Scources: Locker visiting Patriots

Either it's a major smokescreen to attract more trading interest from QB needy teams, or we have even more of a luxury with less roster spots open than I thought-- in the aspect of a backup QB.

I guess if Indy's talking high pick backup (although Peyton is slightly older), and Green Bay drafted Rodgers under the wing of Favre pretty early while he sat and learned, I wouldn't be 'shocked,' but I'd at least be surprised

This team sure keeps it interesting, one way or another.

Dane Locker, the heir to TFB, DRAFT THE BEAST!

Or as is likely the case with all the visits, a little bit of both. Almost certainly a smokescreen at #17 and #28. Likely a smokescreen at #33. You start to the feel heat in the mid 2nd on a trade-down. You can see the fire at #60.

Played the same game with Tebow last year. Who knows what would have happened if he slid down to the mid 2nd? Will never know about Tebow. Will likely never know about Locker either. But Belichick will be ready just in case. If that interest amps up the run on QBs in the mid-late 1st and early 2nd, all the better.

Well Hoyer isn't setting the world on fire. So I'm not surprised they're at least taking a look at Locker. I think they will confirm that his accuracy sucks and will field offers from other teams who want him at the 28/33 spot. ^_^

Would it be unheard of for a team to bring in a guy like Locker to get an assessment of the competition he faced? Say Rahim Moore, Brooks Reed, Cameron Jordan or Akeem Ayers?

Any Player who is associated with the patriots bumps their value, the patriots may just be trying to make locker a first round pick so more players slide down to them, or increase his value if he goes into the second round so someone else can trade up to 33 and get him.

Washington or Minnesota might be interested in locker but 10 and 12 may be too high for them, they could make a trade with the patriots and get locker at 17.

either way, id be very surprised if the patriots have a legitimate interest in locker, he may just be this years Tim Tebow to the patriots.

along those same line, if you believe the patriots want ingram over leshoure, you bring in leshoure. you'd think the patriots have enough intel on ingram already from Nick Saban's crew.

Id keep an eye on Alabama players and Florida players as a rule of thumb, Belichick has drafted many players from schools he has connections with lately.

Certainly a possibility.

dont care for Locker personally...but i would be willing to take a peak at Dalton or Kaepernick (sp?)

exactly.

I assume other teams pay close attention to who we look at.

Todd McShay actually made a good point about this: (A) the Pats aren't likely to take Locker, but (B) if they do plan to take a QB high, it probably means they think they can get a lot for Brian Hoyer (the how and the when is, of course, a big question).

and BB has good things to say about Dez Bryant when he worked out for us...

That's kind of a bad example because Vizini gets tricked and is the one who ends up dying even though he thought he was so clever.

Anyways I think there's plenty of positive things to say about Dez Bryant. He's athletic and shows promise. However I wouldn't take him over McCourty.

I'll take the shutdown corner every time.

I wouldn't mind Hankerson in the 2nd this year though. He could be the next Greg Jennings maybe.

Chad Jackson claims examples can always be made to work, bad or not.

Exactly what I was thinking. Although I don't think BB's allowed to put him through live tackling drills. I have to imagine Locker was a 2-way stud in HS. Maybe Locker is the pass rushing OLB we've all been dreaming of.

I still think he'll be playing baseball in 4 years though.

Or maybe, Locker could end up in Buffalo at #35, or Miami at #15, and Bill wants to get a looksee at a potential starting QB in the East.

I like Locker though.
