had been injured earlier in the game, you would aim at him and his injury again!

Nothing new, always happens! Even the Patriots can do something a little dirty!

DIRTY IS DIRTY!!!! Whether everyone does it or not.

Targeting a known weak point is not dirty. Why do apex predators target the slow and the weak? Because they are easy targets, that's why.

It seems you have confused intent to injure with attacking a known problem.

Thats my boy!:rocker:

I love me some 54.... but jeebus he is about as smart as my kids pet rock. What a bonehead. lol

Some things are better left unsaid Tedy.

I guess we agree to disagree then. It's not as if Bruschi was suggesting he goes after a guys knees with hopes of ending his season or career. All he said was that as he got off the pile he might lean on that sore spot. Perhaps he and the other players should be sure to make an extra effort to avoid touching any opponent in a part of their body that has been bruised in the name of good sportsmanship?

If you consider that to be dirty and disappointing, I don't know how you follow any player or teams in any professional sport.

When I play I tape my left elbow up simply because I eff'ed up my right elbow in the past people target my left arm all the time but leaves my right arm with little damage during games.

I appreciate Tedy's candor.

Fans say they want analysts to be real. Fans say they want analysts to treat them like they know the game.

Well, Tedy's being real.

Would you rather he blow sunshine up your azz and tell you they swap lollipops in the pile?

I look forward to more of the same from Tedy.

And that's real talk.

I was a #8. You don't cheap shot on the field (like kicking guys on the ground - too easy to retaliate), but if a guy has a hitch in his step, nothing wrong with testing it out for him.

His comments made me realize that there might be a method to Belichick's madness pertaining to how they try and conceal injuries:

Bruschi’s comments make you realize potentially why Belichick isn’t overly descriptive when it comes to injuries. The reason is if he told reporters the exact nature of every injury, in a league where winning is everything, obviously any weakness gives the opposition a reason to potentially target an area on that same player when he returns from that injury. At least if the other team doesn’t know exactly what it is, it prevents potential situations like what Bruschi said he would do if it were him.

You can tell from the reaction of some people that they have never played the game at any level. It is nasty in the trenches folks. Should Foster get anywhere near a fumble scramble, a lot of guys will be punching his hammy, pulling it, tweeking it, hell, some may bite it.
The game looks so clean on Tv so you can sit in your couch and issue judgement on this benign statement from Bruschi.

Vasectomy can perform in a pile. If you are the bottom and have the ball, God bless you till the refs come in and pull everybody away. Can you imagine someone squeezing your balls while you hold onto the ball?

No. I'm sorry, I don't care who this came from but this is absolute bullsh!t. I cannot condone trying to injure an opposing player on purpose. I don't care WHAT is on the line. This is absolute crap.

I understand that. I think he's wrong. This is just not right.

I hear you - but the thing I was trying to point out is that fact that Bruschi's not out on a limb with this one. This is more of a widespread mentality than people probably realize, and it makes the fact they tend to not want to disclose injuries a little more logical when you take this into account.
