There are several roster fights on offense. We could even bring in more free agents, perhaps after the final cuts (IMHO likely). However, even after the roster fights, there is the question of the last position, which could be used or given to the Defense or the Special Teams units.

We usually keep 5 interior OL's, but with Cannon likely headed to the PUP list, we can afford to have 8 OL's early. After all, we only suit up 7, and often use only 5.

This offense was awesome last year. We have added Ridley, Ochocinco, and also should get some production from Price. I don't count on anything from Vareen or even Cannon at this point. But that's fine. We have had major improvements from 2010.

OFFENSE (25)
QB (3) - Brady, Mallett, Hoyer
RB (4) - Green-Ellis, Woodhead, Ridley, Morris/Vareen
WR (6) - Welker, Ochocinco, Branch, Price, Edelman, Slater
OT (4) - Light, Vollmer, Solder, Maneri/fa
OG/C (4) - Mankins, Koppen, Connolly, Ohrnberger/Austin/Wendell/fa
TE (3) - Gronkowski, Hernandez, Smith/Yeatman/Crumpler
#25 (1) - Tate, 5th OG/C, 5th RB, 4th TE

PUP/NFI - Faulk, Cannon
IR? - Vareen

I think they cut that Brady guy. After last preseason game, he might be the third best QB on the roster.

Who says that Offense/Defense is going to be a 25/25 split?

In that scenario, I take the 5th RB or Tate.

I indicated that this position could be turned over to the Special Teams or Defensive units.

I would think in this scenario another interior lineman would be the most likely way to go for that last roster spot. Sure, you could add a guy from the PS if somebody got injured - there's typically only four G/C on the gameday roster - but now you're rolling the dice that another team doesn't sign him either after final TC cuts, or during the season off your PS.

I do agree with you. I don't think any of the other positioned mentioned are important enough to forgo the normal complement of interior linemen.

On the other hand, if we signed a veteran OL, we might be better able to go to 8 OL's for 6 games, until we activate Cannon.

Of course, what I would REALLY like to see is for Cannon to practice and be part of the team from Day 1, as the inactive interior lineman.
