Remembering a Familiar Face in Former Patriot Shawn Jefferson
By: Ian Logue

For any Patriots fan who has followed this team for longer than Tom Brady's tenure here at quarterback, there was an interesting article out of the Detroit News this morning on former Patriots receiver Shawn Jefferson....

When asked about Shawn when on WEEI Troy Brown had nothing but praise for him. His work ethic. How much he helped him as a young player. I respect Troy tremendously. And, you can tell Shawn is one of the guys who helped him become the player he was.

I loved Shawn Jefferson when he played and thought it was a HUGE mistake when they let him walk and he signed with Atlanta. I'd love the Pats to bring him in to shape up the future receiving corps, though I know he's planning on staying in Detroit.. .

Still remember SJ catching a TD pass from a broken-finger Bledsoe during a last-minute drive vs Miami.

He was a solid player for the team.

That game goes down as one of my favorite all-time Bledose moments. I remember him being on the sideline trying to throw after breaking it, and there being doubt about him being able to finish. That pass was unbelievable, and I remember the whole stadium going completely nuts

Yep. Deep pass over the middle. 1998 IIRC.

I remember a game where SJ dropped an easy pass and Parcells chewed him out on the sideline. You could read his lips, "You better not drop another pass!"

A couple series later, Bledsoe connected with one over the middle and SJ got completely blown up by Zach Thomas(I think?). He was laid out completely, but he hung onto the ball.

Tough guy, solid player.

Wasn't that Shawn's very first game as a Pat? I seem to recall that after catching a pass,
his clock was cleamed so thoroughly that he coughed up the ball & was KOed for a 10-count.

I think it might have been. For some reason, I think it was in 1996, so it would have been during his first season as a Pat. My memory of the game is that he dropped the easy one, got chewed out, and then got KOed and still hung onto the ball.

Yeah, that 1996 team has a lot of current/former coaches on it.

Not only Jefferson but Sam Gash, Corwin Brown, Ben Coates, Chad Eaton, Jerome Henderson and Otis Smith are all coaches at either the college or pro level.
