The Pats started out with 17 and 28.

The Pats ended up with OT Nate Solder, 56, and New Orleans' 1st rounder in 2012.

How would you rate their haul?

I'm happy with it being a win just now. Really, day 1's success rests on what happens with pick 33 for mine.

Tom Brady is getting older and older and yet BB drafts a project OT and trades out of the first round yet again.

Fail.

i say it was ok... Light is geting up there in age the pats may not want to give him 5 or 6 million but all of the top DE's are off the bord now yes they still have there choice of OLB/ pass rushers and 3 picks on day two but i just dont see BB Drafting a OLB

We did nothing to upgrade the defense and pass rush. Passed up too much talent.

its hard to rate day one. they may have some ideas on some free agents whenever that gets rolling. its difficult getting excited about a OL they're not sexy. here's hoping Friday brings some DL or LB

OT are hard to come and the best part is we netted a 1st next year with only dropping back one round. BB is showing the Aints how its done.

Pats should have picked at 28. Heyward or Wilkerson. I voted meh, but probably should have voted fail.

Who knows how this will turn out. Solder could be a bust. Brees could blow out his knee and NO could go 5-11 next year. What I do know is the Pats have gone 0-3 in the last three playoff games, including two 1 and done's with 2 very poor playoff performances. All the while they have made many draft day trades, trading for future picks and so called better "value" picks in later rounds. BB obviously knows more then any of us, but i just cant be happy with another year of this. It just seems to not have helped the Pats in recent years. Should we expect this year to be any different?

Massive fail. We lost 2 years of Seymour for a developmental OT. We should have come away with two great players today and we end up with a single maybe. When will Bill pull the trigger and go grab the blue chip guy, when Brady is 40?

Here we sit, and still have no pass rush, and medicocre running backs by committee.

I understand the Patriot way and I like the Solder pick, but seeing Wilkerson and Heyward go at the end of the round wasn't a lot of fun.

That said, BIG day Friday. All starts at 6 p.m. -- rounds two and three. As great as the McCourty picked turned out, a lot of what made the '10 draft so special happened on day two.

And for all those complaining about the Pats stockpiling picks that they never use: 12 picks in 09, 12 picks in 10, and on track still to make nine (I believe) picks this year.

Right, and of those 24 picks the p[ast two years, how many have stuck with the team? I'd rather have less picks with more impact.

Ask me again after tomorrow night.

OL was a need and it was filled. BB and co have good record with OL's so I will defer to them.

Only thing that doesn't make sense is the trade w/ NO at 28. Wouldn't it make more sense to draft at 28 and deal 33 for a 1 to a team looking to draft daulton/mallet. Chances are that draft pick would be better than the NO one. Also, you get a better player at 28 than 33.

Who still needs a QB? Remember that Buffalo and Cincinnati both need QBs, and are picking 34 and 35. . . .

They assumed this might happen when they signed Stroud (plus Warren returns). We have a lot of DEs, I admit they're somewhat blah though.

The solder pick not only improves the line but also improves Brady's options in the red area. Having Solder as an eligible receiver in goal line situations is huge. Our big set just got bigger.

I like the trade also. I think we still can get 1 more 1st for next year. We can get a pass rusher in the 2nd and RB in the 3rd.

My only disappointment is that Wilkerson is going to the Jest. This feels like a pick-6. Interestingly, Da’Quan Bowers (knee) still available. I also like Leshoure and Sheard.

Dumb post.

Every draft pick is BY DEFINITION a maybe.
