Julius Peppers sucks. Just say "what was I thinking?" and move on.

I think getting Dunlap at 22 is a pipe dream, one I hope that comes true.

Right now, about half of mocks that I see have Dunlap coming off the board at 19 or later, FWIW. Consider some of these:

- Walter Football: 24
- Matt Maguire, Walter Football: 21
- Nolan Nawrocki, PFW: 24
- QI Sports: 29
- Scott Wright, NFLdraftcountdown: 19
- Robert Davis, Football's Future: 24
- NFLdraftdog: 29

The other half have Dunlap coming off earlier, including:

- Robby Esch, Huddle Report: 11
- Drew Boylhart, Huddle Report: 7
- Rob Rang, NFLdraftscout: 8
- Chad Reuter, NFLdraftscout: 8
- Mel Kiper, ESPN: 15
- TFYdraft: 8
- Don Banks, CNNSI: 6
- GBNreport: 7
- Michael Abramowaitz, The Football Expert: 14
- Bucky Brooks, NFL.com: 6

I think the odds are that Dunlap moves up after the combine and goes top 15, but you never know.

Yeah I think its pray for stupidity from the teams drafting in front of us. To me he is the one player in the draft that gives us everything we are looking for in an OLB. I know its bad business to get too attached to one player but it appears the kid is a rare bird.

Hey nobody thought Wilfork was going to fall to us when he did. I actually had us trading up to get him (one of only two times I got a BB pick correct, other time-Meriweather; maybe I should just keep guessing guys from the U)

Anything can happen, but at this point there are about a dozen players that I think have a very high likelihood of going before Dunlap:

- DT Ndamukong Suh
- DT Gerald McCoy
- DT Brian Price - I think he will rise quickly
- QB Casey Clausen - teams reach for QBs
- QB Sam Bradford - see above
- OT Russull Okung
- At least one (and possibly 2) other OT's out of Anthony Davis, Bruce Campbell and Brian Bulaga
- S Eric Berry
- CB Joe Haden
- DE Derrick Morgan
- ILB Rolando McClain
- WR Dez Bryant

At that point, there are another dozen or so players that I think could go anywhere from 13-24:

- DE Carlos Dunlap
- DE Jason Pierre-Paul
- DE Everson Griffen
- DE Brandon Graham
- DT Dan Williams
- The other 1-2 remaining OTs
- S Earl Thomas
- RB CJ Spiller
- OG Mike Iupati
- TE Jermaine Gresham
- S Taylor Mays (I still think someone will be stupid and take him top 25 based on his measurables)

That works out to roughly 2 QBs, 1 RB, 1 WR, 1 TE, 5 OLs, 4 DTs, 5 DEs, 1 LB, 3 Ss and 1 CB in the top 24 picks. Plus there's always a chance that one of the WRs (Damien Williams, Rejus Benn, Golden Tate or Demaryius Williams) or CBs (Donovan Warren or Kyle Wright, most likely) or a RB like Jahvid Best or Jonathan Dwyer could move into the top 25, or someone like Sergio Kindle, Jerry Hughes, Brandon Spikes or Chad Jones. A couple of kids like Kindle or Jones will post phenomenal numbers at the combine and shoot up boards.

Stupidity is our friend. Every year someone reaches for a Justin Harrell at 16, a Darius Heyward-Bey at 7, or an Aaron Maybin at 11. Hopefully it will happen at least once this year before we pick.

Out of the 21 teams that draft ahead of us. I made a short list of 4 teams that could be a possible home for Carlos.
Jax
Miami
Atl
Tenn.
and then a 5th SF.
If anyone wants to make the case why 1 of these 5 won't pick him, have at it. I would be interested to hear how people feel he stacks up need wise with these teams.

Miami has a huge number of needs, at WR, ILB, OLB, and NT, among others. They could go in any one of a number of directions. Dunlap is a possibility, but IMHO less so than Rolando McClain, Dez Bryant or Dan Williams. Also, I'm not sure that Parcells puts the same premium on converting DEs to OLBs that BB does, so if he did go OLB I could see him going for someone like Sergio Kindle just as easily as Dunlap.

I don't think Dunlap fits San Francisco at all as an OLB, and he's not a 3-4 DE. They have huge needs in the secondary and at RT.

