Buffalo? Anyone want to talk about the Bills game? Buffalo?

Seeing how we are now closer to next Sunday's game than last Sunday's game, I figured it may be worth bumping the one and only thread on the first page of this forum - that was just one new thread away from dropping into the never-to-be-seen-again land of page two and beyond.

The Jets game is over and cannot be undone or restarted.

It's time to start thinking and talking about the next game. It's a sixteen-game season, not a two-game season.

Remember when Buf was the measuring stick with Jim Kelly...times change do they.

In case anybody is actually interested in a preview of Sunday's game, here's one from Tedy Bruschi and Mike Reiss:

New England Patriots must win mental battle against Buffalo Bills - ESPN Boston

Mike: The other area we'll be watching is how the Patriots fill the Kevin Faulk void. I think it will be a combination -- some Sammy Morris, some Aaron Hernandez, maybe even some Julian Edelman. I'm interested to see whether the Patriots limit their use of shotgun snaps, which is a big part of their offense. The initial forecast indicates rain could be coming Sunday, so this might be a day to get that running game going. I like the Patriots 30-13.

Tedy: I look at Buffalo as a perfect back-on-track team, which is exactly the medicine the Patriots need. A win over the Bills would give them a little momentum going on the road to Miami. I like the Patriots to win by three touchdowns. Even though I have Fred Jackson as a running back on my fantasy team, I think I'm going to bench him this week.

I disagree that Buffalo is the perfect team to play this week

This team needed to play a top notch team this week to see if they can overcome a loss to a division rival....this game proves nothing IMO

The character of a team will show if they bounce back with a win the next week after a hard loss, but I wish the opponent were a better one.

Three members of the Buffalo media give their opinions on the pats, along with a prediction from each on the outcome of Sunday's game:

The two reporters on the left and right of the guy with the mic looked like they didn't want to be there, depressed over having to cover the Bills?

Yeah but at least it will give everyone something to feel good about, right? There's no chance that we lose to the Bills, they will be picking 1st overall in the draft

The guy on the right, Jerry Sullivan, is basically the dean of Buffalo sportswriters and commentators, frequent guest on radio shows. He has better things to do these days--Sabres season is about to start.

Why is everyone predicting a blowout? I think the Bills might be a more difficult matchup than people realize; I wouldn't be at all surprised to see it come down to the last possession, and that wouldn't mean that the Pats are terrible. It's just that the Bills' secondary is good, so we might actually have to run the ball to win. I could also see the Jackson/Lynch/Spiller combo giving our run D fits. Luckily, their offensive line is terrible.

With Edwards being benched already, and Fitzpatrick being a textbook JAG, and I don't see them being able to exploit our CBs, so we should be able to sell out against the run. Chung will come up for run support an awful lot, and that will help to disguise the weaknesses that we have along the line. I expect a Pats win, for sure, but I'm not going to assume that we'll go out there and crush them.

I expect us to win pretty handily (not necessarily a blowout, but a game where I don't feel too nervous throughout), but you're right that winning by a slim margin doesn't mean we suck. It's a division game, which are always a little whacky. Besides, the Dolphins only beat them 16-10, so it's not like we'd be the only division contender to struggle against them.

Considering you beat us in 2 games last year by a combined 8 points, I can understand why you would be so confident. :bricks:

The Bills will lose but it will be a lot closer than you think.

Oh God, not this again.

Disagree

This is a young D team. They need to learn and acquire confidence by successfully executing what the coaches tell them to do. The Williams are the perfect foil for this. Let the kids face the tougher offences after they've had a chance to mature. Last week proved they're not there yet even for a modestly disfunctional O never mind the epic fail encountering a 'top notch' rival early on.

2001 Pats were 0-2 with a game 2 loss to the Jests. Needed several more games to fully gell by December. It's SEPTEMBER.

I like you. You're funny.

I'll say one thing about this game: If the Patriots lose, the season is in deep, deep jeopardy. How's that for pressure? I expect the Bills to bring everything they've got. Fans are seeing this as a layup, but I see a potentially frustrating nailbiter.

"A potentially frustrating nailbiter?" Nah. A big snooze fest is on the way with the running game featured to get away from the duck and chuck crap that Brady was doing in the 2nd half. Woodhead gets a touchdown this week.
