Pryor fined 7500 for hit on Favre...

Pryor fined $7500 for hitting Brett Favre. Favre not fined for hitting on Sterger. National Favre League.

You must know, that you don't hit the media darling of the NFL and get away with it, even if the hit is legal.

Another concern I have is that with this fine, should Pryor have another questionable hit will the league look at him as a repeat offender, and be more likely to suspend him? Will the league look at the Pats as chronic offenders, and be more likely to suspend team members?

Surely some yahoo in the media will now say Pryor should have been suspended, and fans of opposing teams will rally behind him like the villagers in the original Frankenstein movie. If and when that happens, will the league feel more pressure to suspend the next Patriot that has a questionable hit, since they are so concerned with their public perception?

Bullseye.
I am beyond pissed at these implications.

If this is a finable hit, then the NFL needs to redefine the penalty as hitting the QB in the numbers. Favre was hit square in the 4. If it is illegal to hit a QB in the numbers, then this is a finable hit.

Or, make it illegal for defensive linemen to hit the QB, because they are too big. With a change like that, this is a finable hit.

Or, make it illegal for a defensive player to be hit with the QB's head.

Clearly it is not finable under the current rules, but could be if the rules are changed.

Why was this one not reviewed with the others?
Isn't this late for a fine?

I am embarrassed for the NFL office.

Or, make it illegal for a defensive player to be hit with the QB's head.

It IS already illegal for a defensive player to hit the QB in the head. The intent of the defensive player is irrelevant. If the defender hits a player in the head it is an illegal hit.

Sorry, but that is ridiculous. I hope he appeals it. I'd really like to hear an explanation from the NFL of what he should have done differently. If anything Pryor was trying to put his helmet further away from Favre's head before the tackle.

Remember this?

Also a $7500 fine (Chung was called for a penalty though). I just don't understand how you can fine someone when you tackle with your head up, feet on the ground and arms wrapped around the QB's waist.

Patchick is right that they seem to be punishing results instead of actions. The only difference between Ray Lewis being on the "do it this way" section of the league instructional video vs. the "we won't tolerate this" section is that Dustin Keller is 6'2" and didn't duck his head before the hit.

If you watched the video AND LISTENED to the audio. They made it very clear they are not going attempt to divine the intention of the defending player. If you hit a player in the head...intentional or not it is illegal.

Other Hits Gave NFL A Reason To Slam Everyone With Fines. It's A Joke! This Was A Clean Hit! Period! There Wasn't Any Penalty Called. Soon NFL Players Will Have Flags In Their Pockets And Hitting Won't Be Allowed. NFL Should Be Held Accountable And How They Determine Fines, Etc.

Kluwe was right.

Complete and total Bullshize!!

Pryor hit Favre in the chest, the impact caused Favre's head to snap forward, as Pryor's helmet slid up slightly, which created the helmet to chin contact. In other words, the league is fining Pryor, because he couldn't stop Favre's chin from whip lashing into the crown of his helmet..... Roger and who ever he's got working in this department need to go.

Just so everybody puts this in some context, the league is paranoid about concussions for a number of reasons: 1) New research has shown how damaging concussions are (most people already know this), 2) Congress (I believe) has leaned on the league to reduce concussions, 3) Knowing the effect of concussions the league doesn't want to take on liability for not doing anything to prevent concussions, and 4) The league is taking concussions off the table so that the union doesn't have any leverage or PR leverage on the issue during CBA talks. That's why we get the crazy rules, not because they make sense - it's all external.

This is essentially the same hit Vince was fined $15K for after also being flagged for it. I think it was against Buffalo, can't remember which QB since they change almost weekly up there... What Myron needs to to at this point is call Bianca. She will make sure they at least cut the fine and note the contact was incidental... Contact (ultimately) on this type of hit (which in and of itself is perfectly textbook legal) is almost unavoidable due to physics. But they have been consistently fining the incidental contact for emphasis.

Pardon me for a moment. Where in ANY of the replays do you see Pryor's head/helmet initiate contact with Favre's head/helmet?

Poor Brett favreThe nfl is turning into a sissy league and this hit was clearly legal.Goodell is an idiot now!

the tackle is under the armpit, but notice the Viking's blocker behind Pryor, pushing him to the right as they fall, making him go into the chinstrap for a glancing blow.

Bad decision to fine him

1) We all understand this. We are commenting on the stupidity of it.

2) They also said that teams need to teach the correct way to hit. The implication is that if you teach the correct way, you won't get penalized/fined.

3) Pryor and Chung did exactly what they were supposed to do. Head up, feet on the ground, arms in front, wrap up, drive through. Not only good form...absolutely textbook.

4) Watch the Lewis/Keller hit on youtube. Head down, arms back, launches up into the player. Horrific technique and that earns praise from the league.

I'll feel better if the league makes a statement describing what Pryor should have done differently. They obviously won't. You can't have fairness when you base discipline on results and not actions.

Not true. Some are claiming his head did not hit Favre's head.

Wow that's a stretch. And if BB was to teach proper coverages to our secondary the other team would never get a completed pass too.

Quite the opposite. If the rule was if the player intentional hit the other player in the head foul but does it by accident then it is not would be where you would have much greater unfairness, b/c then someone else needs to figure out what is going thru the defenders head. That rule would be very unfair and afterwards fans would be always claiming the other guy did it on purpose but their player did it by accident. This rule is extremely fair as it is quite simple. Did the defender hit the players head? Yes or no! End of analysis.

Der Furhrer should visit the Patriots and show them how to properly tackle...
with a DL wrapped around his waist...like 10 times in a row.

It has been a while since high school bio...but IIRC ones chin is consider part of the head.

Did your high school have an English Department?

Do you understand the word "initiate"?
