I went to explore the ruins in the region about 15 years ago. Tikal in Guatemala was my favorite. Yes, awesome indeed.

I went to explore the ruins in the region about 15 years ago. Tikal in Guatemala was my favorite. Yes, awesome indeed.

Tikal is amazing. We stayed in one of the on-site lodges and did the sunrise tour to the top of temple 5 (I think it was temple 5, maybe 4). Amazing experience trekking through the jungle at 4 am escorted by armed guards, and climbing the temple to see the sun come up over the jungle canopy. Lamanai was great too. We got there just as the monkeys were howling. It sounded like a zombie attack. Belize is a great country. We were only in Guatemala for 3 days, but it was cool too. Other than getting bribed at the border (we figured it out by the time we went back) and the crummy exchange rates from the money changers at the border. Always change money on the other side.
