Pats Trade for Haynesworth (merged)

Quick thoughts:

1. I'm sure BB consulted with Jim Schwartz on this decision.
2. I'd guess that Haynesworth is too dumb to pick up new schemes ... except that BB surely disagrees.
3. Haynesworth has an expensive contract. He has to be more than a 15-down change-of-pace player, or he'll be cut.
4. 3-4 DE isn't as bad for a moody guy who doesn't want to be NT as NT is. At NT, you assume a double-team, AND your first job is to ensure the two blockers don't get away from you. At DE, if you get controlled by a double-team it wasn't a serious failure, and if you get past the double-team it was a nice success.

5. I'm sure that BB consulted with Kraft on the decision as well since we all know the how Myra didn't care for certain things and the Pats have cut people who were involved in domestic abuse issues before (Willie Andrews, Christian Peter, Kenyatta Jones, that kicker).

6. I am sure that the Pats are going to add some clauses to the contracts that will be make or break.

Just an aside, there are between 55 and 70 defensive plays a game. Haynesworth will probably play in 50% or more (if he makes it out of TC). So I'm not worried about the contract money.. Especially when you consider that the top DEs are making in the 10 million (+) range.

WOW.

Gentlemen...

The Patriots just became prohibitive favorites to win each of the next 3 Super Bowls.

Remember where you read it.

This is an EXCELLENT Pick Up. Gettin More For le$$.
Throw out what ever went down with Haynes while he was in Washington. Belichick is NOTORIOUS for getting top past players aka Cory D, Moss to return close to their potential. There's nothing like lookin down'da barrel of Wilfolk & Haynesworth! Fresh start for Haynes with a Great organization & Great QB ALWAYS commited to winning should be motivation & incentive ENOUGH!

GO PATS!

Good move by the Pats. We have a team that can win now and we have no time to wait for Brace, Deadrick, etc to emerge. If Fat Al can come in and play with conviction, he gives us the inside push that we lacked last year.

Warren, Wilfork, Haynesworth.

Fantastic.

When I woke up with my glazed eyes I saw a blurb about Haynesworth being traded. My first reaction was "What sucker fell for that trade and picked up that contract".

My eyes popped open when I read the Patriots were that team.

However, before overreacting, I waited for more details and saw this is yet another steal. I think BB is one of the few people in the league that can made a trade for him and come out on top regardless of what happens.

This is the type of move that still shows BB is playing chess while the rest of the league is playing checkers. Low risk, extremely high reward move.. brilliant.

OTG, while your enthusiasm is remarkable, ATM he has a monstrous roster bonus due in 2013. Until something happens to that, I wouldn't count on Haynesworth being here that long.

not so stoked- hopefully Albert can get in shape and just play football!
im more looking at what our divisional rivals are doing-- and i dont like it- Bush to Miami- not good

LOL what do you think Bill conned the skins?? there is a reason why Skins give Albert away and its not totally because they are dumb

FINALLY. We finally have replaced Seymour in the base 3-4 and in sub packages.

It took a while, but Bill finally pulled it off. Great move by him, very happy with the move. Similar to what the Jets did with Santonio last year -- a 5th rounder for a great talent who was on the outs elsewhere.

When motivated, this guy is one of the best in the game. Hopefully he comes in with a chip on his shoulder, wanting to prove people wrong. This will help stop the run in the base defense and help the interior pass rush in sub packages.

We have not had an impact DT/DE like this since Seymour. Very exciting.

Will be interesting to see what kind of shape Haybesworth shows up in. I'm thinking it's 'gonna be bad but hoping I am wrong.

If the Pats can get two productive years out of him....I'm fine with that.

Yup! Everybody knows he won't be getting that $29 Mill.

So he's here for 2 years, guaranteed.

And then he has to start playing for the next contract...JUST when his initial enthusiasm might be waning!! :rocker:

Im having a real hard time getting all giddy over this fat lazy scumbag.

If he helps us awesome. But im not expecting much out of him TBH.

im not going that far- id say fat and lazy but i agree-

Didn't it take Haynesworth forever to pass his conditioning test last year?

He was holding out to try and get traded last year iirc, this year his agent had already said he'd be reporting on time (which most likely means in shape as well). I'm not too worried about his physical condition. If he's not in shape the trade doesn't go through either from what I understand. So it sounds like its all on AH from here on out.

Only a scumbag stomps a guys head while he is down and defenseless.

I dont care if he's a Pat now or not. This guy is trash.

That said... I hope he performs at stud level on the field. Im just not going into the season expecting it.

This was a factor for both Shanahan and BB,imo:

Mike Lombardi on the NFLN reported that both the Eagles and the Vikings were showing serious interest in acquiring AH.This means a couple of things to me:

1.Shanahan wanted to get AH out of the NFC
2.Even though he wouldn't have traded with an NFC team, especially Philly, what if they offered a higher draft choice or were waiting for him to be released.Haynesworth in the NFCE would be embarrasing.
3.I'll never prove it,but imho,Shanahan and BB had a tacit agreement on this, maybe going back to the draft.
4.I think there is another shoe to drop here with the 'skins.....possibly:James Sanders,Ron Brace or really,off-the-wall......Brandon Tate(pats would sign Brad Smith).

Nothing tangible....just my gut,i could be wrong.

I'm thrilled with the potential run stopping ramifications of this transaction. As usual BB looks shrewd on the money side which is always nice. That equals a very nice situation for the next 2 seasons for the organization and us as fans. Patriots have done their part now all we need is for AH to come and play with the chip the size of Dan snyder's wallet.

This addresses a lot of my concerns defensively and will make our OLB look better than they are with improved D-line play. That's basically all we talked about leading up to the draft thinking we were getting a 5-tech there. As circumstance would have it we get a proven RDE that has some issues. Seems about same risk as a clean cut rookie who you don't know if they can play at this level or not. It's gonna be fun being a pats fan as always.

Cam Heyward who?! I'm so over it.
