Lombardi: The Jets want Brandon Marshall

Re: Lombardi...The Jets want Brandon Marshall

I'm not talking about Cromartie, nor am I a Jets fan. This post was simply in reguards to Marshall, and the difference he would make.

You're talking about the Jets and adding Marshall to the team chemistry.

Re: Lombardi...The Jets want Brandon Marshall

Come back just before the season starts and you'll likely find takers on that. But unless you are getting good odds, betting right now on how the teams will look 5 months from now makes little sense.

But... likely you will just fade into the woordwork by then... it's happened many times before.

But I *do* agree that judging Sanchez by last season is a trap... both for and against. How much he improves this offseason through study and experience will determine how successful his career is. And we won't know that until midseason.

I agree that there is still plenty of time left for moves to be made, but unless we get another playmaker at the WR position, a RB who isn't over 30 and doesn't fumble repeatedly at the goal line along with spending most of the season injured, and a GD pass rush along with some players on D that can tackle, we are in trouble.

Complacency gets you no where in this league, and aside from signing our own FA's that is what we have become while teams like the Jets are loading up, or at least attempting to load up.

I'm not going anywhere. How could I possibly pass up the opportunity to laugh at all those people who trashed Marshall when he lights our ***** up twice this year? I'll hold off for now, but if this off season continues as it has up to this point the betting window will be wide open.

Who knows if the deal even goes down. I'm just saying if it does, and things play out the way I believe they will. We'll talk about it then.

Re: Lombardi...The Jets want Brandon Marshall

What "package of players" could they put together for Marshall? McDaniels has a bit more intelligence than Ratgini, so I can't see a package like the one they put together for Braylon Edwards working. . . .

It only remotely makes sense if Edwards IS part of the package. Josh will be skewered by the fans and media if he lets another marqui player "slip away," but if he gets a Braylon Edwards (plus more) back he'll be hailed as a genius. I could be wrong, but it seems like the Jets thought that Braylon was underwhelming last year to say the least.

The Jets and every other team in the NFL thought the same thing.

Re: Lombardi...The Jets want Brandon Marshall

I don't think you'll be saying that after he leads them to the division title.

I will also take that bet...Sanchez sucks, doesnt matter who he is throwing too.

It's called the offseason trophy. The Jets and Redskins are perennial contenders. Sign a lot of big names, stats and flash being more important than character and just dazzle the pundits between January and July.

My sig is an actual sign in our facility and the way I think it should be done.

Re: Lombardi...The Jets want Brandon Marshall

And Edwards, who is tendered as a RFA, will just love being marginalized yet again. Unlike two mature individuals who might push each other, these two would antagonize each other by their very existence.
.

That is why I would prefer it if the Jet signed T.O. but Marshall might also do the trick if they have to trade a lot of draft picks for him.

Re: Lombardi...The Jets want Brandon Marshall

I want everyone hear to know one thing. Major league sports are just like any highschool sport with the guys, this ISN'T madden!

If they get Brandon Marshall, their lockeroom is going to be out of control with him, Cromartie, part that with the loudmouth Jets defense and Rex, idk if they can control it.

On the pats side, our team chemistry has increased ALOT. Vince Wilfork is happy and ready to lead with his new contract, and all the faces are back except Watson, which teammates like the same guys in the lockeroom. Once AD is gone, this team could have the highest chemistry in awhile.

Team chemistry is just as important as the talent on the field. Sure, we haven't signed anyone important yet. But the lockeroom is in great shape and the continuity on defense is huge.
-------------------------------------------
Let them get Marshall, Sanchez+Marshall will be a trainwreck.

Re: Lombardi...The Jets want Brandon Marshall

I hope a trade goes through. That means the Jets will ask Sanchez to air it out. As we saw last year, when they ask Sanchez to air it our his favorite receiver is.... The CB from the opposing team.

Did Ryan and Schottenheimer forget that the only reason they went deep into the playoffs is because they changed their offensive strategy and they took the ball out of Sanchez's hands and allowed them to pick and choose when he threw it with a heavy dose of running. Sanchez was effective because teams stopped pressuring him because they were so concerned about the run. He has yet to show that he can carry the Jets offense (hence why he has a 2-8 record when he throws 20 times or more in a game).

