Regarding Revis vs Ochocinco...

Come on guys. I know we hate the Jets, but Revis is going to get the better of whoever our #1 receiver is. He wins against everybody, including guys way better than 85 has ever been. And that's fine. We'll just win every other match-up on the field.

What goes around comes around..

He was the pick that Goodell gave the Jets for the camera gate faux pas.

That's not true...

"DE Shaun Ellis (1-12-00) to the Jets from Carolina/Washington/San Francisco for LB Julian Peterson (1-16-00) on a pick originally owned by New England and DB Jason Webster (2-48-00). The 1-16-00 pick had been partial compensation to the Jets for coach Bill Belichick (see 2000: coach Bill Belichick)."

Drafthistory.com

Joe - You're right. He wasn't taken with the 16th pick, but the 12th. But to say that he wasn't taken with the pick that was part of the compensation is what is inaccurate. Otherwise, how would the Jets have gotten to #12 without the 16th pick???? And to say they could have used #18 to do so isn't accurate either because that would have required them to add something more to their trade with San Fran..

All true

But not only can't we say

"The Jets picked Ellis with the Belichick pick"

We also can't say:

"Without the Belichick pick the Jets couldn't have traded up for Ellis"

... because there's a few dozen ways you can parlay 18 up to 12 or even trade future years draft picks if you have your heart set on someone at 18

I think we can accurately say "Ellis was drafted by the Jets as part of a trade with San Francisco that included the Belichick draft pick"

That's what it was - it's still a good story if Ellis comes back to haunt the Jets - and Rex Ryan is certainly trying to help motivate Ellis further with his trash talk "I won't wish him well" talk now too!

Just saw something on Rex Ryan's words on Ellis coming here. He said something like, 'he's going to the Patriots, so there is no way I am going to wish him well'. Rex is being Rex.

Good LORD.

Jets Got: Exactly 5/6 of Shaun Ellis ~ our #16 + #48 was traded for #12: Ellis.

Patriots Got: Coach Bill Belichick.

"The Jets traded Coach Belichick for 5/6 of Shaun Ellis."

DONE.

The Evil That Bill Does

I dont buy it.

The Jets canned Cromartie after spending a 2nd round pick on him after 1 season. They were desperate for a CB. Kyle Wilson has underwhelmed. Everyone knew what the cost was for Aso's services.

So the Jets bid was the same or less than the Eagles? Really? They bid less than Dallas when Cromartie wasnt supposed to be back?

They were never desperate for a CB. They had Cromartie on the backburner, and decided to go after Aso. They knew Aso would command a few million more than Cro, and thought the difference in price was well worth it to try and form one of the best duo CB of the past couple decades. When Aso spurned us, they went back to Cro. Kyle Wilson has been in the league 1 year, and he was far from awful. He played better as the year went on, as he should for a rookie. He obviously didn't play as well as McCourty, which I'm sure you're using as your benchmark. I'll reserve judgment on Wilson for 2 more years; the proper time it takes to evaluate a draft choice.

You may be right in your analysis. All I'm saying is you don't know what the Jets offer was (no paper/writer ever reported it), so you don't know what we bid. Its possible we bid 10, and didn't want to go any higher. I highly doubt we offered Aso more than 11.5, which is what Revis makes. In the end though, Aso went to a team he thought gave him a better chance to win the SB.

I'm OK with that. Why not?

Thats the idea of bringing 85, BB dont want him to beat Revis cause he knows he cant, he wants him to keep revis busy covering him while brady passes to welker, branch and to the young TE's, and while brady sees that revis is off-guard he throws a bomb to 85. thats what we needed in that last playoff game against them, to spread the field with a deep threat so brady could easly drive down field with the other WR (and to crumpler to catch that TD pass he dropped).

To be fair, he did follow up that quote with something like 'I hope he stays healthy, but I don't want him to do well against us.' I can see how people may construe that original quote to mean something other than its intended purpose.

It's going to be weird watching the Jets and not seeing Ellis there on the line. He was the rock of our D-line for more than a decade. He was a GREAT Jet.

I'm kind of at a loss for words, so I'll just say that I wish him all the success in the world (except when he's playing the Jets), and that if the Pats win the Super Bowl, while most of me will be pissed, a small part will be happy that Ellis finally won a ring.
Why can't more Jets fans be like you?

Rex said.

I won't wish him good luck, but I do wish him good health.

Interesting. They sure didn't show the rest of it on ESPN NEWS when I watched it. Funny how the press likes to stir trouble. I was an innocent news fowarder.

Haynewsworth is 335 LBS
Brace is 330 LBS
Wilfolk is 325 LBS
Kade Weston is 316 LBS
Myron Pryer and Kyle Love are 310 LBS

I'm sure glad with Shaun Ellis at 6'5" 295 LBS and Mike Wright coming back from injury at 6'4" 295 LBS, we can augment the big guys on the line with some tiny players.

Just curoius but what guys are you talking about that are 'way better than 85 has ever been'?

And Wilfork is a lot closer to 350 than 325 btw. BB has got himself some Monsters of the Midway to throw at offenses! Gotta love the Pats DL situation right now. Even if we don't manage to snag Osi, this defense is shaping up to be an absolute bear for OLs to handle.

Randy Moss?

I still remember that completely ridiculous one hand TD catch he made on Revis. Made the best CB in the game look completely helpless! Moss had his moments of complete awesomeness. Too bad he did nothing of note after that in the game.
