If you had a say in what we pick next year in the first round; what positions do you take?
I have to go CB and either DL. You win on the line.

Best DB avaible

and an LB

Patrick Willis + Reggie Nelson

I like Nelson, he could be athetic enough to play CB, provides good versatility. Willis like most college LBs just doesn't seem to have the size the Patriots covet.

If picking today I would choose (they both may be gone).

Marcus McCauley Sr. CB Fresno State
Quentin Moses Sr. DE Georgia (He is dropping and could be available)

No matter who we take we need more overall team Speed. Even BB can't coach speed.

I would say DB and ILB since we addressed the Offense last draft but I'm going to say we will draft a TE.

Why does everone always say draft another TE to help with blocking?
Why not get a good OL to do this? We need another John Hannah or something close.

GBN has a 1st round Mock out this week. Not bad. I don't know if the pats would take the Meriweather kid because of character issues. I have no problem with a cb and a s. I'm assuming Asante walks. Would love to get a lb or two. But, we can probably use the speed in the secondary more. I don't see a couple of guys whom I think(depends on workouts) will be 1st rounders listed. D.Hughes - cb - Cal, M.Griffin - s - Texas,A.Spencer olb/de - Purdue. Looks like there will be talent to help out at positions we need it.

Cornerback and free safety. They need a cornerback even if

Asante Samuel re-signs and Eugene Wilson becomes a free agent

in 2008.

Best DB and/or LB....

As old as we are at LB why do you think BB doesn't draft one early?

Darrelle Revis and Daymeion Hughes, both CBs.

SS and FS can be gotten later.

Also Landry may be available in the first. He's supposedly 'good'. As for needing another TE, they have 2 now with Graham gone.

LB like Spencer in the 3rd maybe. Dan Bauzin in the 3rd. David Harris in the 4th from michigan.

Maybe a safety like John Wndling of wyoming in the 4th or so.

I tried to watch Landry a little against Arkansas. I think the McFadden
kid from Arkansas is the best player in the country. He's big, fast, shifty and runs hard. He turned the corner on a reverse and outran the cb to the sideline. Instead of running out of bounds he saw Landry coming and tried to run him over with a full head of steam. Landry tackled him in the open field with nobody around them. Not too many college db's make that play. I know he made a bad read against Tennessee. Gave up a td over his head. But, I think that was a technique issue. Not a lack of talent. He back-pedaled and misjudged the throw instead of turning and running with the wr. If BB really likes one of the safeties. We could always move E.Wilson to cb in 07 to replace Asante. If Geno can do it, we re-up him. If not, let him walk. I dont
think he's developed as much as a FS as we hoped. Reggie Nelson - FS from Florida looked good today against FSU. Big hit. And, also a nice pick.

I don't think Spencer will be around in round 3. Kiper has him in his Top 25 now. I know that's only Sr's. But, that's quite a drop to about 90(our pick).
If spencer works out well, he could really move up in the draft. Pass rushers are always at a premium. Look how much D.Ware moved up the year he came out. And, that Babin kid Houston traded up for.

how about Jarrett tonight? Hes shown much more speed and seperation than in the past..made great catches..high..sideline..1 handed. I might of changed my mind wether or not a WR would be good for us in first round..

1. Calvin Johnson
2. Dwayne Jarrett

^thats my order of WRs i would take

When all is said and done I think Anthony Spencer will shoot up the draft like Wimbley did last year. He's 6'3'' 260 and very fast, 4.6, plus he has crazy production (10.5 sacks, 26.5 TFL, 7 passes defensed) and can play the run. His motor will make him a better OLB than Moses, who also lacks strength at the POA, and Spencer has better size and speed than Woodley (6'1'' 257 4.7). Colvin can help break in a fellow Purdue alum at OLB next year. Right now I'm leaning toward Nelson and Spencer in rd 1.

I really like Nelson's game (that's REALLY LIKE) but he looks a little frail for the big man's game he plays. He plays like Harrison but at 25 pounds or so lighter. I just can't see him surviving.

Nelson is a play maker, and he may be talented enough to play nickel CB which is not as physical as Safety. In year 2 he could take over for Wilson.

hes not as physical at safety? he hits people..if u didnt see his weight youd say hes great

a lot of college players need to add weight..hes between 195-205 right now and with some work in weightroom he can get to 210 or more

hes versatile..he can play CB..

reed weights 200...Geno weights 195

hes got room to add to his frame and hes a playmaker..if he cant help at safety in pros..he can always play cB

Darrelle Revis and Daymeion Hughes, both CBs.

I like Revis. But here's a negative blurb on Hughes:

Cal CB Daymeion Hughes got exposed vs. USC WR Steve Smith last week. He has been productive and made a lot of plays on the ball this year. But, as he showed when he got caught flat-footed in man coverage vs. the Trojans, he will bust a lot of coverages, and when he does, it is not being singled out as much. Some scouts like him as high as the second round. Others have graded him in the seventh. The reality is he will likely fall into the middle rounds as a cover-2, zone corner, where his lack of speed can be covered up.

Wow, great lean -- those are my 2 for now. :)

Considering most prospects will rise and fall right up to draft day, it's still way too early to accurately predict who may be available. But the BB-type player is easier to find...and IMO both Nelson and Spencer have the character and work ethic that qualify them as Pats prospects.

Here's a worthy article about Nelson's hitting ability: Nelson's big hits wow teammates

And another about his value: Urban Meyer calls him an "eraser" who covers up teammates' mistakes

Here's a good story on Spencer:

"Anthony has had a great year," coach Joe Tiller said. "I think he's a national player, in the sense that he's achieved much more than just about any other defensive end in the country. He's playing as well as anybody. The biggest difference in Anthony Spencer this year is that he's been healthy. We just nominated him for an award for overcoming adversity. He's had several season-ending injuries, but this year he's been healthy and playing at a high level."
---

Also, I wouldn't rule out one of the many CBs in R1 -- there's a slew of them. :)

I didn't mean he's not physical - I meant that he's so physical and such a hitter I worry if his body will take the pounding over time. Compared to Harrison who's more in the 220 range. Admittedly, though, when making a draft pick lasting 5 years, the first contract, is all that matters because after that you're paying market value or losing the player. Like I said, I love Nelson and would be ecstatic to get him. He reminds me a little of Maroney on defense - just an infectious looking love of the game that can't help but carry over.

The dream draft would be to get him and either a Safety or CB, depending on how they like Sanders and whether they sign Samuel. With Wilson a FA after 2008 the timing would be perfect to replace him with a guy who might become what it looked like Wilson was on his way to becoming. Then add a 2008 replacement for Harrison or 2007 replacement for Samuel and the DBs will look a lot better for the future.
