2011 Free Agent "Let's Sign This Guy" Thread

Pats have a lot of picks, why not give up the 4th for Chad? If he keeps his mouth shut he should be a reliable receiver to get the ball to. Maybe even draw some double coverage. Tate didn't scare anyone going deep.

I'd much rather them sign a receiver who can do it all unlike Chad. Free agent wise the only big signing should be a proven WR who can immediately step in and be the #1 this team needs (Vincent Jackson, Sidney Rice, etc.). They should have other small signings like filling out the RBs beyond Woodhead and BJGE, but there's no realistic chance of them getting a guy like Nnamdi, Woodley or Ngata.

He's a FA.

I know it's a long shot but I'd pay this guy whatever it takes (within reason of course)

With him next to Vince, Ty and whomever else on the line in the 3-4 or 4-3, your run defense, pass rush and pass defense instantly become better.

Along with o-line help, that is what the team needs IMO.

Do we give Plaxico Burris a look? He's not a stretch the field guy and is 33 with rust and baggage, but he will be minimum-salary cheap and the deal could be incentive-laden.

Before you scoff, I'm thinking his 6'5" frame offers some possibilities with situational play-calling not there with the 5'9" gang or even the 6'1" OchoCinco.

It wouldn't be a good PR move though, since other than the gun issue I recall him having some domestic viloence issues too, so maybe no Plax but a receiver with his physical attributes could help in the mix.

Your reasoning is sound from a football standpoint, but I don't think BB would want a sketchy character like Plax around the kids.

He's probably gonna be the highest paid NT with his new contract. I'd much rather see how cheap they could get Shaun Ellis as he'd be a great veteran on the line who's still pretty good.

The Patriots have a very young team.

They should have a ton of cash, right?

It'll be interesting to see if they make a splash in RA.

I'd rather we get a WR who can really play than expending resources in the draft on that position. I'd like to see pass rushers and OL in the draft.

The truth is, if our entire draft consists of OLB, DE, OL, I will not complain, even if it means we cut half the guys because there's no space for them.

That's fine with me.

Hate to say it, but Plax is a perfect Jet.

I'm curious who folks think gets cut, and how, from the current Pats group if they go for a stretch-the-field WR. As it is you have a promising pick (Price) not getting playing time and I think a move will be made to get him on the field. At this point, I hate to say it, but the most expendable WR in the group might be Branch.

Keep in mind that the strength of this defense in the salad days was the front 7. Sey, Washington, Ty Warren, McGinest, Bru, Vrabes, etc.

I would welcome a cagey vet like Shaun Ellis to this team. Keep in mind he will be 34 years old at the start of camp. Hes short-term.

With that said, I'd still want Ngata. Brady is locked up. Wilfork is locked up. The rooks have 2-4 more years on their contracts. The team has a shutdown corner. Solid safeties. Cunningham will be fine. Mayo is outstanding. They are not far off.

Brady's window is 3-4 more years. Now is the time to act.

Not complain? I will be doing cartwheels! I would love to win the line of scrimmage all of the time and to pressure the opposing QB more than ours is pressured all of the time. Do both and I can't imagine, with our existing young and improving talent elsewhere, not being significantly better next year

I like this. Last time BB coached the Pro Bowl and came away with a Ravens free agent it wasn't exactly for the best, so he'll have that in the back of his mind. But this would be a nice use of the Moss Dividend.

I really doubt the ravens let ngata go. He's really important to that d. Probably about as good a chance peyton manning leaving the colts.

That would give the jets the biggest group of dbag receivers ever. I mean who else would they need? Freddie Mitchell? I mean at least Chad and TO don't get in trouble with the cops.

The odds of Ngata leaving BAL are slim and none no question.

I agree especially if the franchise tag will remain intact with the new CBA.

Yep. The only way BAL gives him up is if a team offers a pletora of draft picks. Like maybe a #1 and two #3s :D.

Even then I don't think they'd trade him.
