OT: Steve Young comment

Tom Brady
Peyton Manning
Drew Brees

YouTube - Saints' Run To The Super Bowl (watch)

Steve Young needs to get his head examined about annointing Brees as #3 now.

Don't disagree about #1 and #2

I would even say over the past decade plus
- Big Ben is ahead of Brees (fewer years in NFL than Brees but 2 SB's)
- Lord Favre(as much as we hate him)....has SB + been to another
- McNabb has been right up there(eventhough he has no SB to show, not necessarily his fault....but leading a team to 4+ NFCCG in a row is pretty commendable)

If Brees can do it again, then for sure he is right up there.

So the knuckleheads now elevate Brees? So now another Dome QB gets a trophy and he's the best. Funny how Big Ben has two rings, plays outdoors, chucks it for 500 yards when asked to...and noone mentions his name. I hate ESPN

Top Echelon QB's

Brees has always put up solid numbers..... now he has a SB ring

he is deserving in being mentioned in the BIG 3.

Easy.... BREES is very good.... a SB ring and a terrific season put him in the Elite QB echelon.

I think Brees has been under rated over the years. The ring now moves him up a notch.

He has always been up there, and he's only been playing in a dome for 4 years. His SD numbers were respectable.

Ben was excellent in his second Super Bowl, but not so hot in other postseason play.

So, he's not there yet. The Saints rely a lot on Brees, and I'm not so convinced that, say, Carson Palmer couldn't do any equally credible job on the Steelers. I do think Ben is better than Carson and certinly one of the best 5 or 6 QBs in the league, but I think I'd take Brees over him. It's just that Ben practically lost his team the game in that first win over the Seahawks.

Brees has been consistient in putting up outstanding numbers. Dome or no dome. He always deserved to be in the conversation of being one of the top 5-10 QBs in the game.

IMO his performance on the biggest of stages puts him up in the top-5 conversation.

Thats about right. Now can I convince you that Aaron Rodgers deserves to be in that conversation too?

Big Ben over Brees is the type of fodder that brings out the "Trent Dilfer must be better than Dan Marino" arguments.

Brees has more TDs in his one Super Bowl (2) than Big Ben has in both (1). Ben had a QB rating of 17 in his first Super Bowl, and basically had one good drive in the second. Brees is much, much better than Roethlisberger. In this case, the argument "teams win championships, not individuals" applies greater than ever. I think Roethlisberger is the most overrated QB in NFL history; he takes tons of sacks by trying to scramble; he's had the best defense every year; he has lots of skills players around him. Still, his production is not that great... those teams would be scoring 450 points with good QBs. With Big Ben they are always an average offense with a great defense.

Love Aaron Rodgers. Hes put together outstanding back-to-back years. They just need to continue to add defensive talent. Pack are on a good path.

The high sack count last year is curious though. Hes still learning....

There is no way in hell Brees is in the top 3 with Brady and Manning. There is no "top 3"...There is a top TWO.

By saying Brees is right there with Brady and Manning, you would be implying that there could be a legit arguement that Brees is possibly the best all time.

Not saying BRady or Manning are the greatest all time, just saying that the argument could be made. Anyone who would try to make that argument about Drew Brees would be absolutely nuts.

So therefore, Drew Brees isn't in the same category as Tom Brady or Peyton Manning.

Peroid.

Agreed. Well put.

all that was said is that he's number 3 on the list or definately in the top 5. No-one said he is as good as or better than either Brady or Manning.

Drew Brees certainly stands out at the moment and I truly believe he is a great QB. The only question that I had regarding him was whether he was clutch, he answered that question this postseason.

His superbowl performance was nothing short of stunning.

Other QBs mentioned are not in the same class. Roethlisberger is clutch for sure but he lacks consistency.
Rogers holds onto the ball to long and takes too many sacks because of it. This guy could be great but he still has to prove himself in a lot of ways including in postseason play. I don't think he will have a long career though unless he learns to get rid of the ball more.

Imo Brees is part of the elite which includes just himself Brady and Manning.

Are you Vanilla Ice reincarnated? Cuz you sure sound like you have a permanent brain freeze.

Career QB Rating of Ben = 91.7, Brees = 91.9.

Comparing him to Trent Dilfer you show you complete ignorance for the game of football.

and oh BTW, Brees has played for two teams that have been completely loaded with talent, including the BEST RB of the Decade in SD - Mr Class Act LT, and now NO he has great Offensive supporting cast the last couple of years.

Ben has had what at WR ?????? Name the Steelers WR since 2005 after Santonio Holmes or Hines Ward ?

Put your objectivity glasses on.

Brees is easily at the elite level now, just watch the guy play week in and week out. He spreads the ball around, puts up great numbers, and has a ring. Roethlisberger is in no way superior to Brees.

Using a garbage stat like QB rating isn't a good way to buttress your argument...

Big Ben has put up excellent numbers on teams that have historically emphisized a ball-control, defense-oriented philosophy to winning games. That is not his fault.

The man has 2 SB rings and showed his mettle in the final drive vs the Cards.

Hes not in a Brady or Manning class, but the guy wins and leads the team. He and Brees are pretty darn close. I may give a slight edge to Brees as a better passer but he also has 4 more years of experience. Keep in mind Ben is only 27. Lots of years left.

I've been hearing rumblings all over the place that Drew Brees deserves to be talked about as being in the same tier as QBs as Brady and Manning, and the thought is absolutely ******ed.
