I don't expect a very happy board after the draft

Ordick will be a bust. Tebow will be a four year down the road possible TB replacement who can learn. When Ordick is dealt for a fifth rounder in 2013, Tebow will still be a Pat IMO(DISCLAIMER).

I still can't get my mind around drafting a quarterback to possibly take over as starter 4 years from now (given the curious assumption that Tommy will be gone in 4 years). So not only do we pass up a player who can contribute to this team over the next 3 years and sign Tebow to a significant contract, but in four years, Tebow is an unrestricted free agent and we have no clue if he's a quarterback we can win with.

If Tommy today gave a press conference that he was 100% sure he was retiring in 2014, I still would advocate waiting until at least 2012 to draft his replacement. It's not like the next couple of drafts aren't going to have quarterbacks in them.

BB has been re-building on the fly since 2006. There are a lot of young players just growing into their own. Sooner (I hope) or later, they will mature and join the older establisihed pros. Peopel forget it took Bruschi into this fourth year before he became a star starter at LB.

Players like Volmer, Ohrnberger, Tate, Levoir, Ghost, Edelman, Hoyer, Maroney on Offense; and Mayo, Pryor, Wright, Ninkovich, Crable, Guyton, Merriwether, Butler, Wilhite, Chung, Wheatly and McKenzie on Defense.

Not all these guys wil pan out; some will fizzle, but others will step forward to join those on their way already, like Mayo, Ghost, Meriwether,Volmer, and Wright.

I think the "least consensus ever" goes hand in hand with "most will be unhappy." There are simply too many options for everybody's wishlist to be checked off.

That said...I hope (and mostly believe) that we won't see too much outrage over things like "I can't believe they chose Jerry Hughes over Sergio Kindle!" There's total disagreement here over the candidates at each position, they can only choose one at a time, and they have a lot more info than we do.

Tebow, I think, is a different case. That's not about player evaluation so much as long-term strategic direction. Oh, and if they pass on ALL of the pass rushers AGAIN, I'll lead the whine parade.

I agree, I hope we don't see a ton of complaining over which OLB or DE we get as long as we get one. I'm a die-hard Kindle fan. But that Pat Kirwin mock that gave us Dez Bryant and Jerry Hughes was more than fine with me.

Like I said earlier in the thread, this isn't like past offseasons when we needed a young pass rusher because of age at the position. We need a pass rusher now because we need pass rushers. So as you say, if you're leading the whine parade if we pass all together again, I'll be in the float right behind you.

If BB trades out of the first round and doesn't get at least a low second and a third I will a steamed clam!

I expect the Pats to trade down if their # 1 guy isn't on the board whom ever that is. They also want a third round pick and maybe a 5th that they foolishly traded for Burgess not too many people are talking about this trade but it might be the worst in the BB era. If they still had these picks imagine what their draft board would look like and imagine in such a rich draft if they had taken Oakland's 1st this year which the Pats turned down. I not only think they need a pass rusher try two of them and I am tired of hearing that BB knows more about football than the normal fan but i always believe what my eyes tell me and for the last 4 years they have needed pass rushers period. It doesn't take a genius to figure it out instead of leaving your db's covering for 5-6 seconds which is unheard of in this league and if your not going to go the free agent route then draft them they have had more than enough picks over the last 4 years. The 1st four picks in any order should be DE, LB that can rush the passer a WR over 6'2" with speed and a TE like the kid from Florida, in know circumstance should Tebow be in any of their 1st five picks.

I think the depth of the draft is going to make it almost impossible for the majority of the board to be happy with who we pick up.

Has nothing to do with the draft's depth, as there's a lot of doom and gloom folks who inhabit this forum.

It seems that in a lot of the mock drafts that have been posted, especially with the top 4 picks, just one "bad" selection has a lot of people calling it a total failure because of who else we could have taken.
Clear signs of binkyosis.

One thing I'm certain of: we cannot draft Tebow and have a happy board, period. I think we could land Alex Carrington and Brandon Spikes with 7th round compensatory picks and it wouldn't be enough to stop the uproar over a wasted pick on Tebow.
Who?

There's just too much talent this year. The Pats can't reach, they can't take a luxury pick, they simply can't "miss" whatsoever before Day 3. (even then they better get it right)
Unfortunately, some fans don't wait for the draftee to don the uni before they start hollering. Let's at least get them on the field first.

In time, this draft class might prove to be a great one for us. But with what I've seen on this board, I doubt it will be considered a great one on Sunday morning.
Well, if the draft thread resembles the game threads...:ugh:

Chin up...:singing:

Not even close. He traded picks just last year for guys whom he cut. At least Burgess could be trusted to put on the field.

From every report I saw regarding that trade, their choices were a 2nd rounder in 2010 or a 1st in 2011. Now, if you believe that they'd be better off with another early 2nd round pick in this draft than an unknown first rounder next year, when there will probably be a rookie cap, that's defensible. Most people would disagree because they expect the Oakland pick to be top 5 next year.

Those guys really don't grow on trees, especially ones that can function in the Belichick 3-4.

Actually I think a lot of guys that are passed over by BB could excel in his 3-4 defense. The problem is two fold.

1.) He prefers veterans. (In 2010 we must have the oldest RB stable and oldest set of WR's in all of football.)
2.) His lack of effort in developing young OLB talent, means he must use veterans exclusively.

The smart move is to draft two developmental prospects that he can grow/spot start into capable 3-4 OLB's.

Well, I would agree with that somewhat. He doesn't seem big on keeping OLBs on the roster long enough to learn and develop, although Crable might be an exception. He kept Redd for a little while. Nobody else, save for Woods, has stuck around long enough to get the reps in, and I think Woods' special teams ability is what is keeping him on the roster. It does seem he'd rather take a linebacker that somebody else drafted and gave a basic understanding of linebacking in the NFL, so that BB can just fine-tune him to the 3-4.
