Why do you think keeping the lesser player is a good idea?
Here's an attempt at figuring out what we have next season.
Patrick Chung - undisputed #1. Playmaker, monster playing downhill, gives the defense its identity. A fundamental tackler first and a huge hitter second, which is rare nowadays. Improving weekly.
Brandon Meriweather - Good center fielder, can close fast on other people's assignments. Makes mental mistakes too often. Has improved his tackling, but still takes some bad angles.
James Sanders - Solid, disciplined player who doesn't make mental mistakes, but has limited instincts and athleticism. Doesn't commit PI type penalties often. Vet presence.
Brandon McGowan - Strong in run support, strong on ST, big hitter, very physical with tight ends. Seems to struggle with wide receivers and zone concepts. Misses tackles too often when he goes for the killshot.
Jarrad Page - Small sample size makes him look like a solid all-around safety. Built more like McGowan than Sanders, but has better coverage skills.
Sergio Brown - Great on ST, has shown solid coverage and tackling skills. Could make someone else expendable, especially if he improves.
Josh Barrett - Dark horse candidate. Shrouded in mystery.
Bret Lockett - Looked like a total JAG early on. Journeyman who probably has no future here.
