If the stuff you write is "objective," I'm more than happy to be considered a homer. Maybe you should try it; you might not be so miserable all the time.

Who's miserable? I write what i see. The pats played awful on defense. I would love to say, 'hey, we played great both sides of the ball' but that would be a lie.

THe offense played great. Our running game ran all over the Bills defense. Granted, the Bill defensive line looked putrid, but we did what we should have done.

Loved the fact that Hernandez was utilized the way he was.

Also, Woodhead showed some speed and running vision out there.

The D is not bad. It is not good, but it isn't bad. Sort of like Purgatory. Glad to see Mayo get after the QB and get a sack. I realize Meriweather pissed BB off somehow, but he should be starting. Sanders looked poor and Page isn't ready yet. Chung was really good again.

If our offense can stay focused like that and Brady plays with ALL of his toys, the Pats should finish with 11 or 12 wins. There is no way a defense can cover Moss, Welker, Edelman or Tate, Hernandez or Gronk, and whatever RB is coming out of the backfield. I hope Brady learned his lesson after he was "debacled" last week in NY.

Overall, this was no suprise. There is a chance for winning next week in Miami, but I am doubtful. Road wins might start after October, but for now the D is still learning. I think Chad Henne will look like a superstar next week.

What's your point? Does that take away from the fact they dropped 30?

You are right....THIS is the BEST the Bluffalo offense has played in awhile.....and it was ON THE ROAD.... The only bright spot I can see here is that their D held the doofins to 15 points (can't recall how much of that total their offense scored?)

You're trying to counter arguments that you think are foolish by being even more foolish. You're usually better than that.

You know that it doesn't take a 'playmaker' to make an interception when the ball's overthrown and all but handed to the defender.

Maybe so, just trying to illustrate that the problems on defense don't appear to be a lack of playmakers.

Well, I'm not saying that the defense was good, so I'm not even sure what we're arguing about at this point.

Tremendous pass blocking from this line. Brady had a ton of time, and was able to hit a couple of longer throws when players ran down to the end zone, ran back to the line of scrimmage, then re-ran their routes. The sack was a pure coverage sack, with Brady checking off every receiver and holding the ball.
Pretty good run blocking, improving over the course of the game. When everyone knew they were running, they still created some holes. Nice showing by this offensive line.

Brady had a great game, but against a team with limited pressure.

BJGE's best game in a long time. Didn't see much from Sammy Morris, which is a concern. Woodhead is a nice tiny player. I don't want to see him picking up the blitz though.

Two INT's, which is great, but neither was an athletic jump-the-route play - both throws were to the defender by an inexperienced below-average QB. Put the INT's aside, and there were real problems with the secondary. Once again Meriweather appeared to free-lance, and took himself out of the play. On the CJ Spiller play, he was lined up over Spiller, who was wide to the left with a receiver inside, covered by the corner. On the snap, Meriweather read a play to the receiver and moved inside the receiver. Buffalo threw to Spiller who swept in across the outside.

When Butler was in, he also took the wrong line to a ballcarrier, opening a big gain.

Arrington looked pretty good, especially on that great pass-defensed in the endzone.

Tate was a bit up and down, but definitely took a step toward contributing on defense. Too bad about the fumble.

Both TE's look like improving weapons, picking up the third down slack.

In general, you can't look positively at giving up that many points to the worst offense in football. Great example: CBS shows the stat showing the Bills have failed to convert the last 40 third downs of 10+ when the Bills had a third & 18. And the Patriots allowed an open player downfield, and three defenders bounced off each other, tri-whiffing on the tackle. Even Sanders had a big whiff on a ball carrier.

You are a milk glass half full kind of guy.......and may not be seeing the D for what it really is.......WEAK.... You have to be realistic here blackglass....this D is NOT GOOD and probably won't be until a year or two from now....when they all get it together....I think you are right tho.....Pats are going to have a very tough go of it next week against the doofins.....don't see us winning that one....

Kontra....anyone who thinks that this is a GOOD defense.....is a true rose colored glass wearing homer.......Be realistic my friends.....We have a terrible D this year....

We could still develop as the year goes on. Anything can happen. But based on what we've seen so far, our defense is awful.

The pats played awful on defense.

It's not the whole defense. It's the secondary, mainly. And in particular, the RCB.

Edit: it would be a pretty decent defense with Bodden in there.

Outstanding game by BJGE. He deserves a game ball. Not just 16 carries for 98 yards, but on the last drive he had two carries up the sideline and did not step out (that would have stopped the clock). That is smart football.

He also has proven to be a legitimate outside running threat. He had a few bounce outs for serious gains.

I agree. Smart running by him and he kept the clock running by staying in bounce...... he did not stupidly go for extra when he could have by running for a few more and out of bounce. He played very well. Smart guy

<3 Hernandez and Gronk.

TFB was impressive.

I realize Meriweather pissed BB off somehow

BB kept Meriweather in even after his mistake on the Spiller TD, so I think he'll be okay. Meriweather is head-and-shoulders better than Sanders or Page at this point, and I'm sure BB is well aware of it.

And of course the defense will remain subpar because these kids are stupid and completely without football skill, talent or instincts. We're 2 and 1 and clearly doomed.
I left the game thread at half-time because the kvetching and whining was hurting my ears.

I don't know what games you've been watching, but Buffalo will probably be in contention for the title of "NFL's worst team".

They'll be among the worst, but I've seen much worse so far. The 49ers don't belong on a football field, for starters. The Redskins are so bad that they're making the Rams look good. The Lions are terrible. The Cardinals and Panthers are garbage.

Don't get me wrong, the Bills are pretty bad. But let's see how Fitzpatrick plays out before we declare them the worst team in the NFL, which is what the poster who I was replying to said. They've played 3 tough teams and been in 2 of the games until the very end.

I don't know....name one above average player on this defense not named Wilfork.

The offensive line has been a bright spot for this team. No matter who has been in there - they have looked good. Great pass protection for Brady, giving him the ability to have time to make throws like he did today (the one to Hernandez and the second Moss TD stick out as examples of this).

That being said, the secondary could not cover a D-3 college team. Butler is clearly in the doghouse, was shown not appearing to listen to BB on the sidelines on the broadcast....he may be very limited for the rest of the year. And Kyle Arrington? Please...

Bodden and Warren, but they're both injured.

Mayo
Meriweather
Chung as he's played so far

There are others but that's based a lot on potential than anything else.

McCourty, Mayo, TBC, Meriweather, Chung. All above average, to varying degrees. None of them are elite, though, that's the real issue. Not having Bodden and Warren hurts, it's quickly becoming apparent how little depth we had behind them.

Yeah, I am sometimes. But where you say WEAK I say still learning. They are insanely young. At latest this D is kicking ass and taking names by Kickoff Weekend 2011 (if there is one).

It would help if we have a consistent pass rush. We could protect our young guys back there if we have individuals who can generate consistent pressure or have a blitz package that can keep QBs off balance. We don't have any of that. Fitzpatrick had time to throw the ball back there. Even if we had Ty Law and Tyrone Poole, if the pressure isn't getting to the QB, they're going to complete passes.
