I'm tired of hearing that we have 12 picks in the draft. Saying this implies that we might add 12 new players to the 2010 roster. We have 5 picks. 5 picks and 7 Hail Marys.

all of them are hail marys we have potentail 12 new players on the team no matter what we can pick 12 people which is why we have 12 picks

True enough that all of them are less-than-100% sure things. But some of them are closer to 100% than others.

Yeah, let's not consider all those late rounders as real "picks". Who cares, it's not like someone picked after the fifth round can ever contribute anyway. For example, look at Tom Bra...oh..

The Patriots had 10 rookies on last year's opening day 53, not counting Brandon Tate (PUP). All told they ended the season with 14 rookies on the payroll (including IR and PS players).

In this deep a draft, I wouldn't surprised if we ended up with a few Edelmans/Pryors/Ingrams.

it's the draft every one is a Hail Mary, but i think it's safe to say that the first for picks should make the team. but i have to say most of the pats 6th and 7th round picks turn out better then ther. 2th and 3rd

the pats are very good at drafting in the late rounds so i wont count out any of the pats picks

Where do you people come up with this crap ? We have 12 picks. Some will be traded, some won't make the team, some might go on the PS or the "redshirt" squad. But, yes, we have 12 picks. And for a team that frequently has an UDFA make the team they are all viable possibilities to make the team.

Psst...6 of the 7 players the Patriots drafted in the 5th-7th rounds the past 2 years are currently on the roster. That's a heck of a Hail Mary percentage.

12 picks means 12 chances to land a player, be it a highly touted 2nd rounder or a Pryor or Edelman. They all matter.

Please start better threads.

Not so good before last year with some ahem notable exceptions.

But they were very good last year and you have to wonder if the difference is the departure of Pioli and the influence of Floyd Reese. The timing could not be better; the best draft of the decade; 4 picks in the first two rounds and an improved draft team. I certainly hope the Patriots make the most of it and do not fritter away their picks in trade; it could be a landmark draft.

I guess Tom Brady and Troy Brown were Hail Marys too

What a dumb ass thread :bricks:

This is the stupidest thing post I've ever read, with no offense the author.

With that said, saying that the Patriots have 12 picks MAY imply to YOU that 'the Patriots' might add 12 new players to the 2010 roster and you can view that as 12 hail marys or 5 picks and 7 hail marys. What IT IS say is that there are a total of 12 opportunities out the total 255 slots to select players that are eligible in the 2010 draft.

I remember a waste and a Hail Mary a few years ago as well....that David Givens bum

I think we should donate all of our 7th round wastes to the Lions or Rams

Add Troy Brown, Tully Banta Cain, Dan Koppen, and Matt Cassel to the list. Cassel, thus far in his career, was the third best QB of his draft class and he was snagged in the seventh. Brown was snagged in the 8th and was arguably top three in his class.

Also, ask the Colts' fans how they feel about Pierre Garcon (7). Also see Steve Breaston, Marques Colston, Houshmandzadeh, Terrell Davis, Jamal Anderson, Frank Wycheck, Marc Bulger, et al.

This is a pointless thread, a horrible way to look at the draft, and full of idiocy from all sides.

For those of you naming off 10 people who worked out or played from the low rounds, you do realize they are the clear minority.. right?

So yeah, Tom Brady from the sixth round really worked out. But he's just one guy. What only works out a small percentage of the time? A freakin' Hail Mary.

Some of you are embarrassing.

And there I was thinking we'd had picks taken off us again :confused2:

One more time: 6 of the 7 players the Pats drafted in the 5th-7th the past 2 years are on the current roster.

You don't have to have a spectacular "find" like Brady to make productive use of a late pick. A Myron Pryor, Jake Ingram etc. helps your team -- and certainly counts as a draft pick.

There really should be some kind of filtering system for new threads or even new members.
