TO comes out in support of Moss

Re: T.O:"why does brady get a new contract and..."

TO was the guy who signed a long term lucrative deal with the Cowboys at around the same age as Moss (it was like 4 years for $8-9 million a year) and he was cut after one year into the year. And he is wondering why the Pats wouldn't give Moss a huge, multiyear contract?

Sorry, Moss wants a big mulityear deal and the Pats don't want to take the risk of him hitting the age wall the first year into it. There are already signs that he is no longer the player he was since he hasn't had over 75 yards in a game since mid-November of last year. When you are a deep threat, you can hit the age wall hard. If he was Jerry Rice type of guy who was more of a shorter route runner and a short to intermediate threat, you are more likely to last longer. The Pats weren't going to take that risk and it looks like the Vikes aren't either. At least not yet.

Re: T.O:"why does brady get a new contract and..."

Owens has a public, and a voice that most other Black NFL players do not. So, in a sense, he speaks for many of them, I'm sure. Wasn't Moss are only Black starter--on offense. I'm not saying I agree with him, but I think what he's saying is in now way stupid or inappropriate.

I'm with you on this. I suspect that the unspoken message here is something like this:

"Brady makes a contribution to the team winning and also acts consistently with white culture by not speaking out and by doing what he's told to do by his bosses, and he is rewarded by being given a new contract. Moss makes a contribution to the team winning, and acts consistently with black culture by freely voicing his feelings and opinions, and he is not given a contract and is traded. This is wrong."

Its one of several ways to view the situation.

I could be completely wrong, of course, because I can't ask Owens if this is what he means, so I'm just projecting.

fred taylor was what? asian?
kevin faulk?
i dont think race is a factor here
correct me if i am wrong but wasnt kevin kolb removed from the starting qb role in favor of vick in philly?and vick is black, so what do u have to say about that?
i dont think race is a factor in the moss affair.
if given a choice between extending brady and all the other players i am sure any true patriots fan would choose to extend brady first

True, but I guess I really meant that the offense is quite white, and all white, given injuries, at times. Besides, I do think this is what Owens, in part means, because he has pointed white bias out on other occasions--in terms of who gets attention and who does not.

Insanely stupid comments + piss poor grammar = awesome posts!

Thanks for making it even clearer by bringing in the cultural frame.

Re: T.O:"why does brady get a new contract and..."

TO putting his two cents is like the kiss of death. TO is a loser who is only interested in making money. Even at 38 or so he doesn't get it, its about the team not the individual.

Precisely! One would gather that at his ripe old age, he would grow up and gain some perspective.

I reckon divas must stick together. Whatever Owens...

Seriously, Rex Ryan, Revis and Sanchez need to shut their mouths.

TO should worry about his own team, they have their own problems.

Check out the Bengals' schedule after next week's bye:

Sun, Oct 24 - @ Atlanta
Sun, Oct 31 - vs Miami
Mon, Nov 8 - vs Pittsburgh
Sun, Nov 14 - @ Indianapolis
Sun, Nov 21 - vs Buffalo
Thu, Nov 25 - @ New York
Sun, Dec 5 - vs New Orleans
Sun, Dec 12 - @ Pittsburgh
Sun, Dec 19 - vs Cleveland
Sun, Dec 26 - vs San Diego
Sun, Jan 2 - @ Baltimore

That's nine difficult games for a team that has never shown that they handle adversity well, coming off of back-to-back losses to the Browns and the Bucs.

They might only win two of those games.

I view the situation like this: Money talks and bull**** walks. This is as racist as Stern's dress code of a couple years ago, which is to say not at all.

Sports is an area where production counts, where teams want to win more than anything else. People will always cry "Racist!" when they don't like something, but starting white players or black players isn't necessarily racist. Playing the race card in inappropriate situations is, IMO.

you do realize that quoting t.o. is like quoting a homeless bum. the dude's insane. never mind quoting him on serious issues like race. might as well be quoting hitler or stalin or dahmer or manson. worthless.

My parrot likes to watch football with me. When he saw Michael Irvin sit down with T.O., he acted agitated and squawked. When he heard T.O. question why Tom Brady got a contract extension and Randy Moss didn't, he got real quiet. Then, he started laughing. If you've never heard a parrot laugh, it's quite hilarious. Neither one of us heard the rest of the interview, we were laughing too hard.

Our apologies TO, the Patriots are clearly not the first class organization that the Bengals are.