Re: Lombardi...The Jets want Brandon Marshall

BTW, with the final four rule, can the Jets even do this? Yes, they can work out a trade with the Broncos, but can they give Marshall a long term deal that he is looking for?

Re: Lombardi...The Jets want Brandon Marshall

Maybe they'll offer Gholston, Jenkins, and or Cotchery and a late pick. They can offer quality players that really won't hurt their team.

The JETS don't have any quality players whose loss won't really hurt their team. That's the whole dynamic that was in place this season. They had just enough quality players to field starters on both sides of the ball. Didn't pan out to be enough. Had they suffered additional injuries beyond Jenkins, they'd have been toast. Nobody wants their aging starters or their insufficient WR's or their monumental draft bust (besides maybe Ratgini but he's now out of the player personnel and decision making loops in Cleveland...).

This is classic WEEI Red Sox lets package and trade our slouches and disappointments and questionmarks for someone elses #1... You will find a small, select group of knuckleheads to join your foolish exercise here though for sure...LOL

Re: Lombardi...The Jets want Brandon Marshall

Revis or Harris will do. Make the trade today Broncos.

Re: Lombardi...The Jets want Brandon Marshall

I can't get over some of the homerism. How does adding Marshall not make them exceptionally better? Regardless of his off field stuff that everyone points to, he has produced at a high level every year. He had a Pro Bowl season with Kyle Orton. Sanchez has much more potential than Orton, and Sanchez will improve from last season. With that o-line and running game, it makes it easier on Sanchez to throw, especially with play action.

There is nothing wrong in the locker room with that defense. All of those guys love playing for Rex and love to talk because Rex evokes confidence, and they all follow suit. Revis and Cromartie are perfect CB's for that type of defense. Jenkins coming back is also a boost. Even if he's not the same player he once was, he's still big enough to just occupy blockers and stop the run like Wilfork.

Either way, we have a lot of work to do.

I suspect watching the fan reaction if the JEST traded Revis for Marshall would be high comedy.

Re: Lombardi...The Jets want Brandon Marshall

I really hope that Marshall doesn't go there. But, say he does. The Jets would probably have to give up a guy like David Harris to get him. And while they would be improving one aspect of their team they'd be weakening their strength (defense). Plus, the Jets are a very top heavy team. They have no strong middle class to back up their superstars, thus magnifying Harris' departure. But again, this is all talk at this point. My money is still on Seattle landing him somehow.

Those aren't quality players other than Jenkins if his rehab is going well. Gholston is a bust, Cotchery = jag. Those two are about equal to us saying Thomas and Patten are quality players.

Rob0729 nailed it by showing Sanchez go 2-8 when throwing the ball 20+ times.

With Marshall, Edwards, Cotchery, and Keller at TE, there pretty much telling him to operate a Patriots/Colts type of offense.

Sanchez will fail at that.

Re: Lombardi...The Jets want Brandon Marshall

The thing that bothers me with the speculated trade is every team and the NFL can have Marshall this season for their first rounder. Everyone is banging on the Jets right now but in reality if he turns out to be superstar put them over the top and there will be a lot of sour grapes.

The same could be said for us when we gambled {stole} on players like Moss,Dillon Welker etc. Every team had a chance to grab Moss but didn't pull the trigger and he turned out just fine, a few minor bumps here and there but we certainly got our value out of him in the long run.

Is this going to be same type of scenario for the Jets? To me Marshall is more of a gamble because of his checkered past and just seems not to be able to keep himself out of trouble every couple of months. But there is no denying hhis talent. He is one of the best wr's in this league and I don't like the possibility of him going to one of our hated rivals.

How are the JETS loading up if they have to trade assets to acquire Marshall?? And how are they loading up when they trade one failed experiment at RCB for someone elses?? And how are they loading up when they let a 1400 yard RB walk while they are playing footsies with a washed up shell of an egotistical former HOF media darling who taps out and cries behind his visor when things don't go his way...

And Sanchise can study film 'til the cows come home, though I don't expect he really will, and that may not offset all the film 12 DC's have now compiled to study on him courtesy of the Colts, Bolts and those Dolts in Cincy... Sophomore slumps don't just come from lack of effort or development from a QB's rookie season to his second. They come from the league catching up with the players developing tendancies based on 16 or 19 weeks of film...What seperates the one year wonders (or in this case hyped up stretch run wonder) from the real deals is the ability to adjust to the adjustments thereafter.
