Re: Adalius.

BTW, Adalius is probably in crisis mode because he knows that the Jets' aggressive pursuit of Jason Taylor means he isn't likely to go to the Jets after he leaves the Pats. He needs to convince another team that he is still a good player and a victim of a coaching staff that never gave him a chance.

Re: Adalius.

Is this guy a 5 year old? He goes to Fla for treatment, he get a message therapist instead of a PT. Did he make calls to get it corrected? He didn't say he did.

If it would have been me I would have called. When I had back problems I changed PT's on my own because I thought I wasn't getting the right treatment and I was right. I don't make millions and AD could have afforded to go to a PT if he thought that would help him get back right.

He sounded like a whining little kid. I was hoping that they could fix his problems. But now I'm hoping to get a 5th rounder for him.

Re: Adalius.

This article was a strategic ploy by AD in an attempt to accelerate his departure from the team. Now he is saying that he didn't get the proper rehab on his arm b/c he does not have "preferred" status on the team. Amazing.

The Pats and AD need to speak at some point. Would not be surprised if it happens this week. Pretty clear that he will not be paid $4.9m by the team and just as clear IMO he will not be with the team in 2010.

According to AD, if he is holding true to looking out for himself, I'm sure Bus Cook has stealthy spoken to other teams and has posed hypotheticals such as, "if a OLB from the NEP was released, would you consider picking him up?". This is important to consider as the Pats will try and get something for him on draft day, but the other team will demand a renegotiation of his current contract. If AD is unwilling to do such (because Bus told him that X team would pay such and such), the Pats will release him outright after the draft and AD will sign elsewhere.

I can understand AD looking out for himself (for those of us in the working world with families, we need to) but if you choose to work somewhere, you give it 100% effort and make every effort to be part of the organization (team player, do your job, work hard, etc). As Mo gracefully articulated in his post, it seems AD's makeup and what the Pats expect from their players was a behavioral mismatch. Whether he chose not to perform or can't perform at a high-level is debatable. Maybe in the right system or role he can still do well. Who knows.

Time to cut the chord and losses. Both sides need to move in. It will happen. IMO, both sides are trying to maximize their potential compensation. Pats with picks/players and get out of paying and AD trying to maximize his next contract and get in a good situation with another team.

I think while AD is bright in the football sense, he's not necessary street smart. He will be 33 when this season starts. He's not going to get a chance to maximize another contract. He will be lucky to make the $11M remaining on this deal if he signs with someone else for 4 years, which would be about the max years he'd get if not for the fact that facing a lockout it's unlikely any team will offer him a long term deal. More likely he's facing the kind of deals Taylor and Vrabel are looking at. $2-3M per tops and little up front. He's vindictive and he's looking for redemption more than anything. Bill isn't generally vindictive except to mediots. Players he tends to cut a lot more slack. However under the circumstances, particularly given the uncapped season, AD could be cruisin' for a glimpse of the vindictive Bill...or at the very least the stubborn and determined one like Milloy grappled with. I don't see him being released until Bill has exhausted all options, and that could go right up to the first week of camps to see if someone develops a desperate need for a 3-4 LB. There will be a lot more call for those with all the teams in transition to the 3-4. Some of whom haven't met a potentially talented malcontent they didn't think they could handle...if he appears to remotely fill a desperate need.

I remember reading the staff thought he had a horrible game the opener vs. The Bills and I believe I have heard Adalius concur he did. So I'd suspect the Atlanta game ball was because he finally rebounded in game 3 with a decent game so they were optomistic he was coming around and gave him a game ball. When he reverted to form against Denver, he was benched. In reality, it was one good game at the start of the season, the rest bad.

But of course Adalius spins it his way into "what????? one bad game????" when he himself has acknowledged at other times that wasn't the case at all.

Good article. He's a goner. Too bad--he seems intelligent, but a casualty of his own "me first" attitude combined with the Pats' loss of Bru, Vrabel and Rodney to reign him in.

I still haven't given up on the guy. Would just love to see him come back and show he wants to play and then do it on the field.

