Who Might We Lose to IR

What about putting Tate on IR?

If Ridley is a beast tomorrow, Vareen goes on IR most likely. Way too many running backs already

Wasn't Dowling's main concern coming out of college was injuries? This doesn't really help dispel that reputation.

Serious IR question...
does the League (e.g. Goodell & his butt buddies) have a medical standard that teams must meet to qualify a player for IR or conversely could you IR a player for a hangnail like in MLB?

The logic in this thread. It hurts, holy crap.

Ras-IR Dowling. Name was coined by some guy on this forum and it's caught on pretty well. I think it has a ring to it.

Ras IR Dowling

Hopefully we're only speculating, but I think that Dowling is a strong candidate to at least be put on PUP--where he'd likely miss about half the season anyway (give or take a game). Hopefully it's closer to that than all-out IR for the yr.

I absolutely LOVED this past draft, however I have been very leery of Dowling from the start. The kid has had multiple injuries at multiple body parts and places..it just seemed a little weird to me. We need to stay positive though, at least cautiously positive.

In my opinion, I think he's almost a lock for at least PUP, as the roster spots are limited, and it's pretty likely that BB did not expect too much from him anyway. I believe he was more of a 'for the future' pick, rather than a 'right now' pick.

I do not believe there is any kind of 'check-up' or medical standard, PWP.

I believe that there have been multiple instances around the league where it's just pretty much impossible to prove any 'stashing' violations, although as we know, we have all had our opinions on the matter.

I don't think the Dowling pick was as much for 2011 as it was for the future anyway, just my opinion though.

I wouldn't be even remotely surprised at Dowling or Vareen being PUP'ed and slowly being blended in approx. halfway through the yr, as we are pretty well set at the positions pretty well. As far as all-out IR for the entire yr, I guess only time will tell that answer.

It's so hard to speculate when injuries are concerned on this team, but when they're rookies who may not have been expected to contribute too much anyway---that seems to make it easier, at least in my opinion. I could obviously be way off of course. We'll know in 3 weeks, but I'm guessing that at least one of Dowling/Vareen miss a significant amt of time.

i understand the idea of IR, but i cannot imagine vereen, dowling and spikes are candidates for the IR this early in the game. that seems way too immature....are there any facts to support this ? it seems pure speculation

Maybe not for IR--but at least for PUP. I'm not sure anything about Spikes, but with Dowling and Vareen, they are both rookies trying to break through in solid and deep positional groupings.

We all will have our opinions of course, but I am thinking that in a poor draft, where we had more of a luxury than in yrs past--they were picked more for the future anyway.

I expect at least one of them to miss a significant amt of time, and I don't even think that we should worry in the least. It frees up a roster spot, and especially this yr--that seems to be a pretty high priority.

Wasn't his injury hamstring related? Would you want the coaches to put him back out there, if he isn't 100%? With his position that sort of injury needs to be back at 100%!

That's a great point Cal, but Dowling had multiple injuries in his last 2 yrs at Virginia. It wasn't just limited to a hamstring. Hopefully, he loses the dreaded injury bug very soon. I still think we had a serious luxury in this draft, with most of the team set anyway. On top of that, we went out and made some serious trades + signed some FA's that we didn't expect. That makes the roster even more solidified. It's pretty obvious to me (or at least my strong opinion) that many of our picks were luxuries that pointed to the future. I think we could have missed just about the entire draft, and still ended up just fine for this specific yr.
