Sanders was supposed to be a leader in the secondary...I guess that did not pan out too well

Is Jarrad Page still unemployed?

He was a leader in the secondary for 5 years, I'd say he panned out just fine.

And Page signed with the Eagles. McGowan's still a FA though.

Same here, and people talk about Merriweather taking bad angles, Sanders I thought took more bad angles than most players on this defense.

Lots of competition for the annual Tebucky Jones Award.

Wow, out of nowhere. Didn't see this coming at all (don't care what others say, no player is perfect). When he became a free agent after his rookie contract expired, he generated a modicum of interest beyond New England. Perhaps he comes back, but I get the inkling that our time with James Sanders is done.

I always thought he was a BB type of player. I guess with their new vision of the defense, that he is just not a part of it anymore. I would be very curious to hear the logic behind this as another poster commented; however, I'd love to hear either Rodney Harrison's or Bruschi's analysis as well (and they might actually opine between today and tomorrow).

Is there any change Ras-I converts to safety now that we have a shortage there?

If he does, Butler and Wilhite will breathe a sigh of relief.

I did not expect that. Guess this means Merriweather won't be traded unless they plan to convert Ras-I/Arrington to safety.

Funny how everyone was on BM. Now I expect an unexpected cut at WR. Don't be shocked to see DB instead of BT cut.

Now we are really going to see how BB feels about the level of safety play on this team . If we do not see any trade or signing of a safety you can bet that all the talk about the Pats frustration will Merriweather were overblown!

I was never one of those that complained about Meriweather. While he does free lance at times, I think he's a good S. I think I've always been in the minority with this view. I've also been wondering for a while about what happens to him next year. I think that Welker makes sense for the tag, especially considering his age. For Meriweather, I could see a 2nd round tender.

Hope he finds a good team outside the division to go to. Always liked sanders especially for that pick vs the colts last year. Shame he never won a super bowl here.

Thanks for making a bad day worse! I sure he doesn't go the Jets. My guess is that he'd want to be on the West Coast. But again, that's a guess.

Given that they were already $10-12mm under the cap, not sure how this helps any. They didn't need cap space to sign someone. There are few $12mm players available in free agency right now.

I hope this was not a salary cap move, but simply a decision by the coaching staff that he was not one of the 8-10 best secondary players.

I think both of them are gone- I wouldn't be surprised at a trade to the Giants for a 4th or 5th pick. They are short at corner.
