After participating in the bench press on Friday, USC offensive lineman Tyron Smith abruptly has decided to drop out of the remainder of the Scouting Combine events.

The news comes from Steve Wyche of NFL Network.

The reason for the decision isn’t known.

Wow. One of the top rated OTs...may change round one -- depending on the reason. Stay tuned...

I don't know how reliable this source is, but here's what he wrote:

USC Offensive Tackle Tyron Smith Drops Out Of Combine Workouts | GCOBB.COM
USC offensive tackle, Tyron Smith, who had been so impressive when he weighed in yesterday dropped out of the workouts today. He had an athroscopic procedure done on one of his knees recently and the knee had swollen up, so he’s not going to workout this weekend.

He will workout for the scouts at the USC Pro Day which will occur on March 30. He has plenty of time to show what he can do, so I don’t think he’ll be penalized for the delay.

Hmm...so did he drop out of positional workouts because of a medical condition (not a problem) or just up and go home, skipping out on interviews, Wonderlic testing, etc. (problem)?

Up above it says "out of the workouts."

He needed to show up a the wiegh-in, since there was some question with regard to his being too light. USC players seem to be able to gain a few pounds as needed.

From the link provided by patchick:

He also addressed the media Friday and said he gained almost 30 healthy pounds by ditching fast food.

I'm not sure if that addresses the question about his weight, or opens up a dozen more I want to ask about it.

Great Blue North reports that Smith weighed in at 307 lbs. I believe he tweaked something.

It only brings up one question for me. Winny or Deca?

Why choose when you can do both? Wouldn't that show the prospect is willing to go all-out?