Jacksonville, Atlanta and Tennessee are all possibilities. They could all use a DE, and could all pick any of Derrick Morgan (if he's still available), Carlos Dunlap, Everson Griffen and Jason Pierre-Paul. Atlanta also has needs at LB and in the secondary, and could go with someone like Sean Weatherspoon at LB or with a CB if they think one is rated high enough. They have no 2nd round pick, so I think they might be amenable to a trade back. Tennessee could certainly go with someone like Dunlap, but they could also go secondary or go DT with someone like Dan Williams to replace the gap that Albert Haynesworth left. I think Jacksonville will probably go DE at #11, the question is which one.

So IMHO he could easily be gone at 22, but it's by no means definite that one of those teams will pick him.

Dunlap's size and speed and the fact that he is a position of the greatest NEED for the Pats would seem to make his drafting a "no brainer", if he fell to #22.

What you have to hope for is that there is a run on both Tackles and QBs ahead of the Pats. What I mean is, once Clausen or Bradford come off the baord, teams are going to begin to manuever and trade-up to grab whoever is left. Ditto for tackles.

I saw a mock the other day that made sense, it had St. Louis trading out of #1 with Seattle for #6 and #36 (which is a steal for Seattle, 3000 to 2200 on the trade value chart) but, it made some sense, Seattle gets SUH, plus they still have pick #14 from Denver and St. Louis drafts Clausen at #6.

You never really know what the draft is going to look like, until free agency is done, and then a trade like this could come and really upset the Apple cart. Look back to 2004, Tes Washington left, the Pats were in serious neeed of a NT, Nobody thought Big Vince would last past pick #15, and he dropped right into the Pats lap, maybe it could happen again with Dunlap.

I had Seattle taking UCLA junior DT Brian Price at #14 in my January 15 mock. I think Price is a half-step behind Suh and McCoy, and will rise to the top 15. They could go QB or OT at #6, take price at 14, and then have #36 still available to address RB or whichever of QB/OT they don't take in the first round. Pete Carroll should know Price pretty well having coached across town at USC and played him 3 times. There are also rumors that Carroll wants Seattle to take Taylor Mays at #14, but that the scouting corps are baulking.

As you say, anything can happen.

I wonder if Carroll would make a run at Lienart????

There are many people in Philly who are praying that Arizona makes Andy Reid an offer for McNabb. If Lord Farvequad retires, there could actually be a bidding war for his services. Leinert to Seattle could then make sense.

I think that Philly would be more than happy to get some draft picks for McNabb and start Kevin Kolb at QB. Philly could trade both McNabb and Vick and really stockpile some picks (which they are known to do).

Totally unrelated, but since it's a Dunlap thread, Dunlap to Philly at #24 is one of the more common mock draft projections, if he lasts that long.

With the 22nd pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots select, denfensive end from the University of Florida Carlos Dunlap

(I feel the more you say something the more likelihood that it will come true)

I don't see Carlos Dunlap being a Bill Belichick type of player. First of all the kid gets drunk the week of the Alabama game and gets a DUI. Its not the Bama game was a big game or anything. It was only the most hyped SEC title game ever with both teams being undefeated and the Natl Title on the line. How can you trust this guy after he does this in college? Does this sound like someone BB would take first round?

I think that is the first reason we don't draft him. The second reason is that he takes plays off and gets by in college on athleticism. That tape from the Tennessee game on Youtube was embarassing. He made no impact in that entire game. Walter football compares this guy to Jamaal Anderson another player who had a mediocre work ethic and was lazy.

I don't see an explosive first step out of Dunlap like Peppers at all. He is also weak at the point of attack and isnt as athletic as hes hyped up to be. He also lacks pass rush moves and hes very inconsistent. I also dont like his intangibles at all and to me he looks lazy at times. Just read what Walter Football thinks about him on his site. This kid looks like Gholston 2.0.

Why take a chance on Dunlap when we could take Brandon Graham as an OLB. This kid is Woodley 2.0. He is excellent vs the run. He can anchor and set the edge and hes very strong at the point of attack. He dominated for two full years in college and led the country in TFL Senior year. He is relentless rushing the passer and he uses his hands very well. AT 263 pounds he definitely has the size to play OLB in our scheme. He isn't a workout warrior and I bet he doesnt have a good forty like Woodley. The guy is just a football player. Line him up as the elephant and he becomes a beast. Todd Mcshay said hes a BB kind of player. Hes an extremly hard worker as well.

The only question mark with him is can he drop into coverage?

We better not pass on him because hes 6-1. Height doesnt mean anything! You can't measure heart and work ethic. The kid is a player who has produced at the highest level and had a great senior bowl week. I hope BB learned from his mistake in 07 when he passed on Woodley twice! DRAFT BRANDON GRAHAM AT 22!
