IR
Obviously there can be injuries in the next 3 games. The candidates at the moment seem to be Dowling, Vareen and Spikes.

NFI
Cannon can go there is he doesn't practice.

PUP
Deaderick, Faulk and Brace seem to be possibilities.

While I do not want to lose anyone, I think that these none of these players would be major losses.

I would add Mike Wright to the IR list.

Spikes, and Wright being MIA for so long are making me nervous. At least some of the other guys are attending practice, if not participating.

I think Spikes would be a semi-major loss because it means more wear and tear on Mayo during the season if he has to play full-time SILB.

If Spikes is out Fletcher would play in his slot, Mayo's role won't change.

What makes you think any of this guys are ready to miss the whole year ?

I think Vareen and Dowling would be major Losses. Though I'm pretty sure we will get them back AT LEAST before the 3rd Preseason game. Dowling, I heard, pulled a muscle (hammy) during the conditioning run, but finished anyway. He tried to come back right away the next day and tweaked it again, thus they are being very careful with it. But he's been seen at all the practices lately....in shorts and not gimping around., so I don't think it wont be too long before we see him.

Vareen I'm not sure. But think the "muscle pull" applies to him as well. Given the nature of both their positions, its probably best that they not practice until they are 100%.

What's the rule on placing players on IR right now? I would think it would be advantageous if you could use the roster spot on someone else. Or do players on rookie contracts have to pass through waivers first?

If they could be placed on IR now without penalty, then that would be auspicious in that the training staff must believe the players could return eventually and aren't hopeless cases for the current season.

Faulk will be on PUP for 6 weeks in all likelyhood still leaving 5 RBs on the roster....would not be surprised to see Vereen redshirted in 2011

Maroney and Chad Jackson.

According to Howe from NESN Spikes injury isn't that serious, it's right ankle.

Non-vested players have to pass through waivers, we picked up Josh Barrett this way last year. During the season they can go directly to IR. Of course if there is an injury settlement the players become free agents.

Losing Spikes for the year would be real bad.....not much backup at LB position.....Who would Fletcher's backup be?

Also on 8/12 Rap reported that Spikes was walking without a limp any longer.

Is spikes hurt that badly??? if so this sucks

I'd hate to lose him all year:bricks:

Guyton :bricks:

A year before I would have said that Fletcher and Guyton were both 3-4 Wilb. Since Dane gained weight and looked awesome blitzing, I would move him to 3-4SILB/ 4-3MLB or 4-3 Sam.

Good to hear that #Patriots LB Brandon Spikes was walking without a limp. Wonder if that means he'll be back soon...
