I guess Bill is going to coach them up...

Ah, looks like I've stumbled upon yet another Chicken Little ***********.

Because we haven't had enough of these lately.
Pretty much standard for this time of year.

What's being Chicken Little about Bill having to coach up essentially the same team?

assuming in March that it's going to be the same team in August.

You mean aside from the sheer and self-evident inanity of, only a week into FA, assuming he'll be coaching "essentially the same team?"

of course your input completes the picture

You mean the guy standing in the corner pointing and laughing is a necessary component of the Chicken Little ***********?

I'll have to defer to your expertise on this one, I guess.

Let's take a look at our starting lineup next year:

QB: Brady
RB: Maroney
WR: Moss, Welker/Edelman/Tate
OL: Light, Mankins, Koppen, Neal, Vollmer
TE: Some guy who'll block

DL: Warren, Wilfork, Wright
OLB: TBC, Guyton, Mayo, ?
CB: Bodden, Wilhite/Butler
S: Merriweather, Sanders/Chung/McGowan

Where else do see a new starter? Who else can we pickup in FA now that you realistically feel can be a starter for us? Besides OLB and TE, I see BB going into next season with these guys as his starters.

facing the corner and laughing is nothing you should be proud of

I'd like to bring in Andra Davis and Josh Reed, for starters.

Plus there's always the fact that there will be a glut of new FA's after the June cuts.

Agreed on Reed and Davis.

Historically, as teams get a better handle on the cap and with it's number increasing, less and less teams have cut quality talent on June 1. It may be a little bit different this year but I tend to think not b/c there won't be a cap.

Yeah, it would be nice to bring those guys in, but even if we do, who do you see Josh Reed starting over? Same with Davis?

If Welker is placed on the PUP list, I see Edelman starting at slot. And I'll give Tate a nod over Reed opposite Moss (simply based on the fact that Tate has had a year to learn the playbook).

And although Guyton struggled last year, I see BB giving him all the opportunity to start next to Mayo.

We'll bring some players in from now until the start of the season, but realistically our starting lineup, except for a few spots, is set.

Moss
Welker (upon return)
Edelman
Tate
Light
Mankins
Koppen
Neal
Vollmer
Maroney/Morris/Taylor/Faulk

10 of the 11 spots on offense are on course to be identical to last year.

Warren
Wilfork
Wright
Mayo
Guyton
Bodden
Springs/Butler
Sanders/McGowan/Chung
Meriweather
TBC

10 of the 11 spots on defense are on course to be almost identical (Green is missing and he split time with Wright) to last year.

The jobs that look to be currently open are:

RB
TE1
TE2
RDE
OLB
WR3
P

That's it. You could toss in ILB, which I've been stating, but I'm assured by other posters that Guyton is a lock for his spot, as is TBC on the outside. So, when a team only has 2 positional openings, and only has competition at 6 positions, plus punter, it's a pretty fair claim to say that the difference is going to be "coaching them up" and "essentially the same team", isn't it?

Will there be June cuts this year? I thought with no salary cap that it didn't make a difference when the player is cut.

Of the two ILB's I thought it was Mayo who struggled last season. I don't think he fully recovered from his knee injury. I think we will see the Rookie of the Year Mayo again if fully healthy.

I think they both struggled but at least with Mayo, there was an excuse with his injury. Guyton stayed relatively healthy (as far as I know) and I thought he really struggled against the run especially towards the end of the year.

That being said, I think these guys will be our ILBs for the next couple of years. Unless McKenzie really shows the coaches something or we draft a rookie that outplays Guyton (which is a possibility).

A part of me wouldn't be surprised if BB doesn't use one of our first four picks on a potential OLB. I'm cringing at the thought of Burgess as one of our starting OLB, but I really see a possibility of that happening with the way Burgess started playing better at the end of the season and how highly BB talked about him.

Sorry, I meant for starters as in the first FA's I would bring aboard. Not that they would be starting at their respective positions.

Andra might start over Guyton at ILB, but I'd expect it to be a platoon with Davis in on running downs and Guyton in on passing downs. I'm actually pretty bullish on Guyton, though, so it wouldn't bother me if he were the starter, either.
