Coaches Corner: Billick & More Power Rankings

This list is B.S, two of the best teams with the best records in the NFL aren't on that list. Pats and Falcons should be on that list, but who cares its Billick and Mora, both which sucked as coaches.
I got a kick out of Tom Jackson last night saying the Jets had better wide receivers, better o-line, better running backs, better d-line, corners, ect. I would agree with the d-line, corners, and linebackers, but he is playing with himself if he thinks the Jets are better at WR, running back and o-line.

First I think this comparing squad by position or position group is an exercise in futility. Positions and position groups don't play one another so it is irrelevant.

Second, I think the Jets' personell are living on reputation over production. People still think LT is the same guy who started the season in 2006 form and not the guy who is playing like he did the previous two years as of right now. They look at Shonn Greene as the guy who ran all over teams in the playoffs last year, not the one one who runs for two yards and a cloud of dust right now. They look at this defense as the blitzing defenses of last year that gave opposing QBs fits and not the one this year that has trouble putting pressure on the QB blitzing six players.

Third, football won by the team and not the sum of its parts. If Super Bowls were awarded to the most talented team every year, the Redskins would have won a few in this decade and the Chargers would have at least three in the past decade.

Fourth, people are not giving any player on this defense any credit. You go other team's board's site and mention Mayo as a Pro Bowl candidate, they laugh at you. You say that McCourty is a DROY of the candidate, they joke about how many points the Pats have given up this year (as if the LCB is responsible for every point lost). You say Chung is turning into one of the better safeties in the league and scoff how he is just another in a long string of Patriots draft mistakes (they still think the last two drafts were busts too). If fans think that, you gotta think a lot of the talking heads feel the same way.

I agree. The Pats have been on national TV for the past 3 weeks and you would think that these same people are watching. I think alot of it is that they are in denial. Tom Jackson has no excuse, but he is a hater so F'em

In 2010, Holmes/Edwards/Cotchery is better than Tate/Welker/Branch.

Patriots are better at QB, TE, OL, and S

Jets are better at WR, DL, LB and CB

RB is a questionable call right now, with Thomlinson seemingly wearing down and Greene not getting it done.

Flipping through the channels yesterday and saw their top 6 teams in the NFL. Guess what the pats were? Trick question they were not. Their top 6 was:
Jets
Chargers
Saints
Steelers
Eagles
Ravens

Thought it was pretty amazing considering the Pats have a better record then 5 of the teams and have beaten 3 of them.

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense, does it - especially considering the Pats have beaten 3 of them.

Who cares? Mora and Billick are two unemployed idiots.

Billick's rant on Josh McD was insincere grandstanding. If he's going to talk about coaching integrity, he might want to look in the mirror - his star player was an accessory in the murder of 2 innocent people, a far greater sin that taping a friggin walkthrough.

Jets win more of the man to man match-ups, but big deal. What matters is the weight attached to the match-ups we win, which is a function of position importance and coaching (who can best exploit the advantages to put the team in the best position to win the game). Except for the fact that they actually keep score, these polls might be interesting.

Holmes and Branch are a wash. I would take Tate over Cotchery and Welker is the best receiver on the field and it is not even close. Braylon Edwards is very talented but he is a punk and not very productive considering his potential.

Holmes is much, much better than Branch. It's not even a close match. Holmes is a top 5-10 receiver. I'd be matching up Holmes with Welker, btw, as they are their teams' respective WR1s, and Holmes would be winning that comparison. Welker is still recovering from his injury and isn't back to 100% yet.

Branch/Edwards would be interesting to break down, although I ranked them as a pretty close match in my cursory comparison. Branch is clearly not as talented, but he's a great fit in the Patriots system, and he's been producing since the trade. On the other hand, Edwards has certainly had his moments, and he's stuck trying to receive passes from one of the worst QBs in the NFL.

Cotchery has been better than Tate this season.

Cotchery is still walking like Red Foxx at the moment.

Heard on WFAN while in the car today on my way to a meeting him being interviewed and he sounded like he's itching to get back and happy to participate in the practice yesterday. Didn't sound like he is ready to storm the castle though.

I listened to Billick's rant and was dumbfounded by his sudden integrity of the game. Yeah, you didn't film, which is a mark against the game as a whole, yet you let a FELON back into the game the very next game. Yeah, you sat next to a fan of football, didn't ya?
