OT: Jets Owner: Revis unlikely to sign before start of season

No way. Even if they could pull it off, what's in it for the Jets? Occam's Razor: HBO picked the Jets because, on a team with this many prima donnas, it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that at least one of them would create outrageous drama. Between Revis, Braylon, Santonio, LT, Bart Scott, Cromartie, Rex... someone was bound to pull a stunt. The bet paid off.

I'm willing to bet the farm that Woody and Tannenbaum went to HBO and CAMPAIGNED to get their team on "Hard Knocks."

I'm checking the Internet all day hoping that Revis hasn't showed up yet.

Just curious if there's a certain time deadline or is it midnight Eastern time? anyone know?

from what i understand,HBO tried to get the jets on the show last year, and the jets declined.

Haven't had the chance to read the entire thread yet, but didn't Woody Johnson tell ESPN yesterday that he wouldn't be suprised if Revis was playing somewhere else by 2011? I heard that today but haven't been able to find it anywhere.

It's getting juicier:

"We asked, through his agents, whether he wanted me at that last meeting on Friday, which I would have gone up to . . . [and] we were rebuffed on that," Johnson told Michael Kay.

Schwartz claims that an offer never was made. In strong terms.

"It's a blatant lie," Schwartz told me by phone moments ago. "Not that Mr. Johnson is lying, but his information is incorrect. I've never rejected an opportunity to meet with Mr. Johnson.

I don't remember hearing that, and I did listen to the interview, but I hope he did say that hahaha

i am willing to bet that somwhere there are blue goats roaming free, its easy to bet on things when we will never able to know.

but surprise, we do know!
read this part and the bold section where you see that HBO asked the Jets more then one time to do the show and were refused the first time
HBO president of sport Ross Greenberg is a long time Jets fan and tried to get the team on the show before and they refused.

TJB: How did HBO Sports & NFL Films decide to choose the New York Jets this year?

RG: With Rex’s personality and everything else that was going on it seemed like the perfect time. The arrival of veterans like Jason Taylor and LaDainian Tomlinson to the team, along with how the season ended for the Jets last year? It emboldened us to ask again, and based on the finish of the season, that seemed to play a part for the Jets. With all the national attention and the national coverage that seems to be coming to the Jets right now, it was the right time. It just seems like the Jets have arrived.

he never said that, he said that he wont be surprise if Revis sit out the season but never said anything about playing for a different team.

i am willing to bet that Revis will never miss a game this season.

That's not what he said either. He said that he doesn't think Revis will play this year.

So, just to get you on the record, since the Patriots are in a similar situation with Mankins...

Do you think the agent talking about a "blatant lie" is going to speed up negotiations or something?

Not that you asked me but,,

I see it as they are now negotiating through the media. So in essence they are continuing to negotiate and in fact things are heating up. That is a good thing.

Calling the GM a liar is a good thing? It sure as hell wasn't a good thing when Mankins did it. And negotiating through the media is what two sides do when they both know that an agreement is unlikely, and they both want to save face. Going through the media is never as productive as just speaking directly to one another.

i think this specific agent has a history of bad blood with the Jets and he and his clients were removed from the team in the past.
he thinks that based on Revis ability and popularity(which he didnt had with his former jets clients) he has a chance to get back at the jets and making them pay big time for the disagreement they had in the past.

so i wont take his word for it.

Your bets are worthless.

In case you've conveniently forgotten, you'd brashly stated that Revis would be signed before now. Remember? (Lame excuses to follow)

ofcourse my bet is worthless, that was my point...(just read a few posts eariler)

i dont have a lame excuses, i belived that Revis will be resigned(or reach some kind of agreement) within a week into training camp.

i was wrong

in my opionion(which might not mean anything to you,but it is my opinion) Revis can gain nothing and lose a lot by sitting out, i belive that when time is running out and the season is on the line he will get over himself or the bad advice he is getting and will come to play.

He was scheduled to earn 1.092 million this year and guaranteed 20 million over the next two years. If he holds out until/unless he gets $15 per, and he doesn't play until next year, he'll still come out way ahead financially. I'm not sure why you would think that's following bad advice.

if he holds out the season and doesnt play he will not get paid(and get fined btw)anything,
if there is a lockout next season(good chance there will be)he will not play and not get paid,he will still have 3 more years left on his contract, nothing has changed.

knowing young athlets(and Revis is a young rich athlet) i am sure he made commitments,he has money obligations and i dont belive he can go so much time without getting paid.

these guys get paid millions but they also spend millions, from financial point of view i dont think Revis can efford to not to be paid for the next couple of years.

and by the way since he didnt report to training camp the 20 million are not guaarnteed anymore.

This is not completely accurate. His contract is a buy back deal.

No offense, but you have no basis for this assertion regarding Revis specifically, so using a broad spectrum is useless..

I know that. It's part of why he's better off waiting for a better contract deal. He'd now be returning to a $1 million dollar contract with no further guarantees. Why would you think he'd go that route after willingly passing up on the guarantee aspect of his upcoming seasons?

Exactly this- everytime people talk about how Revis' leverage is gone, this is what I come back to. He has even less incentive to report now than he did before: what makes people think that he will suddenly give up?
