Logan Mankins: 'I want to be traded'

That was the first thing that stood out to me BSR. If the Patriots hadn't addressed Mankins' contract demands then he wouldn't be crying like a baby over it not being the size that he and his agent wanted.

When you sit back and evaluate it at all... Mankins' story just doesn't stack up.

I have no problem with him saying he wants more money. That's his prerogative and don't blame him for wanting what he thinks he deserves. I just don't think he is going about it the right way.

If he has in fact been offered what's been reported then I think that is more than fair value for Mankins. If he wants to get more money then you are quite right he is going about it in a strange way.

The crux of this is that Mankins has drawn a lot of factors into this discussion by questioning the Patriots administration in not honoring their commitment to him by extending him. The reality is the Patriots appear to have remained true to their commitment to Mankins who doesn't like what's been tabled to him. If the Patriots reneged on their commitment to Mankins, then he wouldn't have the opportunity to question the contract. He'd be questioning why he wasn't offered the contract extension.. not the size of it.

There's no conclusion other than Logan Mankins has made an absolute arse of himself in a public forum for all to see.

Sometimes I don't know what planet you live on. Tom Brady and I both live in the real world, albeit on different streets. We've often been pissed at the fact that many people we believe we are of at least equal value to get paid more than we do for reasons totally beyond our control. We now welcome Logan Mankins to the real world where nobody ever said it would be fair. You should try joining the majority us there sometime...

You note that you've often been pissed about it, and I suspect that you didn't have a million dollar gap to bemoan. That's really all you had to say in order to answer the question.

Yep. In his context, there is no market value, just one contract to compare to Mankins. Top five money is irrelevant. It's quite simple, actually. I'm embarrassed that it took me so long to realize it....

It's called context. Do you need the definition for that, too?

Straight up guys, it comes down to this...Do we want to sign our HoF QB to the big bucks or do we sign a top 5 in his position, guard the big bucks.
This is playing out a lot like the Seymour situation. BB knew he wasn't going to be able to keep both Big Sey AND Wilfork. Since Seymour already held out and proving to be a general pain in the neck while Vince just kept working hard and did a decent job of not bringing the media into it, it was an easy decision when Al Davis offered that draft pick.
I think Mankins will not be signed and he'll play else where. Then you can look for TFB to be signed rather quickly thereafter (I hope) and that would be great news and well worth the trade off.

I hope they can then look at offering Moss another 2 years.

I said we should trade him pre draft. I was called a scum bum and a troll by the cognescenti here.

He's the bum if he thinks 7M a year is lousy.

Now we'll have to firesale him to someone.

I guess his worth will be diminished greatly as no one wants to give up draft picks AND pay a huge salary.

Time to see if Orhnbust or bussey-bust are any good. Or maybe throw light or kaczur in there and hope for the best.

well, it depend how the 7m/yr was stipulated. if the deal was backloaded with 20m in the last 2 years, then its not really a 7m. yr deal. couple that in with what was likely low guarantee numbers, and you have what you have. I am sure he would not be putting up a stink if he was getting 60% of the $$ in the first 3 years ala evans

I don't care who is on the right side or wrong side in his contract dispute, SHUT UP and don't wash your laundry in public. I thought Logan was more grounded than that.

This! <realtalk>

Well, yes and no. Yes, the o-line is better with Mankins than without Mankins. But if indeed the Pats end up without him in 2010, you move Kaczur to guard. Vollmer is an upgrade at tackle over Kaczur. Kaczur's biggest weakness is moving side-to-side against speed rushers; that's not a problem at guard. In other words, the downgrade at guard is not as dramatic as some think it would be, as he has the size and strength to play guard.

That leaves depth as the next question. At tackle there's LeVoir and there's Connolly first off the bench for the interior line. LeVoir is healthy, Connolly has enough time in Dante's o-line school he should be ready. It's not quite as dire as some are making it out to be, though I'm sure somebody will accuse me of drinking too much Kool Aid.

We don't know yet how the line will respond without Mankins, he hasn't really missed many games since coming here. So I wouldn't assume they'll be able to plug someone who's unproven at the position and it won't make a major difference. We've already seen how different the line looks whenever Neal has been injured. Logan's talent could be replaced, but most of this line has been in place for the past 5 years and he's been one of the rocks. It may not end up being as dramatic as we think, but until someone actually steps into his role and shows he can play with the other 4 this is a concern IMO.

Playing hardball with the Pats front office is like announcing your a gonna commandeer a submarine when Steven Segal is sitting next to you? It's not going to end well for you.

Ooo, an Under Siege reference. What a dolt film that was. See that? These kind of culturally challenged jock morons are an occasional source of amusement for me 'round football sites. A freaking Steven Segal nod? Christ, time to go to the art house and watch some Fellini or Goddard, methinks. Raise the dolt bar a tad higher and broaden your horizons next time, please.

Whatchoo Talkin' 'Bout, Kontradiction?

Logan who?

Well I hope we trade his ass and he fails miserably wherever he ends up.

And Deus whats up with you these days, its like every thread I read you are taking the opposing argument to the majority?

Couldn't hurt. I suppose describing your absurd context perfectly means I don't understand that word too.
