It would hurt the pats because I think we use more ST specialists than most teams. I think more teams use backup players at other positions for ST, it has been a way for guys to PROVE IT in the league before starting. We drool over guys like Harrison for Pitt yet we keep a guy like Izzo around so long. Do other teams have the equivalent of Slater? Really?? A touchback every time eliminates the need for these specialists, narrows the influence of ST on the game. Actually INCREASES the need for a guy like Ghost though.
 
Guess what team has both a crappy place kicker and an even worse return team? The Colts, eff you Polian.

What if Gost went for less distance and more hangtime, the coverage team has less field to run. If he could pop it the team could try to pin them in the 20. This new rule makes touchbacks less appealing.
