Pryor fined 7500 for hit on Favre...

Seems pretty bogus to me....

You clearly see his helmet hit Farve's Chest and then after intitial contact his body slid up into Favre's chin.

This to me represents exactlly what I was scared of when the new more intense penalties were put in place.

Since Pryor clearly hit him in the chest which is legal the only way for him to have avoided this fine would have been to not hit him so hard which is just bogus.

Is there any explanation as to why he was fined and what he should have done differently to avoid it?

HMMMM maybe that is something that should be mandated when a fine goes out (if it isnt already). Someone from the NFL should explain exactly what was illegall so that other players can see the example and then to take it a step further they should also explain what the player should have done instead to make the play or at least to avoid the penalty.

The rule is pretty clear.

And his helmet hit the players head.

I am okay with this. It is a pretty small fine (relatively speaking as NFL fines go) with no suspension as it should be given the lack of past offenses and apparent lack of intent.

If Brady had been on the receiving end the board would be going crazy for the lack of a suspension.

I'm not sure this is clear. From what I could tell Pryor got him in the midsection and Favre's shoulder pads jolted up and did the rest.

That is how you are taught to hit from the time you are little. Rap up and ride up. Favre got hurt because he stepped into the throw and his momentum was riding down. Nothing dirty about the hit.

The NFL needs a committe to decide on these dirty hits. The commishioner is out of control and has to much power.

Robert Kraft, WHAT were you thinking???
Agreed, but it what bothers me isn't Krafts initial backing of Goodell, but backing him for a SECOND time in voting to renew his contract. Insane, just out right insanity. Goody showed how inept he was in his first years as Commish.

The crazy thing is that the league knows it's BS, why else is the fine only $7,500 in the season of $25,000+ fines? Merriweather deserved to be fined, Pryor did not.

I find it interesting that the fine is 7,500 and not 75,000 like Meriweather.

Meriweather is a 7 figure player where as Pryor is a 6 figure player.

Not sure that there is anything to it but interesting.

There really should be a percentage scale based on pay and based on previous infractions as to how you are fined.

But not in this case as you shouldn't be fined for legall hits.

I don't think you can just point the finger at Kraft, aren't there more owners to blame?

Sorry, but that is ridiculous. I hope he appeals it. I'd really like to hear an explanation from the NFL of what he should have done differently. If anything Pryor was trying to put his helmet further away from Favre's head before the tackle.

Thanks for the pics to back up those who are saying that this fine is absolutely ridiculous. Goodell is absolutely putrid as a commissioner. I would appeal it if I was Pryor.

Then you didn't read the post i was responding to. And I agree obviously it took more than just BK's vote to keep goody. I think Kraft nominated goody originally.

But...if Favre's chin hadn't started bleeding, would the league have given that play a second glance? It seems to me that this is a fine based on the outcome, not the action.

Quite possibly. The league does not look at every hit. They do look at hits which draw a flag or in which the player leaves the game with an injury. This was the latter. So had that hit not resulted in a player leaving the game, it is possible the league would have noticed it.

Still wonder if it would have been such a severe gash if Favre wore a hard cup strap!

Check out the hit at 1:10 of the video on this page:

NFL Game Center: Minnesota Vikings at New England Patriots - 2010 Week 8

WHile you can't see the front of Pryor's helmet, it does show clearly the hit was chest high. And I think you see enough to see that, AT WORST, his grill MIGHT have slid up and MAYBE hit the chin.

(Edit: I see someone posted good pics while I was writing. Nicely done.)

When the league sends these fines, do they outline exactly what the player did and what exactly makes it a fine? If you're a coach and are trying to teach a young player, what do you tell Pryor NOT to do again?

Its a whip lash effect, Pryor hit him low enough but his favres head came back hitting Pryors helmet. Its physics

Pryor fined $7500 for hitting Brett Favre. Favre not fined for hitting on Sterger. National Favre League.

The league is now fining players for not being able to properly answer physics questions regarding velocities and vectors as they make contact on a perfectly clean hit.
Ha!

Very good point.

Another concern I have is that with this fine, should Pryor have another questionable hit will the league look at him as a repeat offender, and be more likely to suspend him? Will the league look at the Pats as chronic offenders, and be more likely to suspend team members?

Surely some yahoo in the media will now say Pryor should have been suspended, and fans of opposing teams will rally behind him like the villagers in the original Frankenstein movie. If and when that happens, will the league feel more pressure to suspend the next Patriot that has a questionable hit, since they are so concerned with their public perception?
