Schefter: Public appology broke down Mankins deal

Mo's posts are easy to understand. You just take whatever the Patriots public relations department memo would be on the issue, and you've got Mo's position.

Ah, when you have no objective reasoning to use, just fall back on the old tried and true "koolaid" deal.

That's the comfy way out, Deus.

Enjoy the game.

The more i think about this the more absurd it its. Kraft demanding a public apology and mankins turning down a ridiculous amount of money.

Talk about stupidity....mankind is an idiot, but that's no way to run a football team

Everyone loses, but the pats ol looks good

Mankins should make a Public apology and quit being a prick. Your a MILLIONAIRE DUDE! Get over yourself, we don't need him on this team we are up 17-0 on the bungles and look very sharp.

As far as I care, I hope he sits at home and watches his team all year. He's being selfish and self-centered because of his pride.

Who cares....the suggestion by the pats is no way to run a football team

Since we know he apologized privately doesn't it mean he apologized publicly?

I was thinking something similar. The leak could be a way to bridge the gap.

Also, the whole thing isn't quite as crazy as it sounds. Often, when one apologizes to a wife or girlfriend, it's along the lines of "I'm sorry that you feel unhappy because you got all upset about something when I didn't do anything wrong in the first place."

It's tough to get that tone into the text of a public apology.

Given Schefter's track record, I'll trust that his report is accurate.

Actually, I'd say that his report is precise, but its accuracy (i.e., whether that's what the Patriots actually said) is, without input from the Pats, a question that cannot be settled.

Man, those 0 sacks on Brady today sure made me miss Mankins.

This is absolutely ridiculous. Ok, Mankins was in the wrong, maybe, but to make him apologize publicly to sign him is petty at best.

To those who are saying our OL was great today; yes they were, but I have a feeling any OL would have looked good against today's Bangles. We will get a better idea next week. Not to mention, how long before Neal goes down and then what? My heart was in my throat when I saw him being looked at in the sidelines today. Anybody who has watched the Patriots for a few years can tell you that an injured Neal out for a few games is as certain as death and taxes.

And what does demanding a public apology prove?

You are a homer

He publicly insulted him he should publicly apologize, that said Im not sure I believe this story 100%, some details are missing. JK said his dad never talked contract with LM.

An accurate account of what was told to him. But that doesnt necessarily mean it is an accurate representation of the facts. Big difference.
The credibility of the report is only as good as the credibilty of the source.

Mankins had ALREADY made it public by calling the owner a liar in the press!

What do you not understand about that?????

You actually believe that Kraft wanting him to CLOSE THE BOOK on his slander in the same place that HE OPENED it is "going public"???

You must think that the whole incident began at the meeting where they discussed the apology. Incredible.

The whole point that you're failing to understand (I have to think it's intentional at this point) is that the team is supposed to be better than that. Sure, the players can go to the press if they're disenfranchised. That's one thing. But the team has prided itself on fixing these issues behind closed doors. That's been the status quo since Belichick came into town. That's why asking for a public apology, when a private one had already been granted, seems to be the antithesis of the "Patriot Way" to me. How you're failing to understand that is beyond me.

Sounds to me like the report it true, and my hunch is that Jonathan Kraft is the one behind the Pats position. He's furious that Mankins would question his father's integrity.

Bad move letting business get personal. Pats are in the wrong here.

if the report is true, i have lost a lot of respect for mr. kraft today. if the man gave a sincere apology in private then demanding apublic one is nothing more than petty, spiteful and immature at best. at worst it smacks of "master" mentality. its a business and if things were said you don't like, well grow up and move on. for a team that keeps their business private why now the public apology? maybe the players should talk more openly? bet you wouldn't like that! why hurt the team just because your feelings are hurt? act your age.

I think it was Jonathan that said saying things to the press is one thing but mankins crossed the line by calling the families integrity into question. Now before they fork over 35-40 million dollars I dont thinks its too much to ask to set the record straight.
I still dont believe we have the whole story.
