this is the way i see it he can't handle criticism. the fans seen him as the pass rushing savior. and BB signed him cause he could cover and play both inside and outside LB.

now he is 32 years old and playing on a D line that dose not have seymour, on it anymore. he is not going to beat a OT to the QB a whole lot. so when the fans and the media. got on him about it and he could not handle it.

so he went to BB to tell him he dose not like he's roll in this defense. and BB said shout up and do your job you do what i tell you to do. im trying to win games not get you stats. and AD did not like it.

bottom line is he will be cut after the draft. i can't see him playing for the pats anymore.

Thomas was paid $13M in 2007, $9M in 2008 and $2M in 2009. That's $8M a year for his three years with the patriots. Not bad money of you can get it!
================================================

2010 was always a time of decision. His salary plsy workout bonus is $5M for this seson and $6M for next. There is ZERO chance that we are paying him that, and almost a zero chance that he and the patriots will settle on a more reasonable salary for his services tothe patriots.
==================================================

He's gone. Statements by him and his agents are statements of those looking forward to his playing on a new team.

Interesting article. The therapist issue is one that could potentially come back and bite the team in the ass with future free agents if it's not addressed.

That is if it is even true. In this day and age, teams are not that stupid. Not with the lawsuits that can easily go flying around.

As was pointed out by Patsnutme, Thomas has as much responsibility in that as the Patriots. And if he really felt that something was wrong, he should have called them. On top of that, I question what he said.

Adalius Thomas said:
I don’t think you’d send somebody to rehab their shoulder with a massage therapist, or a knee to a massage therapist. She was a doctor, but the person responsible for my physical therapy was a massage therapist?’’

First off, how many people did he actually see at that facility? One or two?

You don't need to have a doctor's license to be a massage therapist. Also, there are massage techniques used by physical therapists to break up scar tissue.

It's clear to me that AD didn't tell the whole story about what happened in Tampa. And I think he did so just to paint the Patriots in a bad light.

Whose kidding who? If what Thomas says is true, he would ahve filed a grievance by now.

He mentions getting a gameball vs. Atlanta, then benched 3 weeks later for the Tenn game. The stat line for the Atl game isn't particuarly impressive (4 tackles, 1 assist), but I can't remember that game too well...was he just glued to Tony Gonzalez the whole game? Or was the game ball maybe a positive motivational tool, which BB then deemed didn't work after the Balt and Denver game and had him resort to the benching?

Thomas is gone. When it gets to whining and escuses, especially at his age, it's over.

I'll say what needs to be said here. The Patriots have the best coach and organization this decade. Their recent signings of Wilfork and Bodden are where true leadership comes from.

But...

They screwed up on turning over the linebacker situation. February 2005, Bruschi has a mild stroke, June 2005, TJ retires. Ted Johnson retired 2 days before the start of training camp. Which was in LATE JULY. And it was because he couldn't pass the physical because of the number of concussions he'd suffered.

That retirement was treated as a shock, but i don't know why. If anything, it should have been a call to action. In the five years since then, Beisel Brown etc., the pats responded two years later putting all their chips on one roulette number, expecting a vet with some mileage to play everywhere at LB, at the same time to groom a whole new linebacker corps, while also grooming, but subordinating to, the new appointed leader, a rookie. WOW.. They were so bad expecting Thomas to do for them what he'd been doing for the Ravens. Playing at Multiple different LB positions.. Umm.. Newsflash, Bruschi was still here for a year with Mayo..

That's a pretty tough inside straight to fill. Outside of Rodney Harrison, few vets would be up to such a task.

Did they have bad luck? On the contrary, I would say they had incredibly good luck finding a vet LB pushing 40 with the ability and enthusiasm of Seau. Patch patch patch...they need to build.

At this point, having made do with backups in starter roles, they should have developed some good depth with Guyton, Woods, TBC, Nink and Burgess, if he stays, so one stud at OLB and a smart vet to team at ILB would give them a good corps, I think. On to the future, but we could have done better the last 5-6 years IMO.

For you foreign film fans, Junior Seau continuing to give Father Time the beating of his life.

Coulda.. Wouldaaa.. Shoulda...

First and foremost, Ted Johnson retiring right before the start of training camp was a surprise.. Why it was, I don't know.. But they clearly expected Brown and Johnson to be the starters inside with Beisel learning. That didn't happen.

We can go over again and again what the Patriots should have done, but the reality is that there are huge blocks of information that we, as fans, aren't privy too. Such as the interviews that are conducted with players by the coaches. Such as what goes on in the film room. The player attitudes and how they respond to the coach.

People criticize the coach left and right, but the reality is that we fans aren't the ones who have to work with these guys day in and day out. BB and his staff are.. And if they feel they won't be able to work with someone, why would they bring that person in?

It was a surprise. Actually, Bruschi returning and playing as long as he did was more of a surprise.

Players get old and injured, it happens.

Either way, that was almost 5 full years ago, which makes me wonder why you bothered posting that.

My point is simple. The team put a lot of pressure on two players to completely turn around the LB corps. This is unlike the way they operate at other positions.

[By the way, I copy pasted the wrong date. Doesn't change my point. Johnson retired right before camp, which was a surprise. A shock? How long had it been since we expected a healthy Johnson to show up? The previous year was the first complete season since 1997. If anything, Bruschi, Seau and the, post 2006 bad back, Vrabel gave us more snaps than we might have expected.]

Even with the Browns problems, most of those players didn't file. Filing the grievance if the exception, not the rule.

Frankly, I don't even understand what he's saying here:

'He wondered why he was not directed toward proper therapy in the first place.