This loser talks better than he plays. He whines more frequently than he makes impact plays. That's the problem.
If there were ever an athlete that I wish could be buried at the end of a bench for the duration of his contract it's Addie Thomas.
Sadly his contract won't permit it but I'd love to see this loser made an example of.

Interesting article. The therapist issue is one that could potentially come back and bite the team in the ass with future free agents if it's not addressed.

He needs to go. Not only was he not productive enough in the defense for the money he was getting paid last season, but he's not worth the headache either for $7 million per year. Even though it would just open up another hole on the defense, I hope he gets traded on draft day or released if we can't find a trade partner.

Re: Adalius.

I think we do know what went wrong only we didn't want to assume it was true so we treated it like media bs.

Holley has remained tight with Rosie since he retired and Rosie said that AD was problematic from the get go because while he's smart as a whip he is also entitled and entrenched from his days in B'more. A place where talent kinda did their thing and spoke their piece. Baltimore chose not to retain him in his prime. There has to be a reason. Ray threw him under the bus. There probably was a reason for that too. My guess would be he saw coming here as his opportunity to shine, to be our Ray. Ray calls the shots in B'more. When he got here he had to be tag teamed into drinking the koolaid and being part of a unit and a scheme by the backerhood. Bill calls the shots here. He listens to input from his players but he values it based on their track record of unselfishness. He wasn't listening to AD, in fact he was making demands of him he wasn't prepared for when he signed on. Even simple things like working out. Felger has a source who claims Bill walked through the weight room during his first season here and said deliberately within earshot of AD "this is what we paid millions for?" AD denies overhearing that... Players will tell you to a man that you always know where you stand with Bill, unless you just don't want to acknowledge it.

AD eventually became the Player Rep. I think Bill resents time spent on other activities on his nickle, and moreso when it's a guy he feels isn't truly earning his own keep... Most bosses probably feel that way. The proverbial you know what hit the fan when in the midst of generally disappointing season AD missed the meeting after the meeting where Bill asked them ALL to be early and stay late from here on out because the team was struggling to find it's stride. Not sure if Bill was the one who informed each of those players they were dismissed for the day as a result. But he was the guy who informed AD and he didn't tip toe around it. He reportedly told AD to "get the F out of here". In turn all AD could muster is dropping a dime on his girl SMY and pointing out all his legit excuses (caught in traffic, called ahead...dog ate my homework). He could not bring himself to say NO EXCUSES, I blew it when my team needed me to step up. It's about accountability here. AD has repeatedly stated he has not talked to Bill other than in meeting rooms since. He does not understand why he should have to be the initiator. He isn't going to own up to his own shortcomings on the field or in the locker room. Bill can be pretty forgiving as long as he believes he's getting a guys genuine best effort. He obviously doesn't believe he's ever really gotten that from AD and he isn't remotely getting it any longer, let alone when that guy is undercutting his authority. End of discussion as a result.

Now we have the further embellished rationale for how it all went wrong per AD. He didn't lose his job because he didn't earn it, he lost it because they inexplicably became disenchanted with him. Poor guy. Makes perfect sense if you're self absorbed and in denial.

Not a teamate past or present mourns his passing or offers support for his predicament (beyond Bart Scott). That tells you all you need to know. He was never the elite talent he projected to be when surrounded by a collection of elite talent. He was just a cog in the wheel. Both the player and this FO miscalculated his value as a result. Only one of them is prepared to admit it and walk away as a result.

He'll be gone when it suits Bill. No rush because of a no cap season. Might as well dangle him as long as you can since he won't show before mandatory veteran mini camp and they can easily sit him for that based on this interview alone (concern for his still aching wrist). They can probably sit this guy well into TC if it comes to it. They rolled the potential injury dice with Milloy at a time when the cap made that a huge risk. If he wants to play he won't mess with injury. If he does he can go on IR and be cut at the end of the season or request an injury settlement. If he's here for camp they will probably demand a restructure. He can then agree to facilitate a trade or demand his release after Bill lets 31 other teams know what he feels he's actually worth...

I recently saw something (forget where) suggesting AD was late CONSECUTIVE days.

