Best thing that has happened to the Pats in a while. All these guys who are so happy to be back or wish they were back, let's the rest of the league know that a good thing happens here.

After seeing the news that Mankins was due to report early, I was about to start a thread called "Moss, Branch, Seymour and Mankins". But you seem to have beat me to the concept.

Elite players who overplayed their negotiating hand with the Pats, and forced BB into ballsy and unpopular decisions that, in the end, look like master strokes of roster management. But in saying goodbye, BB has always left it on positive terms that is respectful and professional, and leaves the players looking back over their shoulders with remorse.

Don't forget Milloy, Law, Hobbs, Bledsoe, and that tiny but fast reciever, I can't remember his name for the life of me right now, but yeah, all of them had regrets at some point. I think the saddest was when Milloy was being interviewed during the pre-superbowl and he was almost in tears. Unfortunately, most of these guys don't realize how great it is to be on this team until they are gone. Call me a homer or whatnot, but the proof is in the tears of those that left on bad terms due to a few bucks.

The continual "high road", professional approach plays dividends for this team and creates a blueprint for success in the NFL.. unfortunately too many want to do it their way.

As simple as the give and take that BB has with Ocho Cinco every time they play pays dividends down the road... or as complicated for the continual the respect for the great players of the game as well as former Patriot players.

Despite the problems last year with Adalius Thomas, there were no harsh comments, just release him at the end of the year and move on...

Add Ty Law, Milloy and Terry Glenn to that list. At the end of the day they ALL end their careers whimpering about how they wish they had handled things differently and missed being on the Patriots.

I think it actually is beginning to dawn on players finally.

It's hard to ignore a trend that strong.

what about the expense., branch in 06 might have enough to push us to the SB... just saying.

even now we move vince to end and back and dl is up and down cannot say we cannot use seymour. seymour did recommend the pats to warren so its not like he had to go. In that deal BB even said the davis asked for vince and the price was too high and then davis inquired for seymour. so if davis would have given what was asked vince might be a raider and seymour here.

And I think the Vikes have plenty of guys who will be free agents next year. I'm sure Randy let everyone in their locker room know how good the Pats organization and fans are to players.

It's rather refreshing, actually. I'm getting tired of laughing at and feeling sorry for the cognitive powers of those who keep berating BB as some sort of idiot.

It's got to be confusing for them. Most of them hopped on circa 2007 and pretty much thought they were hopping on to a winner that has a dark, evil streak, and treats their players like crap, but still manage to win.

This is the first time since February 2005 that I've detected this level of love for BB. Sic gloria transit and all that.

I respect that Belichick was an economist in college. He understands the necessity for a plan to maintain a fiscal CAP projected several years into the future. As simple as that is many Coaches and Football managements never consistently adhere to such a course, if some even do produce a CAP budget projection. He builds a budget for the CAP and allocates a certain amount for each group of players.

Really good players want more money than he has to spend; he recognizes if he breaks the budget somewhere, he also recognizes the consequences that will have to occur somewhere else on the team.

Good players are egged on by their Agents to seek $x money, but if its too much more than Belichick has allocated, he simply wishes them the best and moves on.

All the players who left, usually left on fair to good terms, and have had recognized that the grass isn't greener elsewhere. I'm sure Seymour would like to return, if he could, just like Moss. Moss leaving was a business decision so that Moss would not look the fool for accepting less money. The Vikes unwillingness to affirm his worth only underlined that Belichick appraisal of his worth was more nearly correct. More importantly, it divorced the money business decision, from the personal love of playing in a competent environment, with good people, that Belichick goes out of his way to recruit for his team.

Good post, AZ but I'm not sure about Sey. He seemed pretty miffed and hurt when BB delt him. He seems to have kept quiet unlike Asante. I'd also throw him in as another disgruntled fmr. player.

Mankins is incomplete.
