Hurley: Don't count out Welker in 2010

Are you sure about that? Is that the only tendon he tore? I don't remember; did he also tear the MCL?
The MCL heals by itself and would have been healed by the time he had the surgery as he waited about a month, as is typical.

Yep, waited for it to heal up before they went ahead with the ACL surgery...

Welker surgery is Tuesday - The Boston Globe

MCL tears also require knee immobilization...which is what they would have to do with Welker anyway due to the ACL tear surgery. Either way, it was taken care of on its own.

Ok, so this probably means nothing, but I thought it was kind of interesting so I'm passing it along.

Do you guys know who Maria Menounos is? She's like a pretty famous TV personality, from the Boston area, huge Pats fan.

Anyway, she Tweeted this a few hours ago:

@mariamenounos Hung out w/my patriots-vince wilfork, tom brady and wes welker...wes says he's healed and ready!psyched!!

Like I said, I'm sure it means nothing, but I think the reports of him being out for the season are a little premature.

"healed and ready" for what?

I don't know if he said it to her on the record or if it was a private conversation they were having. Either way, if Welker's recovery is going better than we all think, I'm happy not to know. Let all our opponents prepare as though he won't be there. Fine with me!

Not to be too optimistic, but it's not like we ever even got any kind of real confirmation on how severe his injury was and we certainly can't believe ANYTHING we read, hear or see from the sports media. I think it was right about this time last year the rumors started that Brady would be out for 2009. So we'll see...

are you telling me I have to trust intommywetrst?

Of course you should trust me!

The link to her twitter is right there. Can we trust her? Who knows, but I don't know why she would lie...

That's just stupid but I've argued about this enough.

That's one month later than Edwards' return, meaning it's only "stupid" if you don't bother looking at a calendar and don't understand that the extra month still exists.

But you're right in that this has been gone over enough. He'll be back, or he won't. I'd certainly love for him to be ready by game one.

Edwards had the surgery a month before Welker and played in a game a month before Welker would need to if he played on opening day.

You do the math.

You do the math.

If an exhibition game was the exact same thing as a regular season game, and if the training schedule during the exhibition season was the same as the training schedule during the earlier portion of training camp, you'd have a point. Since those things aren't identical, you don't.

You do the math.

a = b
aa = ab
aa - bb = ab - bb
(a - b)(a + b) = b(a - b)
a + b = b
b + b = b
2b = b
2 = 1

:rocker:

A preseason game is pretty close to a regular season game in terms of playing in one. You need to run routes, take hits, etc. It not regular season but it's way closer to regular season than, say, non contract training camp drills.

I think Welker will play Week 1. But even if he sits out a week or two or even four until the bye and returns Week 6, I consider that to be very conservative but it still gets him back playing earlier than if he were PUPed and he can practice the whole time too.

Regardless, I still say that Edwards shows the timetable is there for a Week 1 return - as long as there's absolutely no set backs.

Dues and Belichickfan you guys should stop arguing because Maria has all the answers and she says Wes says he is ready so no need to argue about week one he is ready now. It has to be true because I will follow anything that is said by someting that hot.

That logic's as good as any other....

As for BF and myself, it's really just a question of how much he's translating Edwards' situation to Welker's. He's assuming that Edwards was ready to go far enough in advance of the season that the month difference in time isn't significant. I'm saying that he's making an assumption that we can't verify, so we shouldn't be counting on it. It's a minor thing, but this is the offseason.....