You're right about the BB wisecracks; indeed, BB early on used to razz him during film sessions or something with "We backed a Brinks truck up your driveway and this is what we got?"

Let's not forget AD made up and passed out the Humble Pie T-Shirts. He tried for a while to fit in before giving up.

On the whole I agree with your take.

Thomas is quoted "If you have something that you want me doing, that’s fine. But coaches are going to do what’s best for the organization, or for them. At some point you have to look out for you, so the only person that’s going to do that is you."

It is clear from his own words that the team doesn't come first for him.

Yeah. The all feel that way about money -- heck, Rodney Harrison preached the point to the youngsters.

But AD may have played not to get hurt (more) rather than to win the games.

He only gave in because of peer pressure. Once his peers were gone, the charade was ovah. Rosie's Mom was a world class pie baker. He probably gave him the recipe to channel his frustration...

I'd argue that because of his poor tacking, lack of a pass rush, and uneven performances last season, he was a hole in the defense regardless. At any rate it's a position that needs upgrading.

I also remember AD saying that the broken arm wouldn't have been so serious had he not decided to play the rest of the half in that game.

Thomas is gone. When it gets to whining and escuses, especially at his age, it's over.

I'll say what needs to be said here. The Patriots have the best coach and organization this decade. Their recent signings of Wilfork and Bodden are where true leadership comes from.

But...

They screwed up on turning over the linebacker situation. February 2005, Bruschi has a mild stroke, June 2005, TJ retires.

That retirement was treated as a shock, but i don't know why. If anything, it should have been a call to action. In the five years since then, Beisel Brown etc., the pats responded two years later putting all their chips on one roulette number, expecting a vet with some mileage to play everywhere at LB, at the same time to groom a whole new linebacker corps, while also grooming, but subordinating to, the new appointed leader, a rookie.

That's a pretty tough inside straight to fill. Outside of Rodney Harrison, few vets would be up to such a task.

Did they have bad luck? On the contrary, I would say they had incredibly good luck finding a vet LB pushing 40 with the ability and enthusiasm of Seau. Patch patch patch...they need to build.

At this point, having made do with backups in starter roles, they should have developed some good depth with Guyton, Woods, TBC, Nink and Burgess, if he stays, so one stud at OLB and a smart vet to team at ILB would give them a good corps, I think. On to the future, but we could have done better the last 5-6 years IMO.

For you foreign film fans, Junior Seau continuing to give Father Time the beating of his life.

This guy is a whining b**tch. If he had or has a problem then go talk to the coach man to man. He seems like the type who has a lot to say whenn BB is not in the room. But clams up when he is. Make him wait, then send him to pergatory. He was made to look alot better on that great Ravens D, then when he has to be the man.

AD strikes me as a lip-service kinda guy. I guarantee BB has confronted him, talked to him, tried to get through to him and AD promised compliance and then do a complete 180.

Most likely.

Some guys, AD apparently, are high maintenance. You can talk to them and seemingly get acquiescence, but once even a short time passes they default back to the bad behaviour. It's too high a maintenance cost in time and effort for management to ride herd constantly. When running R&D last I had a guy like that. Suposedly the key technical player, recruited by my partner at high cost. Didn't perform and was an activist morale killer. Spent session after session with the guy because we really needed his contribution. Would work out for a few days or weeks but then back to same old. Had to cut the player. Like AD, he ran to the press (Board of Directors) with his tale of woe.

Re: Adalius.

He was expecting the kind of response you get in most franchise cities when if talent and staff clash, the staff more often than not eventually gets shown the door. Some have indimated that AD felt he was in position to facilitate the long anticipated knocking Belichick down a couple of pegs internally and externally, if not off his pedestal altogether. If that's the case AD truly has delusions of grandeur. And he has known all along exactly where he stood with Bill. Even as we didn't because publicly Bill always has their backs, even when they don't deserve it.

If he truly believed that, he is a moron.

In any case, either he or his agent had enough intelligence to know that the Patriots couldn't cut him last year, no matter what he did, and he took advantage of it.
