Tyrone McKenzie and Sergio Kindle: a tale of two injuries

We've all been wondering that for years. I've been wondering how long Lewis will last since 2004. Ray Lewis is the Payton Manning of defensive players. I will no longer doubt him until he shows me he's done.

Ray Lewis looked like he was all of 35, and was nothng special in the Pats Ravens game. He is living on reputation now, nothing more...

Really? I read in loads of places, that he was overrated, and would struggle to play at a high level in the pros.

I would have never drafted Sergio.......... He seems really aggressive and he would fit right in on that D,

Julian Edelman begs to differ as he not only dropped a touchdown but left the game with an injury after getting lit up.

McKenzie, was a low 3rd round pick and Kindle, was a high 2th round pick thats a Big difference in money IMO the pats would have done the same thing

Most likely not. The patriots make these sort of work agreements with all their unsigned rookies.

The big difference is where the injury occurred. McKenzie is a workman's comp case, Kindle isn't.

Exactly. I have no doubt the Ravens were planning to take Gronk with that pick and got caught with their pants down when the Pats traded ahead of them.

The Ravens had already decided on selecting Kindle. If you remember the scene, The Pats made the trade for the spot higher and as the Pats representative tried to get Gronk's name (or the slip of paper with his name on it to the Commissioner), the Pats were a tad late. The ravens sent their representative rushing to beat the Pats because they were next. The confusion that ensued resulted in a minute or two delay in the choice of Pats announcement. But the Commissioner had the two slips in his hand at the same time. It would have caused quite a stir if the Ravens too had Gronk's name on their choice -- they would then have appealed the Pats delay or been given extra time. Neither happened. Baltimore wanted Kindle all along -- they got him. NE wanted Gronk....and the rest is history.

As freakish as the accident was, it didn't happen in a vacuum. A lot of us on the draft board crossed Kindle off our lists as wayyyyyy too risky. Before the draft he was reported to require complicated knee surgery, had a history of concussions, an ADD diagnosis, plus of course the narcolepsy that led to the accident.

You are right about savvy observers who warned about Kindle. But Kindle kept showing up on numerous draft boards as a first round choice. It was only after he kept falling that a number of analysts provided the fact that he MIGHT need microfracture knee surgery as a rationale. SDtill Kindle's selection by the Ravens was well-praised by all those who choose to grade drafts before the players ever show up with the goods on the field.

And there were a huge number of people on this board who kept bemoaning the lack of BB's selection of pass rushers. Now, after the sixth week, how do these soothsayers feel about Jermaine Cunningham. Then it was Jermaine Who??
