If I recall correctly Gaffney and Washington left as free agents for more money elsewhere; their replacements were going to be Galloway, who had been let go by Tampa Bay because Antonio Bryant had a big season the previous year, and the Eagle's Greg Lewis, who was obtained for a 5th-round draft pick.
Aiken was like Slater this past year: his position was listed as WR but he was initially on the roster strictly for special teams. He ended up at WR by default, only because first Lewis, and then Galloway did not work out.
Ditto with Kelley Washington, who had a grand total of ONE reception in two years with the Patriots.
