Draft Day 3 Thread

If they think that tate is coming back, there is no need for a WR.
Not only no need but no room.

Moss
Welker
Edelman
Tate
Holt
Price

That's 6, no room for anyone else to make the team unless you think Holt won't make it or Welker is gone for the year.

Time to move to other positions, the above is our WR group this year.

So, if you look at some scouting reports and comparability, we basically have added Jason Witten and Dallas Clark at TE.....I'll take that!

I agree. Sapp's knee scares me to death though. That being said, I'd still take a flyer on Selvie in the fifth.

This draft's depth is absolutely ridiculous. Some players going on the fourth round would probably be high second rounders in some other years.

The Hernandez pick also makes us less predictable out of two TE sets. Last year when we went with two TE, you knew we were running most of the time because Baker and Watson didn't contribute much.

It really is crazy. I don't think I truly appreciated the "great depth" talk until I watched the draft play out over the last 2 days. To see guys like Griffen, Wooten, Mike Williams, Hernandez, etc. going in the 4th round is crazy. All of those guys are extremely more talented than your average 4th round guy.

Dolphins with a trade from the Cowboys. This should be interesting. I bet it's a pass rusher.

NEED is part of the VALUE equation they use. That's never been denied.

You've never denied it, but plenty of others have!

Looking around at pre-draft "NFL comparisons" for Hernandez: Dustin Keller, Dallas Clark. Interesting kind of player the Pats really haven't had at all.

You might be right. I heard the same thing on WEEI earlier this week. Tate and Mckenzie are two gray areas on this team. NO One outside of the Patriots organization know how these guys have progressed in their rehabs. Maybe these guys are ready and we just haven't heard about it. Just a thought.

I agree that need is part of value. However, here we did NOT draft for need. We waited for these players, even though we had the need. We drafted the #34 player at 42 and the #53 player at 113.

NEED is part of the VALUE equation they use. That's never been denied.

At least.

QB - clearly space for a third That depends on whether they view any of the guys better than Rowe or Stanback.
RB - need another third-down back Is there really room for one?
OG - Competition for Connolly's spot Connolly is a JAG. That means he's fighting for his spot every year. A definite need, but is there anyone left that they value higher than Connolly??
OC - back-up to Koppen

DE - huge need Agree
OLB - huge need Not as big of a need if the Pats feel that Crable and Cunningham are enough to compete.

P - Aussie rules?

Not sure if there is room for a 3rd down back.. With 5 RBs on the roster in Faulk, Taylor, Maroney, Morris, and BJGE. They could use a short yardage back more than a 3rd down guy.

100% correct Rob....did anyone read what Mayock wrote.....

"
Mike Mayock, NFL Network
The Patriots just took their second TE of the draft. Their second-round pick, Rob Gronkowski, is an excellent in-line blocker and a talented pass receiver. Aaron Hernandez is one of the most physically gifted H-Backs in the draft. He's a move guy that will cause mismatch problems in the middle of the field. I love these picks.

Gotta link? I couldn't find it on nfl.com

d%#*!@t.. the Dolphins grabbed AJ EDDS.. I wanted him for the Pats..

Love it.

edds to Miami
several posters had him being drafted at 119 to us

A lot of teams are going to get their drafts rated at A when it's all over. This was a very enjoyable draft.

Dave Thomas fits that description.

can two 7s be traded for a 5th, this draft is so crazy you can get impact players in the 5th.

There are still a few good recievers out there like Carlton Mitchell, Shay Hodge, Blair White, and Scott Long all who I think could push a guy like Patten off the roster.

... and there's 7 picks left. The MASTER plan.

The Pats really need to get a pass rusher next...

Only 1 of our 7th round picks can be traded, and our 6th can not. If the pats trade up significantly, I'd expect players and/or 2011 picks to be involved.

We should rename to the New England Gators this year. Haha...
