In the Globe:

The lacrosse community wasn’t surprised that Belichick took a chance on an athlete who spent more time in college playing lacrosse rather than football. Belichick played lacrosse at Annapolis High, Phillips Academy, and Wesleyan University. At Wesleyan, Belichick also played center and tight end for the football team. Both Belichick’s daughter Amanda (Wesleyan) and son Stephen (Rutgers) played lacrosse in college, too. Amanda is currently an assistant coach for the Ohio State women’s lacrosse program.

This also explains why he's going to pick 5 centers and 2 lacrosse goalies in next year's draft.

So can BB's daughter coach football after her Lax experience?
I'd like BB to start a coaching dynasty... where his kids takeover the team.

I'd settle for one Center, whom he actually keeps.

Hah, once you coach players like Mark Bavarro, you want to try someone else who offers what a TE like him could..

I believe that he feels that the position of TE is one of the most versatile in the entire game.

You must know how to properly block-- mirroring an offensive lineman, how to run routes, be able to catch, and be able to run with the ball...it's almost like a clustered combo of all of the basics of football, on every offensive position (except QB obviously)

BB likes the TE because it represents 'old-style' basic football theories.

I'm fine with it....only because he "played" for Ohio State. :rocker::bricks:

What do you mean Ninja? Are you just joking around, or do you mean because he grew up in the Youngstown/Struthers area for awhile?

There are actually a lot of Belichicks left in the Struthers/Youngstown area, but they go by "Be-lich-ek" (phonetical sounding). The spelling is Bilicic, and they accent it differently. My dad swears that they are still related, although (obviously) he could be wrong. If you recall the "Education of a Coach" book about him, I believe that they talk about the pronunciation difference.

BB is an Ohioan too (although he was young), and is quite familiar with the whole rust belt aspect of the area. His dad Steve worked for Youngstown Steel for some years, and graduated from Struthers (outside of Youngstown) before moving down to Annapolis (not directly).

My dad's high school in Struthers, where some of my family still lives, has the "Bill Belichick scholarship fund" set up at the Struthers HS. That money goes to help youth costs/equipment costs (I believe) for those who wish to persue their dream to play football. GREAT CAUSE for charity.

Your boy is a lot more active in our home state (I grew up in Youngstown and Columbus) than you'd realize :rocker:

Pats are unveiling a secret offense: this will be called the supertank personnel package, and it will have 4 TE and 1 RB.

No no no no no. I was replying to that previous poster who basically said..BB played for the women's side. Hence my reply. I was born in NH, lived there for 8 yrs before my parents moved to the Dayton area.
I knew that Steve Belichick lived around the Youngstown area but didn't realized the rest. BTW, just bought that book on ebay for $4.88.

Do you know if BB and Tress have any type of relationship? It's weird that some of the best coaches (college football and pro) are from the Youngtown area. Tress, BB, Bob Stoops and few others.

Okay, I gotcha. Sorry, with the start of a new semester (15 more credits after just finishing 15 credits last week for the damn summer semester) + getting married in 6 weeks, I have been a little bit out of it lately..I did not notice the previous poster's comment, lol. I wondered if you knew some inside info that I had never heard, although I also thought you may be joking around too.

The book is a good read. I really enjoyed it. It starts off a little bland/boring as it goes in detail about his dad's upbringing and family/coaching career, but if you are able to hang in there past that it's pretty decent. It definitely lets the reader into the mind of both men (Steve/Bill) to see their love for the game, and the incredible processes behind it. Both men were geniuses, and I can't even understand how anyone can really question Belichick's incredible passion and understanding of every single nuance of the game.

I am not sure about any BB/Tress connection, although of course I wouldn't be remotely surprised. I would have to imagine that they have had some contacts, meetings, phone calls etc regarding the draft and scouting of players. Seeing as how they're both pretty well respected in the coaching community and all, I'd bet that Belichick has ties to many of the top level coaches in some way, or at least knows them from physical meetings at some point. There's also the issue of Belichick coaching in Cleveland while Tressel was at YSU, so I'd have to guess that they would have had some contact or relationship due to the closeness of proximity.

I'd actually love to somehow see Tressel as some type of positional coach or consultant in the NFL. I realize the history of the two levels and the unsuccessful coaching attempts for many, but Tressel has proven himself a very reliable and well knowledgable coach. He has had extreme success at both YSU and OSU with multiple title appearances (as you are well aware), which tells me that he does indeed have a great football mind. Where he messed up was trying to discipline the kids themselves, and trying to keep it in a softer light--hence the lying. I do not believe his intentions were even remotely selfish, as he did make Pryor write essays on why he needs to change his habits and act more mature, and made him do several charity events and other 'in-house' punishment. I honestly (unbiased) believe that it wasn't about having a better record etc, they would've had a great record regardless. I believe that he felt it wasn't that big of a deal, and tried to handle it himself. I even think he was attempting to protect the players, their careers, and their mistakes. Regardless, that issue wouldn't really come up in the NFL, so it'd be all about his coaching skills--and those are phenomenal, as we all know.