“I think that sent a hidden message to me because I don’t think certain people would get that same treatment. I don’t think you’d send somebody to rehab their shoulder with a massage therapist, or a knee to a massage therapist. She was a doctor, but the person responsible for my physical therapy was a massage therapist?’’ he paused, folding his arms on the table and running the fingers of his left hand along the damaged arm.

“All the things were right, [but] there was probably so much more I could have done. She did what she knew to do. It wasn’t her fault; she was doing a favor. The favor didn’t work out for me.’’'

What's the "hidden message?" If he knew the care was improper or inadequate, why didn't he see his own doctors or file a grievance? Or at least complain to the FO? Was she a physician or a massage therapist or were they two different people? And who was doing a favor for whom and what was the favor?

Either he hasn't got his story straight or SMY hasn't written it very clearly.

the hidden message was that tom brady got the best doctors that boston has to offer witch is some of the worlds best. will he got a realy good nurse.

Re: Adalius.

Glad the FO realizes the pass rush is in shambles.

Re: Adalius.

You're thinking about it the wrong way.

1) What happened to make Adalius less productive?

2) What happened to make Adalius unhappy and stop putting as much effort in?

1)Age and Money

2)The big contract

If this puff-piece was written as a means to gain favorable public opinion, then neither Afailus nor his press agent, SMY, accomplished their impossible mission.

“Anybody that knows me personally knows that I’m not a bad person. I haven’t had a problem in the 10 years I’ve been in the league; I haven’t had a run-in with any coach."

That's not surprising, when one considers that his coaches have been inmates-running-the-asylum enablers like Marv Lewis, Brian Billick & Tubby Wrecks.

“Am I a ‘yes’ person? That’s not me."

These are exactly the words to expect from someone who's never been told No. Amazing.

"During the infamous Snow Day episode, when Thomas, Randy Moss, Gary Guyton, and Derrick Burgess were sent home for being late for an 8 a.m. team meeting because of winter weather conditions, Thomas’s quip to the media about not having a flying car like in the “The Jetsons’’ to float over the traffic was taken as flippant, though he said he was trying to be funny; his comment that “motivation is for kindergartners, and I’m not a kindergartner’’ was seen as disrespectful.
He acknowledged he could have expressed himself in another way, but his frustration was born in part out of an inconsistency in how such situations had been handled throughout the season."

Pardon my ignorance, but what other situations? If you can't - or won't - be more specific, then this excuse hold no water.

"The worst was in Week 6 last season, when Thomas was benched for the Patriots’ game against Tennessee. The morning of the game, linebackers coach Matt Patricia — not Belichick — told him that he would not be playing. The staff thought he had performed poorly the previous week in a loss at Denver."

That's because he did perform poorly vs. Denver, but are you implying that he didn't? Now you're being either blind, or complicit. Either way, you've lost credibility.

"It isn’t clear why the Patriots haven’t released Thomas."

Really? What's so unclear about it? They haven't yet released him because they don't need to release him, yet. Hello?

I don't know whom I respect less: a shill for management, or a shill for players; but SMY has chosen the absolute wrong player for whom to be a shill. And she's lost a lot of respect from me in the choosing.

Like I mentioned in another thread, maybe she's hypnotized by that thing on Afailus' head, and she's now forced to do his bidding.

I look forward to hearing what Bill has to say after Thomas is released. I could see a question about Thomas being similar to when Belichick compared Casserly to a meteorologist.

Also, we saw Brady and Belichick come to Moss' defense when the media criticized him. Where's Thomas' defense from those guys? That should tell him a lot about what his teammates and coach think of him.

You really do wonder what she's thinking... It's shades of Jackie MacMullen doing crossovers like her Asante tome as her print career wound down...Or Wrong chasing that elusive BB myth killer...

Curren apparently got a kick out of her breakfast meeting on the road too:

"All the things were right, [but] there was probably so much more I could have done. She did what she knew to do. It wasn’t her fault; she was doing a favor. The favor didn't work out for me."

So, wait. They sent him to a doctor near his home in Florida. That doctor then referred him to a PT place that had a massage therapist working with him?

Or is the massage therapist an M.D.?

And, if "all the things were right," then what the hell is wrong?

I put a call in to the Patriots to try and get clarification and am waiting to hear back, but this is the same ridiculous, eighth-grade, excuse-making this guy's been doing since his Humble Pie T-shirt biz didn't take off.

Curran: AD orders up another round of whine

Re: Adalius.

BTW, Adalius is probably in crisis mode because he knows that the Jets' aggressive pursuit of Jason Taylor means he isn't likely to go to the Jets after he leaves the Pats. He needs to convince another team that he is still a good player and a victim of a coaching staff that never gave him a chance.

he will have no problem getting a roster spot.

It seems pretty clear over the years of interviews and snippits... which are the only information we are privy to. He thought coming in he would be playing OLB just like for the ravens and would be ripping it up. Instead BB saw a guy who would play OLB but also be perfect for SILB. Adalius didn't like it. In his own words he said it took a large toll on your body. I basically think that was the situation which answers your two Q's.

SMY usually writes much more clearly than the garbled tale recounted in this piece. In fact, I admire her reporting for the most part, but obviously AT not only hypnotizes her, he makes her stupid because she seems to be uncritically repeating his moronic dictation.

I like SMY but you nailed what bothers me about SMY's perspective in this piece. Yes, a reporter's job is to get the behind the scenes story we can't get. And directly antagonizing your source is counterproductive. But the slightest, respectfull counterpoint would have been redeeming in this story. That's the problem.

Re: Adalius.

He might be able to find a job at the veteran minimum somewhere without a problem, but teams won't be knock each other over to get him. He is a loudmouth, unacheiver well on the wrong side of 30 with declining skills. See how well that has worked out for TO this offseason.

I don't know if anyone other than the Jets would be all that excited to pick him up and if they get Taylor and/or draft another OLB, he will become unneccessary.
