Throwbacks ... red uniforms ... British redcoats
This.
We don't want the minutemen getting ideas there in the back of the end zone.

Just a head's up for those who don't remember the announcement. The Patriots will be wearing the 70's/80's red throwback uniforms with Pat Patriot for this weekend's game against the Vikings. They will also be wearing them on Thanksgiving when they play the Lions.
How can you hate on pat the patriot?
Easily. They lost more than won in the guy crapping - even counting the few good years and throw back times. How can YOU hate on Elvis?
Take off the nostalgia covered glasses.
Oh, at the time Grogan was hated. (Funny the power of Tony Eason.)
Except that, a LOT of American Militia units wore red coats during the war.
I'm a bit of a history buff and I've NEVER heard of this, anywhere. Please cite a source. The Colonial Army regulars wore blue. Militias were locally organized and did not wear uniforms. In fact, it would've been to their disadvantage to wear anything that stood out like that and would've made it harder for them to blend back into the population following hit-and-run skirmishes.
If the Patriots wanted to be truly historically accurate a la the "minuteman" image, they would've gone with a tan/brown/white/black color scheme. But blue is a lot more accurate than red for jersey color, as the enemy was closely identified with their red-and-white garb.
Here ya go. Just peruse through the pages (be sure to scroll down them too) for a number of red-coated US regiments, as well as all sorts of other colors too.

The Militia companies in each state selected their own clothing, but were also formed into regiments before being sent into State or Continental service and those regiments selected uniforms of a standard cut and color, if such were not already specified by the state regulations.
The only "regulated" blue coated regiments were those of the Continental Army, which was a very small part of Washington's army, being only those troops formed by order of the Continental Congress, and designed to form what would eventually be the Regular US Army after the war.

NEVER! You really like the Flying Elvis? Not me! They should bring back the throwbacks permanently!!!!!!!I love the throwbacks but 2x a season is a bit much. Once is plenty.
Go Pats!
Tunescibe, God love ya for your impeccable taste in music and all. And the fact that you run a mag about it blows my mind in ways only a few people are capable of grasping. You're a guy after my own heart more than you know, but...
Gez Tunescribe, don't cha know that nobody ever brought this up the entire time The Pats wore red between 1960- 1992? This Redcoat angle only surfaced in the last few years. I've been on board with the Pats since '79 at age 12 and never even thought of "Well, the British were actually The Redcoats, so it's dumb for The Pats to wear it".
Tunescribe,if the uniform was designed like a war jacket, then you'd have a point. You know, like this tee shirts that make it look like you're wearing a tuxedo shirt, tie, and jacket?
Tunes, it's a football jersey. It doesn't harken any similarities one way or the other.
The Pats throwback were the unis I fell in love with my team wearing. I had my little red Pat Patriot pajamas and sheets and everything. Bwah!
Now, go put on a nice 1972 Rick Wakeman sequined cape and get back to writin' 'bout Prog. lol. Or, at least a 1975 Gabriel bubble suit.
ima wear my nice rare 1985 Craig James #32 RED throwback tomorrow, k?

I like the red jerseys as well.
