The Patriots have won the AFC championship once every four years for the last 25 years.

Yes, for a quarter of a century, the Patriots have dominated the league.

Once every four years.

In the last 25 years, only the NY Giants come close to winning as many conference championships as the Patriots. The Giants have won four.

If you think about where this team was in 1982-1983 with Ron Erhardt, you would not have believed that you'd get to watch the Patriots in the Super Bowl one out of every four years.

We've experienced more Super Bowls than anyone else. We have WON as many Super Bowls as anyone else.

Given the dismal state of Patriots fandom (lots of moaning and groaning all over the place) you would not think that this team has had more NFL success over much of our lifetimes--LIFETIMES!!!!!!

No no no no no no no. Don't give me any of this perspective nonsense! We're nearly ten hours into free agency without signing anyone and the Jets have traded for a potentially decent player with on and off-field issues who no-one else wanted.... WE'RE DOOMED.

Great post. I'll go a little more in-depth to support your great points.

Since the start of the 1985 season (25 total seasons), the Pats have:

-made the playoffs 13 times

-won the AFC East 10 times

-won 20 playoff games

-reached the AFC Championship Game 7 times

-won 6 AFC Championships/reached 6 Super Bowls

-won 3 Super Bowls

-had an undefeated regular season that included the highest scoring offense of all time

-had 17 winning seasons (and one .500 season)

Pretty damn good I must say. Take out that really bad chunk of years from 1989-1993 and it's even more impressive.

On the flip side they have a HC and owner that refuse to make the sort of FA moves I make on Madden every day.

I think that makes it a wash

Cool story bro. The redsox won two world championships in the past 6 years, you're telling me that they went out and signed Lackey for fun or because they knew that other teams in their division were getting better and that they needed to keep up with them. You are complacent because we got to see a few world championships but honestly Im a greedy SOB and I know that my team can do better than a one and done trashing at the hands of Baltimore in our house.

One question: how old are you?

From one who observed, suffered through years of mediocrity and incompetence, am very pleased with is going on right now..

Just because BB did not go out for a glass of wine with Julius Peppers last night, does not mean all that much.. wait for a finished product before folks judge..

lol, almost all of those accomplishments came in the last 10 years.

The Patriots haven't dominated for 25 years. Give me a break.

I don't think anybody cares what moves you make on Madden. I can get my starting lineup on offense and defense stocked entirely with all-pros by season 2 of the franchise mode. It has NOTHING to do with real football.

So find me a team with better stats in the last 25, then. What one team has done better than the others over the last 25 years?

...18. One question, are you happy with the results from last season?
Compared to 1-15 or 2-14 seasons? Pretty much. Do you not see the rebuilding going on? (Don't trust the old farts, but be prepared to be more or less okay with what's happening when you look back in twenty years. )

YES.

I AM.

Why?

Because I'm older than you are and know what true despair is.

I'm not only a Patriots fan, but a Red Sox fan and UConn basketball fan. I used to drive up from Conn. in the late 70s and 80s and sit in frigid Schaefer Stadium. I went to UConn Husky games when it was a mind-bogglingly bad show, and I rooted my little heart out for them. I was living in Boston in 1986 and I well understood that the heart of every Bostonian had just been ripped from their chests. Things can get VERY bad, and guess what, THEY WILL!!

Back in 1984, if someone would have told me that in 2004, the Patriots, Sox and UConn Huskies would all win a national championship in the same year, I would have said they were nuts.

OK, someone else must have been the best of the last 25 years then.

Who?

As someone that's been a fan since 70's, we haven't dominated except for 00's, but have been to a Super Bowl in 80's and 90's. Our teams have been more good then bad over last 25 years. Many fans came to team after 01 win and are spoiled. We have had some great players and some great teams.

Perspective, or cop out? This really will make me feel jolly inside if we don't land any FAs.

It's definitely perspective.

I would never write any of the braindead panicky posts I read constantly on here, and it's probably not because I'm the wisest or smartest poster here. It's because I know what 2-14 is. And I'll be a Patriot fan still when they go 2-14. I'd be willing to bet that lots of the complainers will not be.

Even going back to 76, we have 16 playoff appearences in 34 years. There are only a handful of teams that can say that

Ben Dreith IS a massive hemorhoid. Even after three championships, he's still a painful burning itch that won't go away.
