CBS columnist: Polian belongs in HOF

Carolina and Jacksonville got significantly better advantages when they started than Tampa and Seattle did, because the league didn't want to see another team go 0-26. However when both teams reached the conference championship games in just their second year, a lot of the owners complained they got too much help; thus the "new" Browns and the Texans got a more balanced set-up when they got started.

Who wouldn't want Polian to become the Pats' personnel man? I hate him as much as the next guy, but you can't deny what he's done with the Colts.

Exactly. People here tend to let their hate blind them but I honestly believe Polian has been just as good as BB/Pioli at gathering talent. Not a knock on us at all, more like respect for the opposition.

So it's good etiquette in your eyes to come in here and call everyone homers (that's not really an insult either. We're all fans and as such, we support our team. No shame in that) with your first post?

You must be a tough guy to interview for a job. Let's say you wanted to get a job as a garbage man. Would you walk into the place and say loudly "Wow, why do all you people smell like garbage?!". No, you wouldn't, would you?

I have no problem with what you're saying because unfortunately, its been true like you said right now.

Not even right now, go back the past 5 years and it still rings true. As agonizing as it is to say and accept but it is. The only thing we can hope is maybe this can light a fire under BB and we can see and off season like 2007. And please god don't trade the draft picks and move to the second round.

Right now as in today being your key evaluator... How did the Colts do in 2008, or 2007, or 2005. We were exponentially better in 2003-04 that they were in 2005-06. We were as of today as good as they were in 2007-08, and we did that with a HS QB at the helm in one of those seasons...

Honestly, talk about living in the moment with no regard to the past or the future. That is what this spoiled fan base has become, absolute frontrunners.

Polian is not a slam dunk HOF'er for the simple reason he has been a personnel man only. No one has ever been elected to the HOF on that basis to date...Many great coaches are in the HOF, some of whom were also franchise architects... Several GM's are in who were also HC's. Again, in part, because it is the pro football HOF, not the NFL player personnel selection HOF.
