-LG Mankins for WR Marshall or DT Henderson? It would make us a better team on paper. A lot of high character 2010 draft picks could make such a move less risky.
-LG Mankins for multiple picks? Well, that deal really ends up being money and picks. The Kraft budget ($120 million?) could now allow for an extra quality free agent or quality player in a trade. The pick RB Best and WR Branch on top of all other moves wouldn't be at the end of the world.
-Explain to me the big drop off going to: Vollmer, Light, Koppen, Neal, Kaczur? It isn't that bad.
-Light may have a year or two at left tackle, but may last to Brady's retirement as a left guard. An all-pro left guard who can actually pass protect. Yes, Mankins is great, but Light isn't chopped liver.
A little dramatic in my opinion. I firmly agree with trading Mankins if we can get at least a 2nd rounder for him. Sure Mankins is a Pro Bowler, but he is also going to want to be paid like one. I don't think it is prudent at all to lock up huge money for an interior offensive linemen. We won Superbowls with guys like Andruzzi and Compton at OG. I think with 4 picks in the 2nd and 1 in the 1st, we could find a quality player to groom for LG and pay him a lot less money. As the Pats currently are made up, they have no viable pass rusher and they are very thin at the offensive skill positions. I would much rather take the money that would have gone to Mankins and fill some other holes. I truly believe that OG is one of the easiest positions to fill on a football team, and I don't believe the Pats' success or failure next year hinges on Logan frickin' Mankins. However, if we do not add skill position guys and a couple of pass rushers, it could be a very long season.
Dont get me wrong, I aknowledge he is our best OL but this is his last year as a Patriot. No way to we franchise him next year, I cant see spending precious cap room on a Guard....sorry, I really cant. We are going to need skill positions in '11(Plural-like 3). Light, a team favorite, is capable of playing LG alot better than he can play RT(if you didnt see him on the right side go to the tape-its painful). Vollmer takes LT, Light takes a pay cut, and we max out value on Mankins by trading him on or before the draft. We drafted a G in the 4th that should be a suitable backup this year, and we can draft another in a very deep draft. Just like the Iggles did with McNabb, if you arent going to keep him long term deal him now when he has value....it doesnt hurt that the Lions have talked about needing a guard.....I smell something, smells like Suhy!
The big dropoff is in depth. Nearly every NFL game you see an offensive lineman limping off to the sideline. That's in addition to games linemen are hurt enough that they don't even make the gameday roster. Now take into consideration Neal's recent history, and for that matter Kaczur's too. Now figure in how many times player an NFL o-line are not very effective because they are hurt, but play anyways.-Explain to me the big drop off going to: Vollmer, Light, Koppen, Neal, Kaczur? It isn't that bad.

Unless there is a guaranteed Gene Upshaw in the draft,I would pass
FWIW, I don't have a single LG candidate in this draft rated nearly as highly as I had Mankins in 2005.
Let me get this straight- the Pats can get good O-line talent in the 4th round and later- even in the 6th and 7th, no problem.
The team we trade Mankins to will give us a top 20 pick for him.
Sure- makes sense. :bricks:
FWIW--We have 3 picks in Rd.#2, you may be thinking of last yr
Please read the post first. I said if we trade him for at least a 2nd. That would give us 4 picks in the 2nd, and I would be elated if we could get a 2nd roung pick for Mankins. I don't believe any team should ever break the bank for an interior offensive linemen. I said in my previous post, and I 100% believe it, OG is the easiest position to fill on a football team. I do not believe this team is going to have success or struggle because of Logan Mankins. Like I said before, the Pats won superbowls with guys like Compton and Andruzzi. I have always thought teams that offer big money to gaurds are foolish (Vikings-Hutchinson, Buffalo-Dockery, Dallas-Davis) and I would think no different of the Pats. The Pats do not have a true pass rusher on D, and they are as thin as they have been in years at the offensive skill positions. Save the $$ you would have spent on Mankins and fill these other holes please.

How does Iupati rate? Is he more of a LG or an RG?
How about Pouncey? Can he play a Guard position before sliding over to C in 2011?
